Interesting. Even a sweep of PSU I wouldn't think would lift the Gophers' RPI high enough to guarantee coming in ahead of QU. Three wins in the next two weekends likely would, but just a sweep of PSU could leave it close in the scenario of getting swept by OSU, then losing the B1G Semifinal game.
I definitely agree with Adam's "without a collapse" comment. I'd say that my nightmare scenario above would qualify.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Yep exactly. Barring any collapse. The thing is Quinnipiac isn’t playing anyone good enough to gain any serious ground. Not to mention if, heaven forbid, they lose a game. Then they got no chance at the 1 seed.
There are just so many interacting pieces, and it does require the Gophers to stay ahead of QU in the RPI. I just can't tell if a sweep of PSU is enough to ensure that happens or not.Interesting. EDIT: To be clear, I think three more wins by the Gophers in pretty much any combination would be enough, and I think they'll do that with a one or two to spare.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Put it this way. A sweep of PSU puts them in a really really good position.
I’d think the loss to WI will serve as a wake up call and provide tBob necessary leverage to motivate the team. They’ll get a #1 seed in a Regional. Then things get interesting, Tampa or bust for the season to end on a successful note.Put it this way. A sweep of PSU puts them in a really really good position.
Lots of good info in this. They are re-numbering rows etc.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Per CHN's simulations, Gophers are basically a lock for a top 3 pairwise finish.
#1 overall 73%
#2 Overall 24%
#3 Overall 3%
https://www.collegehockeynews.com/ratings/probabilityMatrix.php
Yep. So a sweep at #5 Penn State would essentially lock up the #1 overall barring anything crazy.
And, it looks like no wholesale re-seating again, which is a very good thing. Now my seat will be high enough that I should be able to see over the goalie, instead of having to look around him.Lots of good info in this. They are re-numbering rows etc.

Is ice level going to be lower? If so I don’t know how they can claim sight lines will be the same if we are technically two rows higher from the ice level than we are now.
Are there any updated schematics of this project posted anywhere?
We'll be two levels farther up, but not farther back. The only place the sightlines on the end won't be effectively the same is right next to the boards (obviously less so for me than you).
Not seeing any schematics, but the link in that tweet show what changes in each section. The very end sections, no actual change other than re-numbering the rows. The corner sections will get one row each added, with the sides getting two rows each.

I assume the rink will be narrower, but the same lenght. If correct that should mean two or three rolls added on the sides. I assume the first row behind the net will now be elevated?
I was there in 1976, 1979 and 2002.
Not a bad view in Mariucci. I’m sure that will hold true after the renovations.

A few things: winning 3 of the last 4 essentially locks up the #1 overall seed. A sweep at Penn State would definitely do it.
The #1 overall seed is all but guaranteed to play the Atlantic champ barring a scenario where RIT wins the Atlantic and maybe a Hockey East team not named BU, Northeastern or UConn wins the tournament. Same could be said about UMD in the NCHC.
In all bracketologies I’ve seen we get sent to Fargo. Only if we get paired up with Penn State (they fall to the 8 seed) would we get sent out east to Allentown.
not going to lie. having the one nearly locked with a few weeks to go is very impressive. Would be huge to get that spot and hopefully propel this team into Tampa.

Listen to this podcast with Pat Micheletti. Pat basically confirms the rink will be shrunk down to 8,000 capacity after temporarily being bumped up to 12,000 next year. I don’t think Pat knows that that isn’t public information. First I’m hearing of it at least.

Why drop to 8000?
The release sent out by the U had this to say in its release today. I don't think Pat is correct.
Reducing the competition ice sheet at 3M Arena at Mariucci will also allow Gopher Athletics to add additional fan seating for current season-ticket holders or new ones. Beginning in the 2023-24 season, the capacity of 3M Arena at Mariucci, which has been 10,000, is expected to increase by 200-300 seats. As a result, every section in the main seating bowl will be affected, although some of the changes will be minor

It doesn't make sense. The concourse has plenty of room.

It's even more impressive when you consider every conference has 5 weeks left either 3 regular season weeks and 2 conference playoff weeks (the NCHC and Hockey East) or 2 regular season weeks and 3 conference playoff weeks (the Big Ten, CCHA, ECAC, and Atlantic).

