It’s really too bad. Usually a team that excels at 5 on 5 will have the advantage in the postseason. Not this series. Crap is just completely random. I can’t imagine the players know what they can and can’t do at this point.

Special teams are more important. If you have a good PK you can afford to be more physical and if you have a good PP teams are hesitant to be more physical against you.

I don't watch a ton of NHL hockey, and after catching a period here and there of the playoffs I'm reminded why. My dumb opinion, but the NHL just isn't that interesting a brand of hockey.

High level NCAA or good state tourney hockey is so much more enjoyable for me to watch than the pros.

Doh’kay

He didn't say it was better hockey.  Just more enjoyable for him.  If given the choice I'd watch Gopher hockey, but still love the Wild.

I used to agree with this, but college has just become a slower NHL without the skill

I’d rather watch Gopher hockey too but to say that the NHL playoffs isn’t that interesting is ridiculous. The NHL playoffs is the most compelling sporting event in the world.

I don’t blame him for having the opinion, especially this year. It feels like a lot of the entertainment so far is intrigue caused by atrocious game management from the officials.

The Wild didn't lack effort. They had as many/more SOG and scoring chances they just didn't finish as well as Dallas, and Dallas had a bit more luck such as that little dribbler through the pads of Gus.

I think at one point the "breakaway chances" were 8-1 MN.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

What's a breakaway chance?

Bad officiating and underperforming Canadian teams seem to be perpetual.

They just called a tripping penalty on Fiala that might've been even worse than the call on Foligno

The Gophers this year were worth going to every game. Then you have the Mankatos of the world...older teams that win games but boring hockey. Teams with the talent who like to run and gun are really fun to watch.

Fans of the NHL know there are two seasons, and apparently the refs subscribe to this notion as well. Obstruction calls are made with regularity during the season. Not so, come playoff time. It's just so obvious.

Yeah he is from Iowa...which means he is just happy to be out of there!  Plus being able to be in the vicinity of so many people and not worry about being swallowed up inside of their gravity probably helps.

Someday I would love to hear the story how the State of Iowa did you dirty sometime in your life.  I don't think I dislike Iowa State as much as you hate everything about Iowa...and I mean everything; people, places, and probably even road signs!

Every Iowan (and Iowa football fan) I've met that lives here is super nice and level-headed.  But the crew that comes up from Iowa to go to Gopher football games....they are not a group you can say many nice things about (to put it nicely).  Not sure if that is what Handy is being influenced by.

I can see that, but as I've said plenty of times on GPL...every fanbase has their a$$holes.  That's why I get harassed about being a Gopher hockey fan here in Mankato, I get lumped in with those jerks.

Nah...the road signs are fine 😉

I used to actually not mind Iowa all that much as a state.  The only vacation I took most of my childhood was to sunny and tropical Waterloo to hang with my grandparents.   Ah the memories of the great excursions to Hy-Vee (where there is a helpful smile in every aisle!) or if we felt very exotic...the Chucky Cheeze buffet in Cedar Falls!  Man you haven't lived until you hear the dulcet tones of the Rock-afire Explosion in their element!  And the nightly watching of Channel 7 KWWL (IOWAS NEWS CHANNEL!!) certainly never disappointed...

Until I traveled literally anywhere else and realized what a desolate wasteland of corn that place was! ?

My hatred of Iowa is not as bad as I make it out to be.  I know plenty of Iowa fans (including my late Uncle) and have no issues with them.  The state sucks though 😉

But...I would rather go back there than ever go back to NoDak.  So there is that!

I'm not a big city kind of guy so I don't mind Mankato, it is similar to what I used to think what Waterloo/Ames was.

Been a couple since I've been there but I think Cedar Falls has surpassed it as the better of the two cities...not saying much.

i don't think it was the stick that cut him. Most likely his helmet/visor when he hit the boards.

My head in this series has gone from "Finally, the Wild has the look of a team ready to move past the first round" to "Here we go again."

That loss yesterday cannot be understated. They had the home fans behind them but just couldn't break the goaltender. At some point, the hot-goalie excuse doesn't wash. KK and Boldy haven't done enough, and the Wild goaltending corps has been good but not great.

If they lose the next game in Dallas, I'm afraid they'll be golfing the following week.

It appears that they're following last year's script. They played game 3 like their careers depended on it. They played game 4 like a preseason game. The only bright side is that it doesn't appear like DeBoer has figured the Wild out, so Oettinger is the only major problem to deal with

They had easily as many chances to score as Dallas in Game 4 but they whiffed far too often. Game 5 will come down to if they're still mentally up for the challenge. If they are I hope they don't miss as many shots as they did the last game.

That was what I thought too. Would have been a pretty crazy shot to catch the top of the bridge of his nose with a visor on but he hit the boards face first pretty hard. It also didn’t look like his stick made contact with Folignos head.

They just didn’t bury their chances in game 4. Dallas scored on bad calls and we didn’t.

5 on 5 I we’re better. I think we prevail.

I agree that they’re better aside from in net. At some point, Kappy and Boldy need to start scoring though or it won’t matter and they’ll be golfing. Can’t have your stars slump now

This team can beat Dallas.

Can also string multiple wins in a row.

This series is very alive.

I would say the fan anxiety level is about right where it should be. In the background, of course, is the "Minnesota sports curse" phenomenon and the unpleasant fact that the Wild own a long and frustrating history of playoff futility. Yep, I'd say the fan reaction needle is in the yellow right now.

The Wild had a chance to go up big in the series but turned the home-ice advantage back over to Dallas. Of course, fans are going to see that as an opportunity that slipped through their fingers. Why wouldn't they?

The loss on Sunday definitely made this harder for them. Let's hope that the Oettinger they faced on Sunday isn't the guy they see tonight.

I think Minnesota had a chance to win the series in game 4 and they couldn't get it done.  I think game 5 is now Dallas' chance to win the series. We'll see how the Wild respond.

I think that the Wild have been the better team through 4 games, but I don't have much faith in Evason to get it done.

I blame the loss on bringing in 2 members of a franchise that has lost 18 straight playoff games to kick things off.

Who are they going to bring in to do "Let's Play Hockey" on Friday?  Blair Walsh?

We'll see if Deano goes to Fleury one more time. Good grief, I hope that experiment is put to bed.

The Wild is a team built to get up by a goal or two and protect a slim lead. If they get down again by two goals against Oettinger, they're not exactly a roster that scores in bunches. They've done a nice job so far against Benn and Robertson, but those guys are as due as KK and Boldy so we'll see how that plays out.

Tonight would be a nice time for Kaprizov or Boldy to put in a dominant performance. Every once in a while a team needs their stars to take control of a game - this a like one of them.
