I'm becoming more and more a Carl Fish fan. From his freshman year to now. Just wish he would get more reps. Cause he's steadily approves after each game he gets to play.

Keep your stick on the ice...

Same here. I get the impression he’s a glue guy, well liked amongst the team. I imagine Bob would have no worries playing him if either 2 and/or 71 aren’t ready for the semi’s.

Knies continues to lead in the fan voting. Faber and LaCombe remain in the top 10.

This is the 2nd time I've seen this mentioned - are Toronto fans for some reason more vested in a 1% vote for Hobey than any other? Maybe I'm missing the joke...

I said it tongue-in-cheek with how Toronto fans think they are the greatest. But I wouldn't be surprised if they are helping vote.

Also its just that there are a lot of Toronto Maple Leaf fans and they make their presence known online.

On youtube & twitter I see a lot of Toronto based Knies posts/discussion.

P.S. Toronto is a sneaky big city

Toronto’s GM with high praise for the staff. Can we send this directly to Cooley, his agent, and the Arizona GM? Grinning

Clearly the Toronto GM agrees that the best thing for Matthew Knies and the Maple Leafs is for him to stay with the Gophers for two more years. ? ?

Could you image if the top line all came back next season? ? The rest of college hockey. ?

They are only 20, 18, and 18 years old. Cooley turns 19 in May, Snuggy turns 19 in June so they would be 20, 19 and 19 at the start of next season.

A couple of notes from Bob's show tonight--

Pino should be back at practice this week

He sounded optimistic that LaCombe and Chesley COULD be back for next weeks game.

After he talked about the Seniors, he said a COUPLE could be back next year.

This would seem to suggest that it's Closer and Brodzinski or Nelson. LaCombe, Johnson, or Schmidt being back would be shocking.

Per ESPN, apparently Toronto has taken a hard-line stance and is telling other teams Knies is off limits in any trade.

I'd suspect he's not truly off limits.  As with anything, it's always a matter of price.  That kind of statement does say "it's a REALLY high price"

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Been saying this since November. At the time Nelson was producing too well to not sign at the end of the year, but now, I could see him using his Covid year and wearing the C. I also maintain the sentiment that if they get Nelson to return they should also get Bryce to return. That whole second line coming back would be awesome.

While I agree with the sentiment that Nelson or Brodz arguably should be given the opportunity (if they choose) to return for their Covid 5th year, very doubtful tBob would oblige them…since Laffer has been only 5th player  to date. ☝️

Coach seems to be warming up to the idea of bringing back players for a 5th year.

The main reason he hasn’t is because he doesn’t want to lose or further delay (and risk losing) recruits in exchange for a player’s 5th year. They’ll be short up front next year and don’t have enough recruits coming in to solve it, so it’s either portal or 5th year. If Nelson and Brodzinski were players in the portal Bob wouldn’t hesitate to pick them up. Why not keep them around one more year?

Gophers are down to +330 to win the title.

EDIT: yes, I know future bets are not good value at all. But the Gophers are definitely the favorites this season.

Here is a projected NCAA bracket from ECH based on last weekend's results.  Obviously things will change, but this is pretty reasonable, all things considered.

In 2003 a poster named Don King wrote a story called "Why Follow Gopher Hockey".  I've always enjoyed it and I've had a printout hanging in my office for almost 20 years now.  I thought it was worth posting again for those who weren't around to read it (or had forgotten it).  Don was the Zamboni driver at Mariucci at the time.  I hope he doesn't mind the re-post.

Why Follow Gopher Hockey?
By “Don King”

You ask me why I love Gopher Hockey.  I ask you if there was any other choice.  Maybe if I had grown up in Detroit or Boston or Orono, Maine; then maybe I would not be a Gopher fan today.  But I grew up in Minnesota, and despite what North Dakota or Duluth or Mankato fans would have you believe, there is really no other option than to become a Gopher fan.  North Dakota may be a successful hockey program.  Duluth may have its rabid fans.  Mankato may be very important to the people of that city.  But Gopher hockey has meant so much more than that to me.  It’s watching the first two periods of the game on MSC, then straining to pick up the third period on your alarm clock radio after your parents have sent you to bed.  It’s attending games in the new Mariucci Arena, wishing that you had memories of the old arena when it was still Williams Arena Ice Rink. It’s John Mariucci, and John Mayasich, and the photos of the teams going back too many years for anyone to have seen them all.  It’s Herb Brooks, prowling the bench, leading three teams to titles.  It’s Doug Woog, leading the team first as a player and then as a coach, leading them to a period of sustained greatness the likes of which today’s program can only dream about.  It’s Randy Skarda, hitting the post in overtime, and just how the heck did that weak backhander beat Stauber?  It’s Neal Broten and the Hobey, Robb Stauber, and the Hobey, Brian Bonin, and yes, Jordan Leopold.  It’s the murals, where Leopold skates next to Crowley and Stauber makes a save on Woog.  It’s the fact that nobody’s going to be wearing number 8 in maroon and gold on the ice anytime soon.  It’s Broten chipping one over Iwabucci, Potulny sliding one under Yeats, it’s all the trophies in the concourse, so many nobody knows exactly what they’re all there for anymore.  It’s five gold banners, hanging over the east goal, spanning sixty-three years of champions.

But maybe most importantly, it’s the five-year-olds I see at the rink on Saturday mornings, when no one’s in the building except me and them, and they all know me as the kid who’s driving the Zamboni.  They play their games, and I see them warming up, skating the length of the ice (taking far too long) and faking this way and sliding one in and, hey, just maybe, if they were a little bigger, they would have looked just like Tyler Hirsch beating Wade Dubielewicz.  And then maybe the make their first visit to the rink later that night, getting their first close-up look at the arena.  Wow, Dad, how many guys are on that wall?  Why are they up there?  Dad, who’s going to be up there next?  Hey, Grandpa, how many of these guys did you see play?  How many banners are there up in the rafters, anyway?  There sure are a lot.  Why do all those kids say the same things after the other guys get a penalty, why do they all yell point at the goalie and yell?  What do you mean you can’t tell me?  Hey, Dad, we scored!  What did everyone just say after the band stopped playing?

And then Dad leans over to his son, as my father did to me, and maybe he wants to tell him about all the goals he’s seen, all the great players he’s watched, all of the championships he’s watched when he saw HIS team play this game, and what a game it is.  Maybe he wants to teach him the words to the Rouser and the Minnesota March, and tell him exactly how his dad reacted when Grant Potulny picked up Jordan Leopold’s shot after it deflected off Johnny Pohl, how Grant picked it up and slid it under Matt Yeats and the whole state of Minnesota went berserk.  But he doesn’t have time for all that.  He knows that his son will pick that up in time, that soon, for his son, that game and the team will be the son’s and not just the father’s.  Instead, he just sums it all of it up in one sentence, with one word.

Instead, he just leans over and teaches him how to spell M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A.

Just the chime in on this topic... during his radio pre-game on Saturday it was thrown out by Motzko that Close, Stadaucher and Brodzinski will all have the option to come back next year.

This is a great interview and after listening it's no surprise that Faber is a captain.  Well spoken, smart and imho he was pretty cliche-free.

Side question - is there any video out there of the sequence that led to the double-majors on Saturday vs. OSU?