Yeah but then maybe they adjust the arena’s footprint to fit the new rink size? Idk just going off what Pat said. He is really close to the program obviously and would have access to this kind of information/knowledge.
As Frozen4champs said above I am pretty sure the 12,000 seats part is incorrect. I wouldn’t be surprised if they did ultimately shrink it to 8,000 though.
AE mentioned it might have been "Hibbing math". As though he had it in his head that 10,000 plus 200 equals "1,200" but it came out as "12,000". Both are goofs. ?
I'd be surprised that the U would ever consider reducing revenues, but they could theoretically replace the current seats with larger ones thusly reducing capacity to 8,000. Maybe the thought is that filling 100% of 8,000 more often than not is better than filling only 85% of 10,000.
May not happen this summer, but they do want to change some of the seating on the 1/24 side a bit. Could reduce the overall seating down a little, but not to 8k. At least I doubt that.

Agree that it is very unlikely the reduction to 8,000 is correct. Tickets sold for this year will average over 9K per game and there have been several 10K sellouts.
Perhaps some added unique club/VIP type options will reduce the # of seats slightly.
2023-2024 season ticket renewals are available to view. Our row number increased by 2 (section 8) and I'm confirming with the couple we sit next to (long time lurker, hi there C.A.!) that he's seeing something similar. Assuming they are the same seats just renumbered.....and I am looking forward to some banner raising celebrations in October!

GREAT. Two more rows of people moving around during play. What a bone-headed decision by the U! I am no longer a fan.

only if they can jack up the prices on an already expensive product.
Based on the announcement yesterday, that seems right. I'm very interested to see what they do in that section:2023-2024 season ticket renewals are available to view. Seat numbers remain the same. Row numbers change from 1-24 to 4-26. Season ticket seat locations for rows 3-6 (2022-23) are now in rows 4-7 and sightlines will remain the same. Season ticket seat locations for rows 7-24 (2022-23) are now in rows 9-26. Sightlines will be slightly higher from the 2022-23 season.

Yep! Was glad to see the ticket site matched the press release.
I will know at the first game if it's the same row and only renumbered; one of our seats has a "spring issue" so it leans back against the seat back. It's been like that for probably 10+ years and I'd be surprised if that got fixed this year but one never knows. ?

Closer named semi finalist

They didn't change the name to the McKay yet?
That seems like an odd list for the Richter. Only two of the goalies are in the top 10 of both GAA and SV.% - Perets and Pietila. Only Levi and Bischel have top 10 SV.% (#23 and 28 GAA respectively). Close is the only other goalie that has both numbers in the top 15 (12, 14).
Levi only makes sense due to winning last year. There are some that just don't belong (GAA, SV%) - Chrona (16, 24), Dobes (19, 18), Gibson (22, 19), Ostman (17, 16).
Based on pure stats, which is not always everything, Latkozy (2, 1), Basse (6, 11), and Evenson (10, 7) would be much more worthy choices than some of the others.
I just rewatched the 3rd period of Saturdays game looking for a possible Chesley injury. The only real hit he took was with about 7 minutes left when he was checked into the boards and his hands hit first. He played the rest of the game including being on the ice when the game ended. In the article, Jess said it happened at Wisconsin, and so it could have happened earlier in the game and he played through it known Faber was already out.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Chesley played through an injury. The kid’s gritty and as tough as nails. I’m glad he’s on our side and I hope he’s back soon.
Doom and gloom has hit our "friends" over on Gopherhole, including one who is ready to cancel his trip to Tampa...

Yeah I’ll stick to GPL thank you very much. Not at all surprised at who is one of the main contributors to the negativity over there. Is this a blow to the team? Absolutely. But as we’ve all pointed out, this team has a deep D corps and we still have a lot of both talent and experience both on the back end but also up top. Really need our forwards to help play some sound defense going here on out. It’s all hands on deck. The last few days haven’t been the prettiest part of the season but it’s time for the boys to dig deep and come together. Now we find out what we’re really made of.
Adversity builds champions. They weren’t just gonna cruise to the Frozen Four.

Couldn’t agree more! Nor would I want us to. That’s how teams who have been riding high all year get upset in the regionals.
No interest in going over there to read what he wrote but this jives with previous posts of his over the past ten years where he’s had a meltdown over something despite the team being #1 in the pairwise all year. Honestly think that guy has nothing else to live for it’s kinda sad.Yeah I’ll stick to GPL thank you very much. Faber getting hurt sucks but this team has a lot of depth on D, it’s probably the one position where they can afford to have someone go down and not see a major drop in performance.

I assumed so, too.
The fact bonin even considered going to TB is a major optimistic breakthrough for him.
