I heard that Bob is retiring or that he is shopping for better suits to wear to the games. Not sure if either is true 😉
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
No. He was just reminded today.
Ok, good to know. No wonder we haven’t heard anything. Figured kids didn’t want anything to do with MPLS or something.

No August 1 commits and not landing Trottier sucks with earlier comments about the connection - but there is so much MN talent in this cycle. Similar or, dare I say, better players still available!
Waiting for some fun post Hlinka Gretzky... Thoughts? Insight? Anyone I'm missing or thoughts on order?
Missing Wyatt Cullen from this list. He’d be 3 or 4 for me on the list above.
Cullen is not eligible to commit until 08/01/2025.
@frozen4champs Bob will be retired by the time any of the '08 recruits arrive on campus...or any of his '07's for that matter. The big question is...who's going to replace him?
With the Hlinka-Gretzky Cup over do we think that we’ll start seeing some commitments coming in?
I think there is a decent chance we hear from Moe soon. Mason West the only other potential recruit you'd think is sensible, though maybe he sees how football offers play out. Sam Kappell is someone I have seen as a potential target for the Gophers.

So this is his last year? Mooney and the rest of the 07s are coming in next year lol. Don’t know about that one.

Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?!?!?!?
My son is an 08 and he will be a Sophomore this year.
I am 100% just throwing something at the wall here and have absolutely nothing to back this up at all, but is there any chance Bob feels particularly burned by kids like Eiserman and isn't going for the top recruits at the start of the recruiting cycle and waiting for later? I am just thinking about some other top guys who didn't initially commit here and ended up coming here (Faber/Cooley) and wondering if his strategy might be shifting a little towards that and waiting for the late bloomers.
@boats I hope not. I think the Eiserman situation, especially now that we’ve seen it was due to family health issues, is just a one off. Would be silly to avoid taking blue chippers for something like that and I don’t think Bob is that foolish to just get rid of a player group that massively plays to our advantage

I think you're right, I am just coping with no recruits so far lol

Eh, you're right...I was thinking of the 07's in terms of playing a year or two of juniors before coming in. With that said, I think Bob maybe has two seasons left in him and wouldn't be surprised if this coming season is his last.

well given his contract goes through 27-28, that would be real odd given he’s 63 at this point.

Yeah, what? I know Bob says he isn't going to coach forever, but I find this statement by Westsidescout just flat out incorrect.
I have no problems with the way tBob recruits. He normally gets the players he wants, and I believe that will be the case again this recruiting season. It always makes me laugh when some people think the Gophers should get all 20 of the top recruits every year and freak out when they don't.

Then freaked out when the Gophers apparently recruited too many skill guys and not enough lunch pail guys. Motzko seems to have been able to create a healthy mix of both for some solid rosters so far.
We wouldn't have room for the top 20 every year.It always makes me laugh when some people think the Gophers should get all 20 of the top recruits every year and freak out when they don't.
Let's just get the top 5 each year, and have them all stay 4 years.

I hope I am incorrect but he's not going to stick around for 4 more seasons until he's 67. Just because he is under contract doesn't mean he is going to be here that long. It's a wild guess is all.
The Minnesota kids all looked good in this game. Not all put up points...but all looked good. I noticed that netminder Xavier Wendt appeared to be injured with 10 minutes left in game, skated off the ice straight down the tunnel and did not return. He stopped 19/20 SOG prior to leaving.
AJ Francisco to Notre Dame is a headscratcher
Maybe a Blake Biondi sales pitch?
AJ Francisco to Notre Dame is a headscratcher
anybody to ND is a head scratcher right now
They got a young new coach coming in next year I don’t think I agree
My question is what style/scheme are they selling? The same one? The guy for next year is already part of this system (played under him and now will coach under him) and has one year of head coaching experience prior not in the NCAA (and he’s 40, not like he’s Carle when he was hired not Naurato). I don’t see him specifically as being an exciting/major sell for a high end guy but that’s my feelings. Seems like a younger retread of Jackson minus the experience
I don’t think coaches sell recruits on a defensive system when they’re on their visit, even if that’s the system they run. I don’t imagine that’s what Jackson or Sheahan lead with when the recruit steps on campus lol
It has been a boring August compared to previous years. I wonder if the CHL lawsuit has something to do with it. Not a bad idea to have some room left when/if those players become eligible. Go after the top-tier kids, but maybe not go to 2nd tier just yet.

Apparently his Dad, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Great Uncle were all Bulldogs. Think Sandelin figured that he was in the bag?
I’m in no way worried about our recruiting but I find it interesting that we’ve seen no commitments yet. Is it kids wanting to really take their time or are the coaches waiting for the season to start to make offers?
Just wishing for some news as we wait for the season to start

I would guess the kids they are targeting are being more patient. Perfectly reasonable; I think the staff is smart enough to know you need to be early on the really high-end talents. I will only be concerned if a few high profile talents (Berchild, Lutner, etc.) go elsewhere. Seems they are just taking their time with the process.
I haven’t typically followed the recruiting window this closely, but when I look at elite prospects there are multiple years when our first commit is October. Some years we get 1 or 2 in August but then others later on.
Is the concern more that others have pulled high end talent and we haven’t?
I don’t think there is any reason for concern. Probably just FOMO seeing other schools getting commitments.
Let’s hope they can get Berchild and Lutner
Yep, pretty much just FOMO. Mooney committed in October. Oliver Moore and Jimmy Snuggerud committed in February and March respectively. Chesley was like December or something. Some things are worth waiting for.
Semi related topic…can we get the Under 18 back here for some exhibitions? That was always a good game and a way to show the U18 players what playing at Mariucci felt like
Havent they played here once a year for the past decade? Maybe I’m misunderstanding the phrasing of the question…
Logan Lutner commits to Denver
This is when the staff needs to pull out a random out of state gem like Grimes last year. Not a big fan of the MN defensemen left not named Carson Steinhoff but I don’t think he’ll be a Gopher.
Losing Lutner is disappointing.
Curious who targets - if any - on defense will be now. Henry Chmiel has grown on me a lot.
Berchild still the big fish.
Wow. I'm with others - Lutner loss hurts. Surprising too. Maybe he wants to stay in crimson colors (ha - but not)? Denver seems to be building a nice little MN recruiting pipeline. Burrows and Spehar too.
Here's to Mason Moe and Mikey B staying here... Fingers crossed.
On the D side - I have Chmiel and Celski as top MN D guys available after Lutner. I don't do much hunting on the out-of-state recruits...
MN forward recruits - Puchner, Vandertop, and West. Any news?
Who else we got on the radar?
I’m sure we will be able to find plenty of good defensemen by time this class hits campus. Lots of options out there and many that aren’t considered highly touted at the moment.
