I was just watching some highlights from this past season. First off, regardless of the ending, what fun and incredible season. The team was so fun to watch and the cast of characters made them really easy to root for. Mariucci was full again and Gopher hockey was back to appointment viewing. Second, how lucky are we that this entire incoming class of 2022 is coming back. All of them, from high end draft picks like Cooley to meat and potatoes guys like Strobel got solid minutes last year and now have experience in all different types of in game scenarios both regular season and playoffs. So many of them playing with confidence and poise like upperclassmen. Especially down the stretch. I’m looking forward to hopefully watching all of them take another step forward in their development and also hopefully watching them lift a national championship next spring in St Paul. Not to discredit the guys who left this off season or any number of the very important players coming back or coming in who are not in this sophomore class, but the incoming class of ‘22 could be one of the most important and influential gopher hockey classes in recent history. Just with how many of them there are, the diversity of different types of players in this class, how much experience and talent they have after one season, and of course the fact that they are all coming back for at least one more year.
I for one am extremely excited for the St. Thomas game at the X. Something about college hockey at the X just does it for me. Absolutely love it.

Honestly I woukd consider going off of was a different opponent. St. Thomas does nothing for me.
I will watch on TV.

I mean I’m mainly going to watch the Gophers not the Tommies ? but I get what you mean. St. Thomas will be much better this year they loaded up in the portal. I’d watch the Gophers play Edina Squirt C but that’s just me.
I have seen so many games at the X (and worked there) that going there is not that big of a draw for me. In fact it is a pain in the butt sometimes. If I am going to go it needs to be a game I care about...like say the Frozen Four ;^)

It’s an “away” game made easily accessible to all Gopher fans. Why would one not take the opportunity to go?!

Because I would rather find a way to go to an actual away game against a team that I care about more? If I am going to pay money and deal with the hassles involved with going, I would rather it be some place better than Saint Paul...a place I could go to any time I want.
That is just my personal feelings on it. I honestly wonder how many people will actually go...
A LOT more than St Thomas would otherwise get for a home game, so it doesn't really matter as they are trying to maximize money. The Gophers used to host the Badgers for one of their home games at the Civic Center/Target Center back in the day and they had great crowds as the ticket was included as part of the season ticket package. St Thomas would be smart to try to make it easy for Gopher season ticket holders to have EASY and cheap tickets for this event. Send an email with a link for tickets or even work it out with the U to bill directly if they want to add this game to their Gopher season ticket package with a guarantee for a lower bowl seat. It’s an “away” game made easily accessible to all Gopher fans. The real Gopher Hockey fans will. 😉
I think its a smart decision and opportunity to potentially skate on the ice before the Frozen 4.
I plan to go to both games. I hope we play the Tommies on a fairly regular basis. The Gopher vs UST matchup wont develop into a legit rivalry if we don't start playing each other, so better to start it now than wait any longer, especially when a Home and Home is so easy logistically.
imho it will never become a rivalry unless they join the B1G. Beyond that I hope the NC schedule remains more diverse than as to lock in UST every year which would be the absolute minimum to manufacture a rivalry.

i hope it never remotely resembles a rivalry and we absolutely obliterate them the few times we play

They will make it easy. Gopher season ticketholders get access to the presale the same date the UST season ticket holders do on on Monday, August 14th.
For those who were slightly concerned that Cooley changed his profile photo on instagram to him in a Coyotes jersey, he has changed it back to wearing a Gophers jersey. ( not that it really means anything either way )

I saw this on the web posted on another site. Tried to take a screen shot the best I could.. The person said it came from a fundraiser brochure.

Looks really cool if they decide to go that direction!!

I know it’s just da beauty league but that first step already looks quicker than last year. Great to see. He’ll be carrying a lot of the mail on the backend this year.

