Land Mooney and/or Hagens, and it is an immediate success. My guess is the staff is being more patient with a few fringe guys. Can see how their development unfolds over the next year.

Laurila or Lindberg likely announcing this week. I’m guessing neither will commit to us.

@younggopherdiehard2

Thinking they both end up as Hawks.

Need a Mooney commitment like yesterday.

I think 1 of 2 go Hawks. Just a guess.

Really wondering what Mooney’s timing will be. Can’t fault a kid for weighing all his options and taking his time though.

I’ve watched Eddie Dropps in a few games.  He never leaves the ice.

Blake Vanek wearing a Gopher hat throughout the entire interview. Not there was really any question there. Guys like Kraft and Vanek probably aren’t getting offers until all the big guns start falling off the board.

Stood out for Team USA at the Hlinka Gretzky cup in August. Would be a great pickup likely for fall 2024 but maybe fall 2025.

Danny Klaers commits to Notre Dame. Need a right shot d-man after Yakesh.

Thought Klaers was arguably the best RHD in our wheelhouse. Curious who the next defenseman added is.

Don’t know much about him but Carter Amico was Grimes’ D partner from Mount St Charles. 6’ 4” RHD who made the NTDP. Put up half the points as Grimes so I’m guessing more of a defensive defenseman. Following Gophers, Mich, BU and BC.

Harvard not the destination for James Hagens. Brother Michael decommitted too. Twitter says they want to go to school together.

Would think it’s down to us, Mi, BU and BC.

Interesting development. Hagens was connected to Harvard for a long time yet I felt if he was so enthused about the prospect he would have committed there early in the process.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if he wants to go 1st overall, what better way than playing with Cole Eiserman in his draft year.

Someone on another site is his usual negative self about the recruits so far this period. Bob has done an OUTSTANDING job of recruiting since he has taken over the program. He is building a complete TEAM, and not just a roster of 23 #1 draft picks. BTW, those teams usually fall by the wayside before getting to the FF. In Bob I trust.

Bummer - 2 potential Skippers in that list.  Also it's amazing the amount of talent the CCHA has been churning out the past several years.

Now that the roster is final for this year (tbh I’m very underwhelmed with the last addition) hopefully we get a couple big splash commits in the near future!!

bring on Mooney, Hagens’ bros and others….

We knew they were just looking for a 14th forward body… not sure what else you were expecting.

To be fair none of Motzko's  teams have ever punched through. He had a stacked team last season and couldn't get it done. He needs to get the monkey  off his back, and I was there in Tampa thinking  he might actually  do it.

I find it rather tough to criticize a guy (at this point in his tenure) who built a team that lost in OT of a national championship game. If we had scored in OT and won, I wouldn't personally consider Motzko any better of a coach than I do right now. He'd just have a little shinier bullet point on his resume. That's the breaks in competition. Oh well...

As far as recruiting goes... in large part, the guys who have committed elsewhere this month are not exactly what I would consider irreplaceable talents. Good players but I don't see much that makes me say "That was a damaging one to miss".

If anything, a lot of the guys who have committed thus far really haven't had as much Gopher interest as some of the internet pundits think (a little too much throwing out names in a willy nilly fashion).

I agree that there have been some players mentioned that have committed elsewhere that we weren’t actually recruiting. I like the Pride on Ice account (I think it shows how many good players come out of MN) but he does throw out a lot of players that aren’t actually being recruited.

So far the big names it’s obvious we are after haven’t committed yet, so no reason to think Bob isn’t doing awesome on the recruiting front. He also has shown he is never going to over recruit and tries to avoid cutting ties with players as much as possible, which I think is a great trait that will only continue to help us in the long run.

We have heard a lot on Mooney and Hagens, yet quiet on Cooper Simpson. Was rumored he was leaning elsewhere (possibly Michigan) but curious how in tBob is.

If he hasn’t committed there by now that sure isn’t a bad sign. I’d still call him a Michigan lock at this point in time.

I hope it’s not over for Simpson and the Gophers! He would be incredible…especially in the rivalry series because of his ability to piss the opponents off!  A skilled center with piss and vinegar is just what the doctor ordered!

Nolan Fitzhenry is a fantastic hockey name and it seems he is getting a lot of steam as a potentially elite prospect.

I went to a squirt game this past weekend that a son of a friend of mine (we used to coach traveling bantams together) was playing in.  His team was overmatched by their opponent (I think the score was 24-1, they stop counting after 10).

But the other team had a defenseman who is the 2nd best squirt player I ever watched play (the best was Rem Pitlick).   I don't know his name.  He did have a significant size advantage over the rest of the kids, but for his age he had elite edges, lateral quickness, and shot.  Most defensemen at this age really cannot get a good shot off from the blue line, but this kid (his number was 92) one play got the puck at the offensive blue line, took several very quick lateral steps to the center of the ice, then snapped a wrist shot that beat the goalie glove side.  It was an amazing shot for any age D player.

One thing I noticed about that well coached team:  they were very accurate in their shooting and put the shots upper shelf.   I am assuming these coaches are teaching their kids early to shoot high because of the butterfly techniques of goalies.

Going to Notre Dame would be the worst decision he’s ever made as a high flying offensive player. I refuse to believe he’s that dumb. That’s the best way to lose draft stock and not go 1st overall.

Not surprising at all. Should end up at Nodak with his buddy Laurila there.

I’m not a big fan of recruiting for handedness in the year 2023 as I think lefty’s and righties can both play their off side fairly easily these days, but I’ll admit it would be nice to get a RHD in the system. If we do go that route our top 2 targets should be Hill-Murray junior Landon Cottingham and Cade Campion, son of former Gopher Sean Campion. Both were high draft picks in the USHL draft.

He’s a lefty, but the best defenseman on Hill Murray, and it’s not even close, is junior Graham Greeder!

Cottingham is very good, but I am a little concerned about his skating will transfer to the D1 level.

Sophomore Casper Lang is definitely worth keeping track of too!!  He’s as complete of a defenseman as you will find.

Watched a lot of both and I think Cottingham is hands down the better player. Greeder is one to watch for sure though.
