He isn't worth either of those contracts...yikes.

I would have been ok with 10/285, although it's still probably about $25mil more than he's worth. But 13 for 350? Yeah no thanks. Especially considering he'll be almost 42 at the end of it.
Now if only they take that money they would have spent on Correa and spend it on pitching. Then we will have something.

Twins ownership just threw up a bit in their mouth.

Anything over 6 years is a waste. He is not Bryce Harper...the back half of that deal he would likely be an albatross.
I am sorry but nothing I saw last year tells me he is a $29 million player. Especially not on a team that purposely keeps the payroll low. You give that money to players that are MVP caliber...he isn't on this team. He would have killed their payroll while simultaneously letting them say "see look we spend money!!!!11" and guys like John Bonnes would have ready made talking points.
Correa used the Twins to drive the price up! The Twins supposedly offered 10 years and $285 million which is nothing to sneeze at! Corrrea talked about how much he wanted to be here, but in the end he was just driving the price up to get more money! He played the Twins!
That's the name of the game.
I figured that was understood the moment he signed a short deal he could opt out of immediately.
And it's not like the Twins didn't know that, too.
Yeah anyone who believed he was staying past a season was deluding themselves...like my Dad.

That's basically the definition of free agency.
Now, the question becomes...
The Twins offered THAT kind of money for A player. Can they do that for an ace pitcher or two? They've allegedly thrown down the offer...so they appear WILLING to do that...
Just sayin'.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
What could the Twins get for 2 pitchers, 5yrs/140MM each? Truthfully.

The top pitcher on the FA market, Carlos Rodon, is probably going to get 6 years, $160 million+.
I saw a report that the Yankees offered 5/125 and apparently Rodon/Boras said that's not enough.

There is a .00000001% chance the Twins make a good offer for a top pitcher. They would rather go with what they have. They made their "attempt" in FA now they will settle for scraps.
Twins have signed Joey Gallo to a 1 year, $11 million dollar contract.
Seems like a good bet that this means they'll be trading Kepler within the next week.
Gallo has ridiculous power and strikes out even more than Sano did. But he has traditionally been very good defensively in the corner outfield spots.
He had an atrocious season last year (hitting .160/.280/.357 in 400ish at bats between NYY and LAD) but has posted an OPS over .800 in 4 of his other 5 seasons since cracking the MLB lineup full time.
Seems like a traditional Twins move to buy low and hope you strike gold with a guy. They still have Wallner, Larnach, Garlick, and Kiriloff as corner outfield options as well (though Kiriloff will also see time at 1B I assume, and I'd guess Wallner starts the year in AAA assuming everyone leaves camp healthy). They also have Nick Gordon who I'd expect to rotate between all three OF spots and probably some in the infield as well.
Joey Gallo for $11 million! You’ve got to be kidding me! They just got rid of one strikeout king & now spent $11 million on another!! Can’t believe that they couldn’t find a better option to spend their money! Like pitching?
This must be the consolation prize for missing out on Correa. Are there any 40 year old pitchers that they can get off the scrap pile??
I’m actually going to take the positive Twins fan view on this one and predict he turns it around and has a great year. Then, he’ll sign a long contract without a big AAV with Boston or San Diego. ?
It's not too late to sign Lew Ford
Nothing to get fans excited about…again.

oh but they feigned an attempt. Shouldn’t that count for something?
I thought with those new jerseys everyone would want to come play for the Twins!
I was hoping by they'd sign Jerry Gallo. Or is it Callow?
This gif both works with the reference just made and all of us when we saw this was their big splash. Classic Twins...
Man if only Sid was alive the spin job we would see over this would be great! TWINS SIGN FORMER YANKEE AND DODGER TO BOLSTER LINEUP!!

julio gallo might be more helpful for the fans at this point.
I guess I haven’t seen the Twins trying to convince anyone this was a big splash, but still. Swanson is still out there, but my hopes aren’t up that’s for certain.
The Twins are in for a long year. There is nothing left on the market, we’ve not upgraded anywhere, and pitching is what it has always been.
Hoping for 75 wins next season.
The Japanese word for "Turtle" is kame 亀.
Know anywhere I can get a jersey? 😉@the-rube America has lost a great treasure. ?
Glad to see he's still playing. That's all he wanted.

Now the Mets have concerns about Correa's long term health.
Maybe the Twins were wise to not offer him 13 years ?♂️
Back issues were known, now there’s concern about his right ankle. Could get interesting.
Back issues were known, now there’s concern about his right ankle. Could get interesting.
Its interesting because the concerns seem to stem from an injury back in 2014 when he was in minor league ball. He was sliding into 3rd base and his spikes got caught on the edge of the base and he fractured his fibula and sustained some ligament damage.
I wonder if the reason teams are raising concerns about it at this point is due to it possibly being degenerative as he gets older? Either that or teams are just realizing that a guy who is already on the larger side for shortstops (at 6'4" and close to 200lbs he's definitely one of the tallest shortstops) may lose mobility sooner than later which would hurt his defense and overall value.

In 1976, new manager Gene Mauch named Campbell as his closer.[1] Campbell rose to the occasion; his 78 appearances led the league, and his record was 17 wins, 5 losses, 20 saves, and a 3.01 ERA.[1] He finished 7th in the voting for that year's Cy Young award, and 8th in the voting for Most Valuable Player.[1]
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Yikes. And it doesn’t appear we’ve had any movement since Dec 17th.The Twins are in for a long year. There is nothing left on the market, we’ve not upgraded anywhere, and pitching is what it has always been.

Well, I hear they still serve beer on MN and we now have an outdoor ballpark. Get your cheap tickets and expensive beer and sit in the outfield for home run balls.

wearing a hat that looks like you cheer for the Miami marlins.
Saw a guy wearing that new M hat at the bar the other night. It looked better than I thought it would after seeing pics of it.

are you under the age of 30? Nobody older should find that palatable. 😉

I agree. It isn’t anything special in my opinion, but it isn’t hideous.

I can't even remember being 30. And I can't say that I loved the new hat. Just that it doesn't look as dumb in person as it did in the photos.

A bad team wearing a bad hat so you can look like you cheer for a different team.
For the record, I still fully expect him to be a Met but the Twins were supposedly dead in the water as of 7pm and then at 11pm they apparently reignited?
Heyman has seemed to be a mouthpiece for Boras throughout all of this, so I’m also not buying there’s any real chance he comes back. There’s a couple pennies left on the table so they’re using the Twins for leverage. Again.

Ha! I first thought this said @Handyman which seemed strange since I can't imagine a long winded hockey board poster being an agent's mouthpiece.......on Twitter where there is a character limit. ?