When we talked with Tom Betti about the phase two part of the project he's been working towards, these were the possible upgrades suggested. Traditionally premium seating has less fluctiation in sales than regular seating, so they're trying to envision how make a unique seating section opposite the students. Also the concourse could use some updates to keep pace with the other sporting venues in the Twin Cities.
I'd imagine if the arena has a successful two years of ticket sales, then this update could happen after the Ridder Arena refrigeration update is done.
According to Jesse Pierce, nhl writer for the Wild and bar down beauties podcast, the big ten is trying to play its conference tournament at Xcel next March, I heard this on the Skor North Wild podcast they have.
I mean I’m all for that cause I’m a sucker for college hockey at the X, but I thought they had a good thing going selling out home barns every year.
@maroon_and_gold this. Hate the idea. Love the home campus thing and you deserve the advantage if you’re winning throughout the season. Plus it makes for a better atmosphere. You’re not going to see much of anyone travel here for it from the other B10 schools
Yeah I hope that doesn't happen.
I think it has more to do with the tournament format than anything else, big ten coaches want to be playing games not getting one-two weeks off before ncaas depending upon how you fare in league tournament.
They already sold ticket packages for the three weekend format so I can’t imagine they’d change it yet for this year. The U does not like to give money back.
Any word on if they’re going to add at least one more forward to the roster? They only have thirteen right now. Or will they possibly just move a defenseman up to the fourth line if they are in a pinch. Still some time to add a player but it’s already July 23.
I would almost guarantee they add a player but it’s getting kind of late…
Hoping to have a few more home games down the stretch this season. We’ve been lucky to be home on the last weekend the past few years and maybe I’m being a little picky but hopefully our home weekends are a little more spread out this year.

I would favor rewarding the league's top finishers from the previous year with final-weekend home stands. It won't happen, but it would be a nice perk for win-place-show.
How do people think Bob should handle the Kurth/Lamb “predicament”? Both are deserving of top 9 minutes but only one can slot in at a time based on how the lineup projects. I’d suggest splitting a series one game each but then you run the risk of neither one of them really gaining any chemistry.
I am not convinced Nevers is more deserving than those two of a top 9 role. It will be interesting to see how Bob handles it. I hope he gives them split playing time also.
Hahaha contrary to popular opinion on GPL!

I am convinced. Nevers is such a smart player that compliments 24 and 22 so well. That line clicked so well that I doubt Bob breaks it up.

As much as I want to see a Moore-Cooley-Snuggerud line the potential to have Cooley-Moore-Nelson-Huglen as your top 4 centers is pretty intriguing and that way they could spread things out a little more and not really have a “top 9” so to speak. I’m a Huglen fan but maybe having him get some lower line matchups will get him going a bit too.
Something like this-
Lamb-Cooley-Snuggerud
Pitlick-Moore-Kurth
Pinoniemi-Nelson-Brodzinski
Nevers-Huglen-Mittelstadt
Strobel
Doubt he plans on shaking it up that much when he basically returns 13 of the 14 forwards off last years prolific offensive team. Why shake it up if the chemistry is already there? The way I see it is:
X-Cooley-Snuggerud
Pitlick-Huglen-X
Nevers-Nelson-Brodzinski
Pino/Strobes/-Mittelstadt-X
The three X’s being Moore, Lamb and Kurth. Moore will obviously be top 6 which imo either means LW on the top line or centering the second line. 77-11(Moore)-7 would be a seriously dangerous second line.

I was just addressing the Kurth/Lamb “predicament” that you asked about. If they don’t shake up the lines at all then they would just be in the same spot as last year. The lines I posted aren’t necessarily what I think they will or should be, just a scenario to get Kurth/Lamb more minutes.
I think Bob should do what he normally does and mix and match until he finds something that works. Everything should be in play aside from it's probably a no-brainer to keep 81 and 92 together
He wouldn't have this issue if he had just retired like was suggested! The game has passed him by I hear! ? ?

I don't know what is the deal with NHL.com, but whenever I open a link I get a giant NHL logo that is larger than my screen and the website links in list form down the left side of my screen. That website is unusable for me. (Chrome and Edge)
It must be that it doesn't like my Windows version or something similar.

would expect you’ll see Kurth skating with 77/7 and Lamb on the 4th line with Moore pairing with 92/81. Lamb seemed to come on at seasons end so maybe if he’s really blossomed he could make the jump but idk if he has the speed and puck retrieval to fill a Knies type role with the first liners so I think they go raw speed and keep Moore there. I guess maybe Bob goes with Lamb to add some size on the second line, but I think he really likes his checking and shot blocking on the 4th line group
It was a nice run...
