I just hope he doesn't feel like the Gophers passed on him once and he doesn't hold that against them. I hope he looks at this as a great opportunity to play a significant role on a great team. Fingers crossed.

I had heard the name but didn’t know much about him. Sounds like he scored 83 points in his last year at Prior Lake HS. I couldn’t tell if that was his Jr or Sr year. Last year scored 40 points in the USHL.
6’0” 193 lbs. Drafted in the 5th round.
come home Alex!

He scored 5 goals in one game against Cretin in last years state tourney, tying John Mayasich and Grant Besse’s single game state tourney record. That’s really where he blew up.
He was also named the 2022 USA Today High School player of the year.

With the timing of all this you gotta assume he’s a Gopher, but it’s not official until it’s official

Two things:
1) Gopher Fan Page (Facebook) - Updated cover page with a Cole Eiserman picture as Gopher #34. Haven't seen anything here about an early commit. Is it even possible as a 16 year old???
2) The Alex Bump stuff - I'd love it... Bring in a skill guy with man size to play a 3rd/4th line competition role (or higher even). We don't need to accelerate Clark or Hendrickson if he comes in.
Continue the championship window!

The Eiserman photo that was posted on that site was the post that Cole posted on his instagram last September when he committed to the Gophers. He was able to commit last year as he was going into his junior year of high school. There are a lot of articles and discussions about Cole in the committed recruits thread.

The Gophers first game is at Xcel Energy Center this year, and their last game will be played there as well! I predict they will win them both! Go Gophers!

Cooley leaving could be the toughest and also sneaky the best thing that happens to Snuggy. He’s the man this year.
Yeah and let’s not act like Moore is a big downgrade or even a downgrade at all. Moore is flat out nasty.
Yeah and let’s not act like Moore is a big downgrade or even a downgrade at all. Moore is flat out nasty.
Not a knock on Moore at all, but I’m not sure it’s fair to expect more than a point per game (35-40 points) from him this year, which is consistent with non-Cooley/Fantilli freshman first round picks in recent seasons.
And I hope I’m wrong, but I would bet under 50 points for Snuggy this year.
If we’re going to make a run to the X, I think these five things have to happen:
Huglen > 30 points
Nevers > 30 points
L. Mittelstadt > 30 points
Chesley > 20 points
Close > .925 sv%
Yeah and let’s not act like Moore is a big downgrade or even a downgrade at all. Moore is flat out nasty.
Moore is not all that close to what Cooley would have provided offensively this year. He does other things better than Cooley but his offensive ability and thinking the game is not that close.

I agree on that I’m comparing freshman Cooley to freshman Moore. We’ll see I guess.

If all these things happen in tandem, I'd expect this team to be a juggernaut. Kurth and Lamb stepping up would be huge as would a star turn from Huglen or Pitlick.
Huglen > 30 points
I cannot stress how badly I want to be able to stop saying it feels like Huglen should be producing more than he is.
If Brodz and Nelson can avoid the slumps that have affected them in previous years, no reason that they both shouldn't be close to .75 - 1 PPG
This team lost about 160 points from last year, including about 60 goals. If Kurth, Lamb and Huglen can increase their production to the upper 20's in points and at least 10 goals each, that would be a huge bonus. I would love to see Brodzinski continue to get near 20 goals this year as well and Nelson and Nevers break 30 points. I believe Koster will equal Lacombe's output and Luke M. move up to the Koster point range from last year. Chesley and Rinzel should add some points from the backend. One of Moore's biggest things is to make sure he can set up Snuggy for the 1 time bomb as I don't see Moore as a 20 goal guy. The final thing is, the 4th line needs to contribute to the offense this year. John M, Pino and Strobel had 11 total points last year and with all of the points lost, they need to be better in that department.

He caught that puck in the air on the blade of his stick. That's bad ass.
What will the lines be this year? IDK, but I'm very excited for this season to start. The Gophers have made it to the Frozen Four the past two years. This year they do have a solid chance to make it there again and win it all in St. Paul. Go Gophers!
They had forward depth last year but obviously the first line was special. Assuming Moore/Huglen/Nelson are down the middle, you have an excellent foundation to build around. Not too worried about how they mix and match around them. The forwards should be able to bring a bit of everything with complementary skillsets.
In my opinion Nevers-Nelson-Brodzinski is a lock. I also think Bob tries to keep Huglen and Pitlick together, as well as pair Moore with Snuggerud. What’s really up in the air is where Kurth and Lamb fit in. Either that or Bob puts the lines in a blender to start the year which is always very possible. I have

I would like to see this…
Pitlick/Huglen/Snuggerud
Lamb/Moore/Kurth
Nevers/Nelson/Brodzinski
Pinoniemi/Mittelstadt/Strobel

@ddillon22 Great post...so loved watching Vanek play. The first time you saw him on the ice you knew we were in for something special. Really enjoyed Cooley but for me personally, Vanek (along with Mike Crowley) were on another level.

Thanks. Crowley is my favorite D by a wide margin as well.
I watched a game with Crowley where he recognized the team was about to get a too many men penalty so he jumped into the bench Koalska style to make sure his feet were off the ice when the puck was touched by the 6th player.
He was so hockey smart it’s a shame he didn’t play much at the next level. Fun to watch. I really enjoyed those years.
When did you first realize you are obsessed with Mn Gophers hockey?

Obsessed is strong, but, I was rather mad when I moved into my current residence many years ago, scheduled the cable guy to wire it up AS I WAS MOVING IN, to make sure I caught the Gophers game...forgetting it was a bye week. Was so looking forward to the alleged game that night.

“Rau! Blocked! Rebound! Holl a shot scores! Scores! Justin Holl I think he beat the buzzer!”
It was my freshman year at the U. Although born and raised in Minnesota I grew up a very casual Gopher sports fan. My freshman year I was actually more into football and basketball. I unfortunately only made it to one hockey game that year (a 6-2 drubbing of BC). But that OT win over NoDak is where it all started to change. Over the past nine or ten years I’ve seen the lows of the 9-3 loss against NoDak on thanksgiving 2019 and the empty arenas for the B1G quarterfinals and I have also been lucky enough to see the highs of this past year and a half, fans returning to Mariucci, a buzz back around the program, and back to back B1G championships and trips to the Frozen Four. Really hoping we can win it all in the next couple of years. But I’ve loved the ride so far. My only regret is I wish I would have become a fan sooner.
For all the hate Bucci gets that’s one of my favorite calls of all time.
I like Bucci. Is he the best? Nope. But he is better than most.

Also, as others have mentioned in the past, he’s like the only well known sports personality that actually brings attention to college hockey.
Others contribute, but he actively promotes it, and is knowledgeable about it.

Since I was a kid - probably around 6. Although I was also a North Stars fan, there was something about my first game at Williams that superceded my first visit to Met Center and I've done everything I can since then to stay connected.
Including telling my wife that our trip to Thailand > Myanmar would absolutley not interfere with this year's NCAA tournament. I watched the regional in the Philippines, the FF semi in Bangkok and the final in Yangon at mostly ungodly hours.
I can back Slappy, he's been in Gopher Live chat during games. Dedication.

I'm very disappointed I couldn’t get my second gopher hockey tattoo this year….and am hopeful myself and others will get to make a date for some ink April 2024!
