Middle of the 2nd period Airey out Liam in.

Airey played well giving up only one goal (a break away).

Liam Souliere from Penn State was 0-5 against the Gophers last year and 1-11 in his career against the Gophers. If you can't beat them join them.

St. Cloud player trips Rinzel and then cross checks. Gophers to the Power Play.

They changed the rule back to the way it use to be if you score on a delayed penalty you don't get the power play any more.

The Snuggy goal. I think it was 74 Ziemer with the sweet pass across the slot.

Ziemer has been BY FAR the best freshmen (Wood is a young junior he started college a year early). This is not a shot against the other freshmen it is a compliment of Ziemer.

He is clearly being put in key spots (1st line and 1st PP unit) and he is delivering.

I like the speed; not only skating but also decision making.  Good stuff.

I think a Wood, Moore, Snuggy line could be real beast but I see why coach has put Ziemer with Moore and Snuggy that line is looking good together.

St. Cloud has now used three goalies (one for each period). With the Gophers up by two goals I'm not rooting for OT but if the game does end up going to OT will St. Cloud put in a 4th goalie? 🤔

Wood tried to shot between his legs but the St. Could defender got in the way.

Gophers have looked good and not just one line.  Speed and size through the lineup.

Shots on goal are Gophers 28-15 with under 7 minutes left. The shots after one period were 7-6 so it has been all Gophers the last period and half.

St. Cloud to first power play.

Time for the short handed units to get some work.

I need to get use to Thomas wearing #22 at first I am like why is Brodzinski (I realize he is no longer on the team) playing defense? 🤣

Gophers get the kill. Liam made a really good save when we mistakenly left a Husky wide open in the slot.

Play under review with 3 minutes left. The boys on both teams are getting a little rough with each other. The St. Cloud challenge leads to no penalty.

A rule adjustment for this season a 5 minute major with head contact is an automatic game disqualification.

Based on what I saw I don't see anybody beating the Gophers this season. The real question is will anybody be able to stay within 2 goals? 😀

And to think some fans didn't want him back on the team this season. His strong play and experience is a HUGE asset!!!

I like the Chesley-Thomas d pairing.

Wood looks like a monster on TV

I think the Gophers will have more grit this year.

Påhlsson is bigger than I anticipated, and didn’t appear shy to play like it.

Him and Ziemer were very noticeable in person. Strong and fast. Good patience with the puck too.

So they couldn’t find the right button to play the national anthem so after a couple tries and some silence the student section just started singing.  They let it go a cappella, it was pretty cool.

bring a purse. They didn’t make me go through the wand and didn’t really look in my purse. But yea it was a cf getting in.  🤷‍♀️

not a huge crowd.  They have a band again. (Not as cool as ours).

Let’s settle down and start skating circles around these guys.  (And scoring goals). 😁

To give credit where it's due, the student section doing that was really cool.

Wood’s skating is “yikes” for a first round pick. Leads me to believe he can make some magic happen with the puck on his stick. Teams don’t just toss around first round picks.

Gino Parrish getting excited and talking about a SCSU player with his shirt was interesting. He’s a knob just like his brother.

Great win for the Gophers, only exhibition, but anytime they can win 5-1 up in St. Cloud it's great. 5 unanswered goals, and most of their fans left 5 minutes early, which is rare. Go Gophers!

I'd have to rewatch the game again, but was the one goal we gave up a 1-on-0 break?  If so, then if the goaltending we saw tonight is any indication for the season, then I like our chances.  Sure there were signs of rust and it was just an exhibition, but given the questions surrounding the net this past offseason, tonight answered at least some of those questions for the positive.
