Isn’t Goligoski retired?

The list has a couple retired players, but as @boats mentioned they used chat gpt.

Keep your stick on the ice...

Wild sign a top prospect.

I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey

Hopefully he turns out to be part of the solution at center like they expect.

Guerin just doesn’t GET IT…young #1 draft pick players like Ohgren won’t get better without NHL playing time! You need to give them chances to succeed when they’re young or U squander their potential! ☝️

I am starting to hate this team so much, especially this GM.  I probably need to take the next couple of seasons off.

In a few weeks we can read about the additional signings of other mid-30s to late 30s forwards, to multiple year deals who bring GRIT to this team.  Brock Nelson, Claude Giroux, Jamie Benn...  I want none of those guys, but I am sure Guerin is salivating about tying up a bunch of cap space to those players.  The only tough part being none of them played for Pittsburgh...

We can talk all we want about how good our depth is, but none of it matters when there are zero roster spots for them to fill.

We have the third oldest roster in the NHL.  Behind the Oilers and Penguins.  Behind us are the Maple Leafs, Hurricanes, Golden Knights, and Jets.  Other than the Penguins, who won a few cups a couple years ago, the rest of those teams all MADE IT PAST THE FIRST ROUND!!!!

But hey, lets re-sign everyone and run it back.  What could possibly go wrong.

Let's make sure we bench Buium for Bogosian/Merril.  Stick Rossi on the 4th line so Johannson and Gaudreau can get way more ice time with all their goal production.

I would assume Rossi is gone. If I were him I would respectively ask for a trade if they haven't already told him that is the plan after the stunt the Wild pulled in the playoffs with him.

If they trade a 60 point player, they better get a bigger, stronger 60 point + player in return…or Billy f’ed up again! !

The Johansson signing would be fine if it was done as a replacement for Shore or Gaunce. I have my doubts if Hynes/Guerin see ot that way though. If the plan is for him to see actual games in the NHL, then it's a failure.

Rossi isn't worth what he is asking for and he isn't likely a 60 point player on a good team. He can't kill penalties and is terrible defensively, so I do believe that trading him is the right move. Not a lot of confidence that Billy gets a decent deal though.

I know it is early but resigning a current player for 1 year they need to sign free agents with talent

We'll see how the rest of the summer shakes out. Re-signing a guy for 1 year at 800k isn't exactly a "you're cemented in the top 6" type deal. He was good down the stretch, but hoping he's more of a fill in when needed vs a lineup staple. If he's a staple, I think that means guys like Ohgren and Yurov proved not to be ready yet. If they are, I don't see how he sees a regular shift and it's more of a depth move.

Can't you say the same things about several of the Forwards?

We didn't have a single center above 50% on draws this season, and Gaudreau, a PK guy, lost a lot of PK faceoffs.  We had a big problem with going on the PK, immediately losing the D-zone draw, and less than 10 seconds later it was in the back of the net.

Johansson is terrible offensively and not much better defensively.

Trenin, a PK specialist signing for 4 years, did nothing to help the PK, is marginal defensively, and provides no offensive value.

Was Brazeau good defensively or something?

Sorry, not necessarily arguing with you.  And I wouldn't want to resign Rossi to more than a 2 year "prove-it" deal at most.  Just frustrating that he scored some goals and we immediately let him go.  We only seem to re-sign, and sign, guys who can't score goals.  Since its inception, this team has had a problem scoring goals, and this GM doesn't value goals either it seems.

@gopherhockeyfan7

Then why bother re-signing him at all?  Are you worried about the lack of bottom 6 forwards being available during the Free Agency period?  Is that proven to be a problem in the past?  Wait until the end of July, and you can pick up a veteran Forward #13 for League minimum.  I don't understand this resigning at all, other than Guerin in a rush, once again, to do something he doesn't need to do.  Did he have a "gentleman's handshake" like with Goligoski?  Is he "good for the room"?

It isn't like this signing itself is going to make or break the season, but it makes no sense and just continues to follow Guerin's trend of players he signs to contracts.

They played a deep and skilled Vegas roster to one win and three OT losses, so it's not like they aren't close.

