5-5. Augustine tries to clear the puck. Gave it right to Swede player.

USA defense has looked pretty shitty.  Augustine totally misplayed the puck that led to the 5th goal, but the Swede easily got by both Peart and Hughes.  Hughes didn't even start to turn until after the Swede was zooming by him.

Augustine needs to stay in the damn net.  Two games in a row with poorly played pucks that we unnecessary risks.

I’m betting that nearly no one talks about this game after it ends, despite what the NHL Network is trying to convince me.

The announcers won't stop stroking Luke Hughes.  He is one of the oldest players in the tourney and he has 3 goals, 1 assist and is a +2.

Looks like through 2 periods he has played 1 shift for 47 seconds.

Hughes is a phenomenal skater and has all the physical tools to be a great player, but I don't know that I have ever seen him play a great game.

Any idea why we’re not seeing him out there? Is he banged up or do is it something else? Like Jup, Vegoe, and Drew talked about last night on the podcast, he’s a very capable defenseman who is playing college hockey with the best D corps in the country. Just seems crazy that he’s not getting minutes.

My guess, and it is just a guess, is that Mittelstadt jumped over him and the coach prefers him. If he were nicked up, they could have taken him off the roster and replaced him with Casey at any point.

OMG, that goal was not talent, but I appreciate he pressured into the offensive zone.

What I do like is the amount of chances Cooley has made for himself.  He seems to be all over the puck.  And I've seen him backcheck a fair amount.

Gophers are #2 and #2 in scoring behind only Bedard (who is ridiculous).

USA goalie with a huge save about 30 seconds before the US gets the GWG.

Chesley might have a bruised ego, but a chip on the shoulder is a good thing.

Hughes facing the wrong way how surprising.

Then he gets the puck in OT skates it into the SWE zone and promptly passes the puck to the other team.  This was not what I expected to see from him.

It is amazing what playing a half season with the Gophers can do to turn you into an incredible goal scorer Cooley, Snuggy, and Chaz (who played a half season last year). Bob clearly knows how to develop goal scores in only a few short months. ?

Chesley appeared to be skating fine going up to get his medal. Obviously, that's not anywhere near game speed, but he wasn't limping or anything, so I don't think he's injured. Guessing the staff just liked the other 6 more.

If Minneapolis hosts the tourney I will buy tickets just to cheer against Canada.  Those fans have unilaterally cheered for whichever team USA is playing.

IIRC, Brady Skjei was the last one cut on one of the world jrs one year, and he was huge from then on.

I think Pecknold just decided to go all-in on puck movers and hoped it wouldn't kill him in his own end. It didn't work

I’ll join you and relive the days of the student section for the ‘98-‘99. We might have been in the second student on the opposite end. Though that was a fun section. Guarantee more drunks and voice full to opposing fans.

That's the exact question I asked. Dumb to end it this way. The Cech player had the puck just slide off the toe of his stick as he and his partner were entering the zone....couldn't get back to stop the 2 on 1. That wouldn't happen 5x5 or even 4x4.

Most of these tournaments require some luck but lord did Canada have it break their way.

They are a good team, but they are also the luckiest team whose goalie played well all tournament.
