Gophers don't have fighters, will only have 6 D so none of them can fight and get kicked out. Johannes will probably try to start something. The only option the Gophers have to send out to try to fight someone is Michel. Doesn't look like a fighter.
I can't believe Johannes is still playing college hockey. He's older than his high school teammate Casey Mittelstadt.
He was a senior for EP like eight years ago, what are we even doing here?
Close is older
Nevers and Aiery were on the ice today, but neither were full participants. No Chesley out there.
Looked like Lamb was playing center and Moore slid to wing today and they were trying Pitlick-Nelson-Brodzinski as a line.
How many fights break out this weekend? I’m putting the over/under at 3.
Were there any in the series last year?
I don’t think there was anything big. But I have a different feeling about this year.
An actual fight/brawl where players get tossed or skirmishes where players get roughings?!?!?!
If the games are tight then just the latter. If one of the games gets out of hand either way, especially if it’s Saturday night, I think we might see an actual fight/brawl. Plenty of chirping material to go both ways. North Dakota missing the tournament. Minnesota losing in the championship. North Dakota seems to have their swagger back and it feels like there’s a bit of a chip on the shoulder of this Gopher team between losing in OT last year and Cooley leaving late over the summer. Who knows, I could be completely wrong but I don’t know, just feels even more intense going into the series this year.
Interesting assessment on North Dakota. If thrashing Manitoba and Army, and beating Wisconsin 2-0 in a game where Wisconsin hit 4 posts is them having their swagger back then all the power to them. Feels like there’s this odd narrative being created that the Gophers are going up to Grand Forks to get their butts kicked.
Certainly not ideal with the defense but the Gophers will be fine. Sure North Dakota is good. But the Gophers have deeper forwards, and the better goalie. These two teams rarely sweep each other, and both teams will get up for this series. Bring. It. On!
Fighting is not the strength of our lineup and hopefully the coaches have made that VERY clear. We have some guys with size and power but that is not our game. Nelson has been called before on big hits that were largely due to his size not really penalties which makes him a little leery. Fish also cannot afford to take a penalty. Both in the NHL game would be no problem, just in college you have guys moving the puck 6-8 inches smaller. Be smart this weekend, be careful with the puck and BURY those no logo wanna be guys from wherever they come from.
Is it Friday yet??? I'm super excited for these games against the whioux. Seriously this could be a Frozen 4 preview, as both these teams have the teams that can get there this year.

Yeah cause that line was the problem…
Nevers-Nelson-Brodzinski would be a good third line on a great team. The problem is Nelson and Brodzinski are looking pretty slow (and no Nevers) hence the need to insert Pitlick and not have them a liability against fast teams.
It's not uncommon for a team to have at least 1 player that regresses and before the season began the one player I had pegged for that was Brodzinski. It's only been 2 real games and that prediction will hopefully be proven wildly ignorant. And again only 2 games, but Cal Thomas is currently a neg 3. Moore, Rinzel, Brodz and Nelson the only other players negative. Chesley is a team best +4 and unfortunately out.

I think scoring in general will regress for the Gophers, not just because of the loss of knies and Cooley, but because they lost some great puck moving defensemen. The defenseman that played last weekend didn't seem to have the ability to get the puck up the ice like Johnson, Faber, or LaCombe.
Brodz had several grade A chances in the game at the X. For some reason he is the whipping boy for some posters on this site despite putting up solid numbers each year.
He had more points as a freshman than Lamb or Kurth and he had 26 points after his sophomore year compared to Huglen who had 33 in his first two years. Last year Brodzinski was 5th on the team in scoring following only Cooley, Snuggerud, Knies, and LaCombe. Yet he is the one that people see as the weak link. I don't get it.
It’s mainly because when he isn’t scoring he provides little to no value to the team. I’m not worried though he’ll score this year, it’s been 2 games for Pete’s sake and he scored in the exhibition
Brodz will be fine, I recall tBob noting he was in his best physical condition since arriving on campus. Nevers is a playmaker & digs the puck out of the corners, so his absence affects Nelson & Brodz. Pitlick on the line maybe just what they need, they’ll need scoring from the veteran players at The Ralph if they’re to get a win or 2 this weekend. Brodz is the player throughout his Gopher career who takes heat, then pops a few in the net & shuts everyone up. lolIt's not uncommon for a team to have at least 1 player that regresses and before the season began the one player I had pegged for that was Brodzinski. Moore and Snuggerud with 7 point weekends. Easy sweep. On to the next.
Brodz is streaky, that's how he's always been. He'll go on a tear at some point, hopefully he gets that started sooner than later. IMO, everything we heard recently is true, he does look like he's moving much better out there than in previous years. I expect this will be his best season.

My intent wasn't to slight Brodz. I've had no complaints about his production and I'm not even singling out actual results this season. Sometimes a fan gets a wild thought and one was that I could see Brodz dropping off a bit, but even if he did the prediction isn't intended as a dig. And this thought occurred before the season so the first 2 games had nothing to do with it. I also noted that the prediction could end up being totally wrong and hopefully so.
No fights. Since the new regime has come in, UND is a shadow of what they used to be. (In regards to the roughing/fighting.) I’m with gator-a few skirmishes, pushing and shoving after the whistle, etc.
Unfortunately that memo did not reach the Ralph faithful.. They just live for that garbage..
Gophs need be smart this weekend, no dumb penalties.

