Hopefully the recruiting can change things going forward.
I hate to be the Debby Downer, but the staff, in it’s current personnel, has yet to prove they can recruit at a championship level. The team is losing huge amounts of talent at the end of this season. I am somewhat pessimistic going forward.

No, I totally agree. Next season doesn't look too pretty, and neither does the recruiting.
Just like the Men's team, the women have set a series attendance record this year.

A little early to think of this, but the season is winding down and it’s in my head this morning.
I’m counting 11 players departing at the end of the season and 6 incoming freshmen.
Goalie
Out: M. Pahl and O. King
In: none
Even if recent addition Sophia Johnson returns, a transfer tender (or late freshman signee) seems inevitable.
Defense
Out: G. Ostertag, C. Hengler, E. Oden and L. Norton
In: J. Hemp and E. Klepinger
Maggie Nicholson and Josie Dunne return after red-shirt seasons. Allie Franco looked o.k. in limited action, still, a transfer here probably isn’t out of the question. Long shot speculation, Emma Kreisz has quite a bit of experience on “D” in her younger days playing for Hungary.
Forwards
Out: C. Skaja, T. Heise, G. Zumwinkle, A. Boreen and S. Norcross
In: A. Lindsay, L. O’Hara, E. Kreisz and I. Goettl
Emma Conner returns after missing the bulk of this season with an injury. A transfer here seems possible also.
I'll be pleasantly surprised if next year's team finishes above .500 in league play. And I don't think this is being overly pessimistic.

I don’t think I’m quite as close to the ledge as you, but I’m expecting a drop off to a Duluth level possibly going forward.
In terms of a shot at a title, this is the year. One good thing looking forward is that other rosters lose a bunch of impact players as well. In the WCHA, Wisconsin is the team that returns the most top-caliber players.
If a team needs a backup goalie, there should be one available via the portal, as we will still have a Covid class next year. I foresee a dropoff, but .500 in the WCHA would be a historic drop. We've had other years where we graduated a lot and the returning roster looked half empty, but those have been some of our most over-achieving teams.
The late season swoon continues. They make the UST goalie look like Jim Craig and need OT to beat the Tommies 2-1.
First ever point surrendered to UST.
Gophers now need a regulation win tomorrow and WI to take 4 points from OSU to tie for the title.
Good luck with that.
Well, WI is up 3-0 on OSU.
Reshuffling the deck a bit today. Skaja back in the lineup, although lite (4th line) duty.

The game will be on Fox9+. 😀
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Well, WI is up 3-0 on OSU.
badgers fritter away a 4-0 lead but still come out with a 6-5 overtime win.
We"ve scored 5 goals tonight. But 2 in our own goal.
Assuming we hang in in regulation need a WI win in regulation tomorrow win outright the title, or a win in it to tie.
4-2, dagger.

Will this be a situation where a team that sweeps drops in the (meaningless) poll?
Maybe a spot or two. Just because it was at home.

If WI sweeps OSU I could see them leapfrogging us.
Does anyone know what happened to Makayla Pahl?
Does anyone know what happened to Makayla Pahl?
She was dressed on Friday and has taken part in the senior day festivities. She has had some issues that, even though she has made them public, I don’t think need to be discussed on a forum like this.

Heise and Grace Zumwinkle named WCHA 1st Team. Boreen, Murphy and Vetter named to the 3rd team. Leitehen on All-Freshman team.
Individual awards named next week.
I am a casual Women's Hockey fan, went to the Saturday Gopher vs Wisconsin game and had a great time. Ridder was packed.
I was next to a Badger fan who seemed in tune with the WCHA, had some good conversation. But he absolutely loathed Murphy. He was exclaiming that she always takes dives to get penalties, that she plays dirty before and after the whistle....
Any one care to chime in on if his Murphy hatred is warranted?

Absolutely, yes. Diving, and dirty before and after, all yes.
A couple weeks ago Heise took a diving penalty against Wisconsin. I didn't see it, maybe it was questionable, but Murphy should have been called for diving a couple minutes earlier.
Flip side. Earlier in the year in a big game against Ohio State: Gophers took a 2-0 lead, Ohio State came out in the second period at absolute maximum intensity, like they can do better than anyone in women's hockey currently. They had the Gophers totally on their heels. Murphy looked like maybe the only Gopher who loved it, who wasn't on her heels but was motivated by it.
She plays at full speed with maximum abandon at all times. I used to think to a fault, but I have been enjoying that full tilt style more and more.
I don't enjoy the dirty play or the diving.
As I said a few weeks ago, Abbey has a lot of Pat Micheletti in her game.
I was at the game where they called Heise for diving. It was a ridiculously bad call.
Murphy is cheap. No question about it.
This very sad news posted by frequent contributor here ARM on the USCHO board…
I send my prayers to the family and friends of former Gopher Becky Wacker whose youngest daughter passed away yesterday at the age of three. Very sad news.
Becky is a native of Maine who wore the from 2003 to 2007. She stayed in the area and had coached girls hockey at Wayzata for a time. No words seem adequate at these times.
Playing with the women's pairwise predictor
Looks like we can end up anywhere between #3 and #5. We want Colgate to lose to Quinnipiac, and if they do it looks like the worst we can finish is 4th.
If WI beats us and then Ohio State, they jump us. Worst case I saw had Colgate winning ECAC and moving up to 2, Yale to 3, and WI winning WCHA and them at 4 and us at 5 meaning a NCAA QF in Madison.
Woof.
Looking again it looks like any Colgate loss, has us jump over them and into the #3 spot no matter how we do this weekend. So we are huge anyone but Colgate fans in the ECAC.
If the Gophers win the WCHA playoffs and Yale doesn't win the ECAC playoffs the Gophers can finish Pairwise #2.
Taylor Heise named WCHA forward of the year

That highlight video does a great job of showing off her great hands. She can stick handle in a phone booth. Wait since phone booths have been eliminated what is the new way to say this? She can stick handle in a crowded cell phone store? ?

That thing you stand in at airport security with your arms up?
Can stick handle in a food truck?

Heise snubbed for back to back WCHA POTY by the conference coaches in favor of Jacques from Ohio State.
Hopefully she can use that as motivation for this weekend.
Both games today were picked up on TV by Fox 9 Plus. Same with tomorrows championship game.
Go Gophers!!

Thanks. That was a tough read. My heart aches for any parents that have to endure that.
OSU beats UMD 2-1 in the first Semifinal. One fluke goal seals the deal.
Congrats to the new ASU coach frost!
Great win for the Gophers!!!
It's always fun to beat the Badgers.
The WCHA championship game will be a battle between the top two teams in Pairwise.
Entertaining game so far
1-0 Gophers.
Norcross with 5 minutes left in the first.
1-0 end of 1.
Little scrum at the end of the period. OSU player shoved Murphy in the ice and she took a dive like she got shot. Not sure what all the calls will be.
She sold it well enough to get a 5 minute powerplay to start the second
Penalty was contact to the head. It doesn't seem to matter how hard it may or may not be if it's contact to the head it's 5.
Well, there was definitely head contact, but it was a shove. Sounds like the refs' hands were tied unless they wanted to just call roughing, which I assume would happen in a men's game.