They play a system hockey that I would agree Rossi is a bad fit. If he can't adapt to the system the Wild needs to win, he shouldn't be resigned. It would be better to use that money on another Ek type player. A couple of players I like to gripe aren't worth the money are Foligno and especially Spurgeon. Brodin might be expendable, too, if Buium takes off.

They have a few guys who are getting long in the tooth, and they'll need to address this, but they also have a decent core of good young talent. If management can make the right moves (I know, IF), they have a chance to build something good.

If Rossi didn't "fit in" what was Gaudreau exactly besides a below replacement level value?

Someone else would have if you waited that long. Instead of Shore/Gaunce/Boyd etc, we might have guys like Johansson coming in/out of the lineup. That's an upgrade IMO.

I just think this signing is really nothing in the grand scheme of things. Good depth, but the summer will be graded elsewhere.

Like the deal. Cheap and an easily tradeable asset later on an expiring contract If it comes to it

now if you’re slotting him as an every night third liner all year and playing pp2 minutes or something, then yes this is a problem. But if he’s a third/fourth liner mixed with healthy scratch, then it’s a good veteran guy who’s a trade deadline asset

I think you can say the same thing about most of their roster. I also think that they would be in better shape if a handful of those guys didn't have contracts right now.

Rossi is the discussion because he doesn't have a contract and he's at the point where Guerin has to make a critical decision on him.  It's hard to have an opinion on Rossi without knowing how much he wants or knowing what you could get for him in trade.  I will say that I don't know if I would be comfortable giving him a long term deal at any reasonable price.

i don't know if I would call Vegas skilled, but I agree that there's a path where the Wild can become a very good team this summer.

I really don't see how they can come back with both Brodin and Spurgeon, and be taken seriously as a team trying to win. But it doesn't sound like they have any plans for the defense.

another angle on the Johansson signing that might help explain why Guerin would do it so early. Maybe Guerin has a trade lined up for an actual top 6 center and it's going to cost him 2-3 of his current forward group.

As long as it's a no-trade and not a no-movement, it doesn't really matter.

Are we happy that the Wild dodged a 3 yr at $7.5 AAV deal on Brock?

https://twitter.com/RussoHockey/status/1930288469718278619

Not sure how they'll spend the money, but that's a lot for a 33-yr-old middle six center.

I’d like what he’d bring, but not for that price. So overall, yeah I think they dodged a bullet.

He would be the best center on the Wild.  Everyone is going to be overpaid in the next few years, because every team has money to spend. I would rather overpay good players by $1-2M instead of the bottom of the lineup guys by $1-2M like Guerin has.

The good part about this is it's going to force Guerin’s hand in making an impactful trade. Pettersson from Vancouver is who I am hoping for.

This kind of thinking is why I appreciate the Johansson contract. The bottom of the lineup should be made up of vets on 1 or 2-year deals and young players on team controlled contracts if you can do it.

https://puckpedia.com/team/minnesota-wild

The Trenin contract is the biggest head scratcher of the bunch, $3.5M and four years of term is a lot to pay for someone that's hard to play against when you have cap issues like the Wild.

I do wonder if they can move Rossi and/or one of their D like Spurgeon or Brodin to imporve their scoring.

Johansson's contract can't hurt the team. Playing Johansson every night certainly can.

Trenin is a good 4th line player who brings a lot of things that the Wild don't have.  That being said, he's overpaid by at least $1M.

My pipe dream for this summer is Rossi, Spurgeon, and another smaller piece for Elias Pettersson.

The raw dollar amount makes no difference. Everything, value wise, should be tied strictly to a percentage of the cap, which is going up quickly in the next few years.  This is why Kaprizov, Marner etc. signed for 3-5 years on their previous deals.  Their agents and the teams knew the cap would be rising significantly, once the player owed escrow from Covid was repaid.  Signing Rossi to a similar deal to Boldy (this is what he is speculated to want) 7x7 would be a pretty average percentage in a few years. The price will never go lower for good players.  I can't comment on how the organization feels about him, but clearly Guerin has reservations otherwise this deal would have been signed already.

@youngeagle Billy clearly isn’t in luv with a player BILLY CHOOSE 9th overall. Plenty of drafting mistakes by this regime. Where the F is first round pick Carson Lambos too? Got to give young high draft picks a taste of the NHL to see they can play.
