Happy August 1st to those who celebrate

I know this day has been hard the past few years but with virtually zero recruits in the pipeline and millions of dollars of untapped NIL I'm cautiously optimistic!
Happy August 1st to those who celebrate

I'm not enjoying it being national girlfriend day on the same day as commits are allowed to verbal.

National girlfriend day, girlfriend’s birthday, off season photo dump, start of the season photo shoot pics, mid season photo drop with inside joke as the caption, playoffs post just captioned something like “ploffs” or “big dawgs gotta eat”, and turning pro post making sure to “thank everyone who’s supported them along the way”. Like clockwork lol
looks like basically nothing but east coast kids so far committing. only action out west has been a couple to Notre Dame so far it seems
Love it!
Aloha!
Conboy commits.
when does he start playing at the U of M?
well he's 16 right now (April bday per EP) so I'd envision he's at least 2 years out/Fall 2027
Relatively quiet last few days. McQueen to providence really the only “big” one recently. Couple guys to MSU, Michigan, ND, and DU over the last 2 days. Still none of the local guys off the board aside from Gopher commits. Wonder/hoping if some of that is Bob having the WJC responsibilities
Conboy commits.
Son of former St Cloud St player Tim Conboy. So that's 3 commits in the last couple days from kids of former Huskies.
I don’t like speaking in absolutes but with the run on forwards last week is it safe to say the window on Kraft/Vanek has officially been closed? I just don’t see how you could fit them in in the next year or two.

Seems unlikely, barring some unexpected departures. Can keep the door open but they do not seem to be a priority, especially if the staff lands Fitzhenry and/or Schneider.
I wonder if Finn’s brother Will McLaughlin would be someone the coaching staff would consider pursuing. Currently playing for USA in the Hlinka Gretzky as a LHD. Has nice size and mobility.
Currently committed to CC
Brooks Demars (formerly of WBL/Hugo) to UND. Doesn't sound like MN ever offered (or really any of the local schools based on who Schlossman listed)
If I’m coach my day 1 offers are:
F: Fitzhenry, Schneider, Conboy, Cullen, Jarvis
D: Geiger, Scott, Johnson
Rooney and Zimmerman right on the edge, next in line.
4 down, 4 to go…

Great cycle so far for Bob and co.
FWIW, chatter on the UND board said that Schneider followed Bryn Chyzyk (UND GM).
Not sure if anyone posted this article already but it sounds like Zimmerman hasn’t been offered yet, as some have suggested in the past.
If we could only have 1, I’d take Fitzhenry over Schneider.

Gieger also follows Chyzyk so there goes that theory

Splitting hairs but I agree. Or ya know we could just get both lol

Zimmerman isn’t getting offered til both Fitzhenry and Schneider are off the board (no insider info just an educated guess). If we get both or even one honestly, then idk if we need to pursue ZZ very hard
Based on what I see regarding future line prognostications, I will be shocked if Gavin Katz ever steps foot on the U of M campus…unless he is a very, very low scholarship kid and grandpa deep pockets is calling the shots.

Respectfully, what did Gavin think was the plan when he committed? He was always gonna be a 2 years of juniors, 4 years of college guy. He can work his way up from the bottom of the lineup as he progresses in college. Boyd and Lettieri did so and are still playing in the NHL today.
If he were to see the lineup and decide to go elsewhere I could understand it at least.
I would imagine Katz understood the general plan, especially as a smaller player who is a non-NHL prospect at this point. He had a strong year with SSM. Let's see how he fares in the USHL; I would imagine he still part of the staff's plans.
The narrative has gone from "OMG they can't fill the roster" to "What they gonna do with the scrubs?!?"

The concern for me wasn't Motko's ability to attract future recruits. It was building this year's team after losing so many players from last season.
The team isn't going to suck by any stretch, but it would have been nice to add a little juice by bringing in a couple of experienced transfers this season.
The other legitimate concern is tBobs age & the succession plan. He’s a good coach, no one is debating that point. But he’s also 64 years old.The concern for me wasn't Motko's ability to attract future recruits. It was building this year's team after losing so many players from last season.

