My daughter starts HS hockey this year. It's already been a huge change from association hockey (for the better). I like that she has practice at 3:30 every day after school. She's already home and showered by dinnertime. No more 9pm practices at crappy arenas (ahem... Harding). Leaving her gear in the HS locker room at the rink has freed up space at home, and my basement smells better. The team dinners and bonding have been fantastic. On top of everything else, HS is about $1,000 cheaper than 15U association hockey was, and that's even including HS Booster Club fees.
They took a nice coach bus up to Duluth last weekend for 3 scrimmages. First real game is this Saturday. I'm excited for the season.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
In getting caught up with HS hockey a bit, sounds like both boys and girls Tonka teams have taken recruiting and transfers to another level. Go Chanhassen, I guess, as one of few teams that could best stop them.

Discovery on this is going to be delightful
It's only one game, but my most accounts Rogers is supposed to have a pretty solid squad this year and Chan just took them to the woodshed 8-0. Chan also took Tonka to OT so no one should be penciling in a Sec 2 champ just yet.
What has happened to Blaine Hockey
Last year they went 4-23
This year they have started 0-9
They have gone from a powerhouse to an outhouse
I've noticed that too as well. And there really isn't any or many programs to transfer to that have a solid system that I can think of.
Keep your stick on the ice...
I assume Andover has taken a chunk out of Blaine.

Andover is taking Anoka's better players on the Boys and Girls teams.

Former Cardinal here.
Edit: When talking about the boys, anyway. The girls have traditionally been pretty decent.

I have no idea but Blaine players could be going to places like Andover, Rogers, Maple Grove, Centennial...
Whoa.
Thats not real. Note it says they'll move to AA in 2080 "to give the program time to develop as a hockey school and be competitive with other AA schools."
Pretty sure thats a joke..
Moving up in 2080?

Just got an email that due to a scheduling conflict, the Boy's Tourney consolation games are being moved from Mariucci to Aldrich.

Wonder if that means if MN is hosting 1st round Big Ten games we might be seeing some weird times for TV or something. Thats the only conflict I could see being an issue, if the Gophers end up playing at like 5:30 and 3 Friday/Saturday or something like that.
A fellow GPL’ers kid’s game is delayed to the following…

Being an old Zamboni guy this picture kind of inspires me. When my time comes maybe a variation of the viking funeral theme?

😂. My husband has a day sailboat, 26ft. He’s had it for 20 years and it is a money sucking sieve, but it’s his baby. I’ve joked for years that if he goes before me I’m giving him a Viking funeral and setting it on fire. He turns around and reminds me that the wife usually sacrificed herself to Valhalla too.

I drove the Zamboni at the Depot when they had an ice rink.
Then Gary Holmes the CEO of CSM purposely made the rink fail to line his pockets in making it a event center.

What better way to recruit new firefighters?
@gopherguy05 What I have heard from other high school refs is that the Big 10 is "taking control" of the building that weekend and would not allow any other events on the ice to preserve it.
Been a season ticket holder since 2003 and never been to the consolation games at Mariucci. When I had printed tickets, I would hand them off the a losing team fan sometime during Thursday quarterfinals. So I have no clue what kind of attendance really shows up. Do they really need Mariucci, if this is what the BIG is going to start to do if weekend collide. Or is Ridder or Aldrich fine as well. I know the girls use Tria for the consolation, but Tria is way to small at 1,200 for the boys. Plus with Tria being downtown StP, I would expect more AA fans would drop in since they are downtown for something to do and it's apart of their season ticket package.

Ridder could work, but I thought I heard that there was another conflict there as well or else where on campus. Tria is too small for the AA boys, A boys could be ok. Aldrich is not a bad option especially with all the free parking. Last year we decided to go the the A boys semifinals games vs Mariucci. We will be doing that again. So anyone want 6 tickets to Aldrich???Been a season ticket holder since 2003 and never been to the consolation games at Mariucci. Really like Fridays at the Tourney. Get downtown StP, park, hit the Expo briefly, get into the A semi’s after the lines died down, see the games, dart out after for late lunch/early dinner, hit the Expo again in case I missed something the first time and back for the AA games.
I would really like to see A tickets to be sold earlier through out the Tourney and just not walk up for that session. Especially for A semi’s. Big crowds year after year. Lower bowl is always full and they move the fans up to Club and 200.
Keep your stick on the ice...
You can purchase the A semi tickets online. I’ve done it the last handful of years. Beats trying to buy them Thursday night before going into the AA quarters or Friday morning with a huge crowd.
In all the years, didn't know this. Thanks.

I believe the woman's WCHA tourney is at Ridder the same weekend as the HS tourney. Between that and the chance of MN men hosting a series the same weekend The U had to step away from the consolation games.

That would make sense that they decided that there would be just too much traffic/ stress on the ice staffs for the weekend. Guessing with MN not hosting the last few years it hasn't been as bad, but it looks like a very good chance it happens this season.
I vaguely remember there being a few ice issues the last time MN played 1st round games, but that also could have been due to the fact that the temps were weird with only about 1000 people in the damn arena...
