Last year they were a .500 team that went 13-4. This year, they're a .500 team that will be lucky to be .500.
We don't know whose fault it was on the bungled snap, but we do know Cousins didn't take care of the football on the second turnover. They have a really tough schedule this year and needed to start 1-0 AT HOME against a Bucs' offense piloted by that elite QB Baker Mayfield.
The defense gave up only 20 points today, but both touchdowns were momentum grabbers. Vikings couldn't score at the end of the first half and was forced to punt, which led to a late Bucs' TD going into the locker room. Then the vaunted purple people eaters promptly gave up another one to start the second half...14 points in a half quarter against a team that struggles on offense.
The table may be set for Detroit.
The bungled snap was punched out of Kirk's hands by RG Ed Ingram.
This. And that one INT was half on Kirk (threw behind receiver) and half on the receiver (he had his hands on the ball, the DB made a great play). I'd be SOMEWHAT surprised if Kirk made it through the season. He got his arse WHUPPED all game, due to poor O Line play.
Kirk made a back shoulder throw because there was a safety waiting to decapitate KJ if the ball was in front of him. It maybe wasn't a great decision to throw to KJ but the CB in coverage on him looked like he was going to play over the top and then undercut instead and took the ball away from KJ after KJ got popped by the safety. Credit the CB on making a great read on the throw and having the body control to change his momentum in a split second and cut underneath.
In the images attached it looks like the CB has outside/over the top leverage when Kirk flips to KJ (his second read). Even when the ball is about halfway to KJ the CB looks like he's playing for the left shoulder. In his next step he plants his left foot and comes underneath on KJ's right shoulder. Kirk probably saw his positioning at the back of his drop and thinks "Oh he's playing over the top off KJ's left shoulder to protect the goalline" which would be great for a back shoulder throw. Corner made a great read and took the ball from KJ because of it.
Edit: the second image the ball was already thrown, it's the blurry thing that looks roughly football shaped by the blue line)
Yeah, so 50/50.
I'm not a Kirk hater, obviously. But, I try to call it as I see it.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Can't wait for another 17 weeks of Kirk Cousins debate season. It is 2nd only to the Bill Guerin debate season. As a non Vikings fan, I think Kirk is an above average QB. I just don't think he has what it takes to put a team on his back and carry them to the Super Bowl. He puts up good stats, but is more of a game manager and who would fit on a great team with a killer defense better than a team who needs him to control the game.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I think this game if anything shows Cousins can carry a team but a QB can only do so much. How many come from behind wins did the Vikings have last year? The most in the league. With a bottom 3 defense and a garbage OL. QBs that can't lead don't do that. I too am tired of the debate and will leave it there.
So next season do the Vikes get another veteran QB or draft a new QB and throw him in for a learning experience?
Aloha!
How costly it can be to line up off sides on a FG attempt.
Vikes
Not playing starters in pre season games was a stupid decision it showed yesterday
Aloha!
No one was saying it was stupid last year to not play starts in the preseason when they whooped Green Bay.
So next season do the Vikes get another veteran QB or draft a new QB and throw him in for a learning experience?
Tank and draft Caleb Williams, very doubtful this could happen, since the Vikes are an above average team. Trade up for the opportunity to draft him.
I don't think the Vikings brass have a vision for the future - they seem to have completely sold out on win now and their piss-poor drafting the past few seasons hasn't helped in stocking the shelves.
So now it's coming out that the Bucs defense figured out the Vikings signals on defense and passed this info along to Mayfield at halftime. The entire second half Tampa Bay knew what coverage we were going to use before the ball even snapped.
Aaron Rodgers would look good in purple next season.
I would laugh my arse off. $50 million for an ego and what prob will be a has-been at that point.

For at least on drive Hockenson is earning his paycheck.

Feels like if this is any QB not named Kirk this is a penalty.
I was saying the same thing and logged on to see if anyone else saw it.

WOW! This Amazon Prime feed makes my YouTubeTV looks like absolute dogsh*t... and that's not really being kind to dogsh*t. I think I need to get rid of the overcompressed garbage of YouTubeTV. I forgot how good a halfway decent signal can look.
i am a hockey official... the "intent to blow rule" is dumb. The touchback for a fumble over the pylon is dumber!!! That rule makes no sense to me.

It's one of the dumbest rules in the football. Anywhere else on the field a fumble out of bounds goes back to the spot of the fumble. But if you fumble it over the pylon you lose possession? Why not just set the ball back to the spot of the fumble? Or even just back to the 20 or something? To lose possession when there's no recovery makes no sense to me.

Agreed. You are penalizing a team for attempting to score. WTF?!?
It would be like in hockey if a team shoots the puck, but it hits the post and goes up into the netting, then they get a 2:00 penalty and the faceoff goes down to the other end. I mean how dare you try to score and just miss.
Josh Sweat runs right past Oli Udoh, in for an injured Darrisaw, and obliterates Kirk for a strip sack recovered by Philly. Two plays later it is 20-7.
What a joke. 4 turnovers & counting…pathetic football.
Kirk might straight up die this season.

I think the rule is bizarre, but every player knows the rule. JJ wasn't taking care of the ball. 1st and goal on the 1 inch line and time to run 4 plays...I like their chances. That mental lapse was a 10-point swing going into the half.
In a game the defense is actually showing up, the offense has coughed up the ball twice, plus another lost ball on special teams.
The O-Line is comically bad.
Yeup. Time to do stuff around the house.
Question. Mattison has 10 yards rushing and a fumble through this first half .
Would you rather have Dalvin or Hockenson on this team?
In today's football? Hockenson.

Hockenson without question.
That's not to say I wouldn't like an upgrade over Mattison but in today's NFL? Yeah it's TJ without question.
Hockenson. Don’t forget that Cook was one of the more turnover happy members of the team. But with this line honestly none of it matters.
The rook! Nice TD there.

Kirk to Addison for a 63 yard TD! Nice adjustment by Addison and great look-off by Kirk to get the deep safety to jump the crossing route.
They are pretty good if they can clean up the turnovers.
4 turnovers, 2 inside the Eagles 40 yardline (one on the goalline) and they're down by 13. This game could easily be a Vikings lead.
Sweatt abuses Udoh again and now Udoh is down on the field.
Update: Udoh being carted off.
3rd string LT for the rest of the game. This couldn't possibly go wrong.
Comeback magic
I don’t think you could possibly be more open than KJ was there. ?
Jefferson just needs to play football and not get caught up in the mental games with players. So what if you were shutdown the last time vs. an opponent or team. When Jefferson starts playing into the mental game, he’s just playing into their hands.
Keep your stick on the ice...
MN making the score look somewhat good.

JJ had 5 Eagles defenders within 5 yards of him and KJ had 0 Eagles within 15 yards of him.
Vikings cut the lead to 6 and the Eagles immediately march down the field and score. 8 plays, 75 yards, almost all of it on the ground.
Eagles have had the ball for almost 40 minutes of this game. That's asking an awful lot for a defense on a short week.
If Cousins was Rodgers tonight, Philly would have 3-5 roughing the passer penalties.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Should have paid Dalvin. Mattison sucks butt.
Mattison fumble. Kirk's fault for throwing to him up the middle. 😉

The JJ fumble at halftime was a 10 point swing. Philly was very beatable tonight but Vikes beat themselves instead. They look like the Lions last year...in every game but finding a way to lose.
Vikings lose 34-28. 4 lost fumbles is the dagger. Who would have guessed turning it over 4 times in one game would cost you the game?
6 point loss on the road against the NFC champs. At least they made it a game.
