Really rough start but glad they turned it around. Can’t argue with the results so far but they might want to start off with a little bit more urgency if they want to beat good teams. Not going to get 8 mins of power play time in one period every game.
The Gophers had the puck more in the second period which forced the Badgers to chase and take some of the penalties.
Yes the Badgers could have done a better job avoiding penalties in the 2nd period but every team makes mistakes in every game. It is about taking advantage of them. The Badgers did a great job of that in the 1st period and early in the second period. The Gophers did that the rest of the way.
Last night at home Michigan needed a 3 on 3 OT goal to beat Notre Dame 2-1. Michigan State at home against Ohio State nearly blew a 3-0 lead hanging on to win 4-2 getting an empty net goal.
Big Ten wins are often street fights because it is two good teams playing each other. There are very few easy wins in the Big Ten.
All but one of Wisconsin games this season have been tight. When you play the Badgers you have to grind out wins which the Gophers did.
The Gopher goalies this season have a .930 saves %.
Souliere is .948
Airey is .915
If not for the goal that went in off of Chesley against Duluth it would .934 overall and Airey is .922
Respectfully disagree, these last 3 games they’ve had to grind out wins, rely on strong goaltending & persevere. You’re not going to be able to boat race good teams & some nights you don’t have your A game so you need to learn how to win with your B game. Can they play better tonight and make the sweep more comfortable, sure, but winning the last 3 games the way they did builds confidence for the players & coaches, especially rallying from 0-2 to win 3-2 on the road.
Definitely agree with this take.
A lot of games with a rival are going to have their ebbs and flows. Moments of good momentum mixed in with some stretches of time where the other team has the upper hand. Especially on the road. Heck, pro teams show this too... I wouldn't expect college players to be any different.
Its not always going to be a "pretty" win. It's competitive out there. UW may not have much of a record but I always expect games against a Hastings team to be a bit more of a grind and competitive regardless of talent differences.
...btw the PxP guy sure loves the phrase, "And just like that" and used it at least twice in situations that really didn't qualify.
It's not a recipe for winning hockey commentary.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

Felt like a mix up of lines is justified after their past 3 outings. That Moore-Clark-Wood line should be fun.
All four lines are changed. My initial thoughts on the new lines.
Moore going from centering Hendrickson and Ziemer (two freshmen) to playing left wing with more experienced players Wood (a junior) and Clark (a sophomore) likely helps Ollie/Oliver.
Huglen going from centering Nevers and the 12th forward (Falloon or Johnny Mitts) to centering Kurth and Lamb puts him in a position to be a bigger factor.
I am looking forward to seeing how Ziemer does with Pahlsson and Snuggy. Since Lamb is no longer on that line it is now Snuggy playing with two freshmen.
The Nevers, Hendrickson, Johnny Mitts line probably wouldn't score much but I think can be very effective playing a solid not fancy style. Hendrickson will develop into more over his Gopher career but this isn't a bad place for him now.
Hensler back in the lineup tonight for Wisconsin.
I had a split going into the weekend and for the record I still stand by it. Sometimes people forget there’s a team on the other bench trying to win too.
Get the feet moving from the opening face off, WIN some face offs and puck battles along the boards and I like our chances. I feel like if we do not do improve those things we are setting ourselves up for a preventable split. Yes, the other team is there to win and will always be a tough opponent particularly on the road in the BIG. If we are indeed the better team we will do as we have done the last couple games and win anyway. Hoping for more characteristic Gopher play tonight and not so much nail biting frustration
The Gophers have a 3 game undefeated streak in Madison (2 wins and a tie). The streak will end at some point hopefully not tonight.
I expect another close game like most Big Ten games are.
Has anybody heard anything about Thomas and Falloon's injuries? Obviously they are not playing tonight.
How about we freaking score first tonight. Wouldn’t that be something
How about we score the first 7 goals!!!!!!!
Chat is going, as usual.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Lets go Gophers!
Has anybody heard anything about Thomas and Falloon's injuries? Obviously they are not playing tonight.
Neither injury is long term, per Bobs radio show
Did the PBP guy just say “the Goofers”?
The Gophers have come out with high energy tonight.
Ollie gets stopped on a break away. He is the guy I most want to score tonight.
I would love to see him scoreOllie gets stopped on a break away. He is the guy I most want to score tonight.
apparently we’ve used up our goal scoring touch with how this has started
End of 1, tied at 0.

You can’t spell Tassy without ass.
love our response so far tonight, keep it up!
much better start tonight, just a matter of time before they put a few in the net playing like this.
The shots on goal in the first period 15-9
Pahlsson after the first period talking to Wally and Pat said he likes playing with Snuggy since he likes to shot and I like to pass. 🤣
Played excellent in the first but boy it would’ve been nice to get one to go. Guarantee Wisconsin will come out better after Hastings lights a fire under their ass.

yep you don’t want a game like this to bite you in the ass late. Play like the first and should be ok though
Lamb 1-0, PPG.

Lamb on the power play!!!!!
Pahlsson hurt. Bodies kind of stacking up with now 3 injuries with Falloon and Thomas
Pahlsson gets hit hard and goes to the locker room maybe a shoulder injury. Hopefully he can come back if not the Gophers are down to 11 forwards again (like last Saturday).
Johnny Mitts with a great play to set up Nevers who hits the cross bar.
Contact to the head on lamb for hitting with his back to shrug a guy off. Sure
Mosley 1-1.

It looked like the WI players own stick hit him in the head?
Bob challenging so you know 100% this won’t be overturned lol
Badgers score but the goal is being reviewed for goalie interference.
We seen how this goes before.
When that happened to us last year in Madison it was goalie interference….
Last year we were checked into both the Michigan State goalie and the Wisconsin goalie & both goals were disallowed.
This season Wisconsin player gets checked into our goalie. Goal counts.
Can someone tell their stupid band to stop drumming during the game? 😂
They also missed contact to the head on Pahlsson that knocked him out of the game. It was worse than the contact that they called on Lamb.
Last year I was told it doesn't matter that the offense player got checked into the goalie because it is his job to be stronger on his skate and not get pushed into the goalie and that is why multiple Gopher goals were disallowed.
Apparently this only applies one way.
Finley 2-1.

Feel like we should be up 4-2.
End of 2, Gophs trail 1-2.

Teams playing well, could care less if we’re down. I knew not scoring in the first would come back to bite us.
Now let’s drag this to overtime and snag a point.
@collegehockeyaddict you are absolutely correct. They had goal after goal disallowed one way, then the other way.