The program is likely to take a step back for a season, and no one disagrees that tBob is nearing retirement. Neither observation at face value drew anyone's ire.

What’s the scoop on Katz? Has produced at every level and against good competition. Everyone on the boards seems very down on him, relatively speaking.
Huh, who’s ire is being drawn? lol, I don’t think they’ll take much of a step back in 25-26, but conversely, it’s a legitimate concern when many of these new recruits will be playing for a different HC before their careers at the U conclude (with no successor in clear sight).Neither observation at face value drew anyone's ire.

How far out do you want them to name a successor?? Is there supposed to be one in clear sight with 3 years left on Bob’s contract?

I like Katz! Great two way player. Just a matter of who’s around him and what his role will be. Here’s the forwards in our pipeline ranked (imo):
1. Wyatt Cullen
2. Gunnar Conboy
3. Jacob Kvasnicka
4. Luca Jarvis
5. Gavin Katz
6. Jackson Nevers
7. Brooks Cullen
8. Hayden Reid
The point is, nobody has the foggiest clue who is next in line? If they’d of won the NC in 2023 they cud afford to let tBob be Red Berenson. Unfortunately that isn’t the case.Huh, who’s ire is being drawn? lol, I don’t think they’ll take much of a step back in 25-26, but conversely, it’s a legitimate concern when many of these new recruits will be playing for a different HC before their careers at the U conclude (with no successor in clear sight).Neither observation at face value drew anyone's ire.

it will be the same names thrown around.
raboin, potulny, ferschweiler and then people will add guys like Barr, Knott and long shots like poaching another high end guy who’s not realistic (Carle) or NHL assistants. Same shit as UND just did this year. You don’t need a “coach in waiting” as we have the pocketbook and resources to go wherever, even if the former Gopher coach pipeline is so so. Don’t know why we get so on this like there should be someone known breathing down Bobs neck this season.
It’s the benefit of we recruit MN so well is that many of these kids recruit to play for the M first, the coach second. The M and the resources that come with it as well as the track record of putting guys in the NHL regardless of coach sells very well. If anything, I’d expect with a new coach you’d only have more chance of adding guys than dropping anyone we’ve seen commit thus far
I am not concerned about a succession plan. There should be a long line of candidates interested given the salary and resources. The coach of course matters in recruiting but you are also selling the program, school, etc. Motzko has his faults but I imagine he is up front about his long-term plans.
Agreed, there should be little to no concern about getting a high end coach when Bob retires. This is still one of the premier coaching opportunities across the country and like others have said, most of these kids pick MN for the M anyways. There will always be some turnover as coaches like different players but I highly doubt it will be much.
Jonas Kohn (son of Bill Kohn) is at Regina Pats main camp. New norm of seeing MN kids test out the waters in WHL.
Motkzo has three years left on his contract and if the Cullens especially Joey (who is currently 15 years old) wants to play for him I wouldn't be surprised if when Joey signs or shortly after coach gets another extension (likely 2 years). Red coached Michigan till he was 77 years old. Bob is very unlikely to coach till that age but I can definitely see him coaching till 69 years (he is currently 64 years old).

Good Lord try harder.

Ludtke, Di Pasquo, and Finn McLaughlin are three transfers/pick ups that will help this year's team.
Mike McMahon says the Gophers were the portal winner in the B1G.

League Winner: Minnesota
The Gophers scored one of the best pickups in the portal with goaltender Luca Di Pasquo. Michigan State hated to see him leave, but after Trey Augustine announced he’d be back for his senior season, the writing was on the wall.Di Pasquo played in just seven games last year, but his 1.70 GAA and .933 save percentage tell you plenty about his potential. If he handles the grind of a starter’s workload, he could easily be in the Mike Richter Award conversation. His ceiling? As high as anyone who changed addresses this offseason.
Minnesota also added forward Tanner Ludtke from Omaha. Limited to eight games a year ago, he’s still a 2023 Utah third-round pick with plenty of upside if he’s healthy this fall.
