I thought the refs had a tough time today, but all of a sudden there is mucho hitting in the women's game.
This is still a top-5 team in the country but I'm not sure I've enjoyed watching a Gopher women's team less in 11 seasons of being a fan, even the teams that were definitely worse. Just so far behind OSU and Wisconsin that it's not even fun.
They are definitely top 5. Maybe top 3. The gap between 2 and 3 is vast this year, though. Hell the gap between 1 and 2 seems pretty big too. (From a Gopher perspective, anyway)

Having been a fan of the women's hockey program now for a number of years and of course of the men's program as well (going on over 35 years now), I am so perplexed at how closely the refs call penalties for the women's game compared to the men's game. It's completely laughable. Honestly, I prefer the hard nosed style that Abbey Murphy brings to the women's game. That style of play should be rewarded more I tend to think. She will do great things in the PWHL one can see as the refs in the PWHL just let them play and those players grind it out for a full 60.

I'm sure next year will be a better team. OSU will have a lot to replace, though I still think Wisconsin will be very good. But it's a tough watch when Minnesota is largely being carried by one line, and one player in particular.
Like all here I watch the Gopher women every season thinking they can do it and win another championship. Not this year. I hope someone in the know can tell me this is a low season.

They can actually play with Wisconsin at times if they play hard D and play physical. But they can't keep up and skate with Wisconsin, they are much too fast. More so against Ohio State. I do think that Primerano coming next year and the bummer crop of recruits is going to change things up. The size and speed advantage Wisconsin currently has...that gap will close up. Give these recruits a few months under their belts...you'll see what a difference maker Chloe will be. She's the real deal.

Obviously the rest of the conference hates her. There's no other explanation how the conference and nations goals leader gets dropped to second team all conference.
Hopefully she takes this as positive motivation to absolutely take it to the Badgers and Buckeyes next weekend instead of doing something stupid.

I have only been to one Gopher Women's Game in the last 4 years. Happened to sit next to a Badger fan who absolutely loathed Murphy. He was calling out every little thing she did as cheap, agitator, overly aggressive.... it was great seeing her get under his skin the whole game LOL.
Murphy’s antics don’t bother me because she is an elite level player and can back it up. She knows she has a target on her back and embraces it.

That's a bad loss. Gophers have struggled vs MSU all year. Massive gut check time. Don't think they miss the NCAAs if they don't advance but going to be a lot closer to the bubble than if they do advance.
Vetter was solid for the first half of the game, then her evil twin came in and she was fighting the puck more than I can ever remember her doing. It was not a visually pleasing game in any way.

He just got a 2 year extension around Christmas. He's not going anywhere.
This was always going to be a "down" year here just because they lost so much from last year. And they haven't had a great recruiting class this past year. He's got what appears to be two really good classes lined up. But yeah he's going to have to figure out a way to compete with the Wisconsin's in the Ohio States to draw either transfer portal talent that wants to come here versus one of those two schools.
Would I have maybe liked to see them try and throw a lot of money yet muzzy to get her to come over from Ohio State yeah but I just don't think that's going to ever happen

I agree. While she played at Minnesota it's not like she's from here. She's not even from the USA.
It has become a tough spot with Mark Johnson and Nadine Muzerall coaching the top rivals. So the Gophers are a little thin now and while we're banking on the incoming classes, don't forget all of the classes were recruited by Frost.

Apparently, our standards are we are happy if we are not humiliated by Wisconsin. I think Coach Frost should just play a recording for these post game remarks. Saying the same thing over and over gets insulting.
Gophers were outshot 26-7 over the 2nd and 3rd periods, and I believe about 8-1 in the latter part of the 1st.
Brian Idalski (St Cloud State Coach (ex-UND)) was at the game yesterday. Stylistically not my cup of tea, but my opinion is he would have an excellent chance of making us a 1st tier program again.
