I don’t think it’s shocking how the Cammy situation turned out. We all wanted it to turn out great but he was pretty much a one dimensional player who got away with things at prior levels that he couldn’t get away with at the college level. Once the scoring wasn’t there, there wasn’t much else to offer. He wasn’t adaptable to any other roles. Kloos was the elixir
I’m sure this kid is good but Taylor Cammarata scored almost 3 points a game for Shattuck at both U14 and U16. So glad the early recruiting era is over.
You think Cammarata is a product of the early recruiting era? He scored 69 points as a 16 year old in his first USHL season then followed that up with a 93 point second season. He would have been a high end recruit in any era.
I think Taylor's U of M career was a very stange one indeed. As an 18 year old freshman he had a 10 goal 17 assist season in 2013-14 which is a very good season. That was in the same season as fellow freshmen Justin Kloos and Hudson Fasching who had 32 and 30 points respectively.
What made Cammarata's career unusual is he only scored 15 more goals over three seasons and his goal-assist ratio was so lopsided. For a forward a 25 goal to 68 assist ratio is very unusual. Plus, his freshman year was by far his best year of his college career, with his sophomore year his second best. His junior and senior seasons were much weaker. Jay Baribell had a similar career as his freshman season was the best of his career, but his later seasons were a bit better than Cammarata's.
It's fair to say that the team in general was not as strong the last couple years Cammarata played. Look at the D core his last few seasons. Hard to have strong offensive numbers without good puck movers back there.

Mason Minor has sure been impressing in the Elite League. Only a sophomore and was on the All-Star team that played the U17 team and now makes the end of the year Elite team. Definitely one to continue to watch.
Jacob Kvasnicka has dominated so far at the U17 tournament. He’s a long ways away from committing (9 months) but we’re likely the favorite for him at this moment in time.

Not that it is the end all be all, but recent photos of Kvasnicka in Gopher gear. Can't be a bad thing.

I don’t think we will be in on him.
Sam Scheetz of Minnetonka no longer committed to Vermont.

I don't know it was here or I saw it elsewhere, but somebody stated he was in Gopher gear not long ago. Could be nothing; could be a sign.
Never been a big fan. Lots of speed but not much else. Doesn’t seem to fit what tBob is doing but could be wrong.

I think someone tweeted he was at a Gopher game wearing Gopher gear, which he later deleted. The kid was in the lineup for whichever USHL team he plays for that night.
Adam Hauser’s son made the varsity team for Rogers. Matt Hauser is a sophomore D. Rogers has a bunch of D1 caliber players and definitely worth a watch this year.
Not sure if we were after him but another big get for BU

We loaded up on 2007 born D men so I feel like we’re fine. Phillips, Grimes, Rombach is a great trio if all the rankings and scouting reports are to be trusted.
Does anyone know if we’re in on Cole Bumgarner out of Rogers?
I have a lot of hot takes about Cole Bumgarner that I’m sure will make their way onto this board eventually but to answer your question, yes we are in on him.
I think it’s pretty well known that his dad has a “heavy hand” in Cole’s hockey career. Cole is a great talent but it will be interesting to track his path to college. I have a feeling he will be onto the USHL next year after being on three different HS teams in three years.

Yeah I noticed that he’s on HS #3. I don’t know this kid or his family from Adam but that can sometimes indicate a lack of patience if the current team or situation is exactly what they want. But again, who knows the actual reason.
How many HS sophomores are there who are already on their third HS team? That could be a first.

His dad is living through his son, to put it lightly. He will be at the Development Camp next year in all likelihood. Quite the talent.
Good point. Making the youth Olympics team likely puts him at the front of the line for the development program. I did see his dad talking heavily with Cary Eades (Fargo) at a game this year, so at least one USHL team is keeping tabs on him.
Has Hampton slukynsky signed loi or do we have a chance of flipping him?
Per this article from Rink Live, he has signed his LOI: https://www.therinklive.com/high-school/minnesota-hockey/heres-the-players-who-are-signing-their-national-letter-of-intent-today
Also, unless Barto is looking elsewhere, seems goalie is set for a few years.
For some reason I thought Hupka returned to h.s. Guess not ?
Has Hampton slukynsky signed loi or do we have a chance of flipping him?
We’re pretty set in the goalie position for the future with Airey and Bartoskziewicz

Honest question, is it a sure thing that Barto is coming back? Also, are we sure he's good?
1) As of now yes he’s still committed
2) He’s doing well in the USHL this year and even if he doesn’t pan out in college we have Airey who’s the BCHL goalie of the year.
Two unproven goalies with high ceilings.

How many player have moved from D1 to juniors and then return to the same D1 team?
It seems like they chip on their shoulder and bail. Even Staudacher, would have loved to see him on the Gopher blue line this year. Gophers asked him to take a year off, which he did, and then he left for Northeastern.

I mean I guess we’ll see. As of now he’s still committed. If he feels like he has the starting job somewhere else next season then I guess he could bail but there’s an open competition between him and Airey at a top tier program like Minnesota, to me that’s pretty hard to turn down, but I am extremely biased?

The only Gopher to go back to the USHL that I can remember is Danny Welch. He obviously had to go back because of academics and came back and again got dismissed after Christmas a year later. Quinn Fylling from the Whioux went down for a year and came back, and I think someone out east did that too. But, it is rare. That said, I think we all know Barto was forced to come in when he wasn't ready, and then mostly sat on the bench because Close became the anchor. I will feel much better if Barto comes back as Airey has not been healthy and will only see limited action in the 2nd half. Let them battle it out.

It always warms my heart when people get the historical facts correct. Thumbs up
Watched the Stillwater vs. Wayzata game last night. Now that we’ve opened the Wayzata pipeline back up, there are a couple intriguing players skating for the Trojans. I think with a year or two of juniors Brittan Alstead, Rhys Wallin and Carson Clark could be solid pickups. I’m a big fan of Rhys Wallin, he’s big, strong and surprising quick for his frame. He’s always around the puck and drives the play constantly.
From the Stillwater side, I think there are varying opinions on Blake Vanek but I also think he could be intriguing with a year or two of juniors. He looks a little like Nick Bjugstad out there and has a phenomenal shot. He was the standout for Stillwater. A couple other legacy’s on the team, Brody Dustin and Jonas Kohn who also had flashes.
I’d be happy with a 19-20 yr old Blake Vanek and Rhys Wallin.
I definitely agree on Wallin. I hope he is a target.
I’m usually not one to say “we need dominant high school player X”, but I agree on Wallin. He’s exactly what you want out of a bottom 6 forward at the D1 level. As tenacious as they come. Insane motor.

I feel like the coaching staff is on the wait and see method with Blake Vanek. He’s always had the potential, but it seems like he’s putting it together this year. Chicago used a really high draft pick on him over the summer so clearly he’s got something going for him.
I assume this is Mike Crowley's kid. Maybe add him to the wish list in a few years.

I agree on Vanek. I’m guessing there has been conversations between Bob and Thomas, but we’ll see if Blake keeps progressing.
Grant Potulny was there last night as well, seems like a few players he could try to get on early while the big schools wait a bit. Could see Blake being one of those guys.

That is his son. Seems like he’s a better prospect than his older brother Connor who transferred to Holy Family this year.

Pretty comparable to Jackson Nevers honestly. I wasn’t sold on Jackson at first and clearly the coaching staff wasn’t either cause it took late into his junior season to get an offer. Vanek might be on a similar trajectory. Definitely a player to keep an eye on.

Would be a big get. OHL will lurk, though NCAA is becoming more and more appealing by the year.