So Koster and Chesley are both out?
Sounds like it. But Chesley is a game time decision. Nevers out too
Definitely will be seeing a few of these up in Ralphie’s Nazi bunker this weekend.

I've always loved this rivalry, and over the years I think the Whoiux rank the highest for me as a fan. But the idea of paying $29 to see 2 games streamed every other year has me to the point I'd almost be ready to give up the rivalry. I'd rather see them play a team I can watch. It looks like you city-folk will have that opportunity, but it looks like the Fox apps will only stream pre-game shows so those of us outstate are left either in the dark, or lighter in the wallet.
@koho got to love small market teams with small market tv contracts. I feel 100% the same about the duluth games. One trick to try is sign up right before the Friday game for the 24hr pass since Saturday's game is at 6 you should be able to get both games for a 1 day pass.
I live close enough to Duluth that I usually get the Gopher game on TV (if I don't attend in person).
As for the one day pass, It seems like maybe only the first half of the second came would make it under the clock. (And I didn't see the 1 day pass.) Would be my luck, cut-off as Gophers are closing in on a 3 on 1 while trailing by 1.
Looks like Friday is a puke (green) out. ? ?
I guess I'm lucky. I'm as rural as it gets but we get ch9 and Fox9+ on our tv.I've always loved this rivalry, and over the years I think the Whoiux rank the highest for me as a fan. North Dakota is improved and were not as talented as last year. Add in NCHC Officials and I'm just hoping for a split.

Hoping for a split? I swear some of you make it sound like we are bringing a JV squad up to Grand Forks to face a NHL caliber team. The Gophers forward group is actually deeper than last year and the the D will get there.
Already sick of hearing this week about our young D core and how “scary” the Ralph is to play in. They have 14 new guys and a whole new D core. Many portal adds. Certainly not always the case, but many players go to the portal for a reason. Let’s attack these hoseheads this weekend!
I have a room mate who's a BADgers fan. He was in attendance for the game up there last weekend.
His take was this, BADgers carried the play, but they rang the post about 5 times and that ended up being the real difference in that one.
Take it for what it's worth. I don't think anyone should be proclaiming the sky is falling. You faced off against a Saint Thomas team that has grown up faster than expected, and split with SCSU and you held off their balls to the walls push the first night and handled play the second night with a couple hiccups in there.
Scrioux the Pioux.

I did a one day pass a few years ago when the Friday game was at 7pm and the Saturday game at 6pm. Bought the one day just before puck drop and I was good to go for the full game on Saturday as well since the start time was within the 24 hour period.

Totally agree. There is no reason to think we won't do just fine in Grand Forks.

So I assume you get to watch past/recorded/replay games with the 1 day pass too? So couldn't a person get the one day pass Sat morn and watch game from night before during the day, and live game at night? One thing I would be leery about is that some sports sites put the outcome of the game in the title when it is a recorded version. So no way to watch it without knowing outcome. And it is way more fun to watch without knowing. At least B1G+ just had the replay listed as the two teams and the date.
Told a story years ago on USCHO about how I went to cities one weekend and asked my Dad to record the game on VHS as I was going out. I specifically said I didn't want to know the score. When I got home that night he greeted me at he door, VHS in hand, and said 'Here's the game if you want to waste your time watching it' with a frown that looked like he had just heard of someones death. I still watched as the Gophs lost something like 7-1 in the game. He didn't mention the score, as I had asked.
Well, scored a ticket to tomorrow nights game. Buddy happened upon 3 extra ones so the two of us (Gopher fans) are going with a UND buddy. Leaving at 1pm from Fargo tomorrow.
It’s been pretty quiet about UND hockey around this parts even with them winning a few games. I don’t think anyone is confident but they know they aren’t as terrible as last season.
I have a pretty good record when watching the Gophers in person in Grand Forks and I am looking to improve upon my record.
Happy Gophers-Sioux weekend everyone!
Go Gophers, Sioux Suck Shit!
I know this might get me crucified around these parts, but I am an NDSU alum so I need some revenge after last weekends thumping we got up there. I need some good Gopher games this weekend.

This is the worst thing I've read all week and I've had UND fans crawling around my twitter mentions.
It was on a tee.... ?

I don't think we will see a line brawl like the old days. UND played the Badgers last weekend and there weren't any dustups. A few small scrums but nothing like the old WCHA days.

Is this going to be another game against an insta-team like St. Thomas?
Everyone has access to the portal and can be an insta-team if they want to be.
I'm not on board with the sandbaggung. I don't expect a sweep, but anything less than a split would be a letdown. UND is improved, but I think people are underestimating how tough of an out UST is going to be this year and the Gophers have plenty of experience to get their heads straight for a series like this.
The Gophers are favored tonight. -145 on the ML.

When you look at the blue line this year compared to last year, and this time playing the Whouix on the road, a split will be a solid weekend. Not saying they can’t get a sweep & I like Rinzel, but even a re-tooled ND team will to tough at The Ralph.I'm not on board with the sandbaggung. Split would be fine, I feel like these two teams do that more often than not regardless of skill level.
