So are B1G+ cameras not as good as Bally?
this doesnt look good
Hopefully no concussion. How stupid in an exhibition game.
Any feedback on the quality of the ice? I would assume it's exceptional. We went to the Gopher game in AZ last year, and I've never seen such good ice.

They still have an exterior chilling unit outside. looked a little moist and soft on the end but I assume it will take a game or two to tweak.
Who needs Cooley and Knies when you have Pitlick and Moore? ?
Who took the shot to the head?
Yikes!
His helmet flew 15+ feet.

As Cowgirl mentions they need to do some fine-tuning. The ice stayed looking very wet 2-3 minutes into the game, long after the Zamboni left and even after the cheer team was on. My observations:
More on the ice, arena has fancy new shop vac things for the goal post holes, no squirt bottles. Dedicated vacs with super narrow nozzles that fit into the hole. Also they seem to have a new issue with the rink doors, they are hard to close. We watched one crew with a high pressure hose cleaning out ice from the track. It’s clearly a learning process, the new ice hasn’t been down very long.
No advertising behind our bench, but there is on the visiting side. Still waiting for a sponsor?
Huglen up in the team pressbox area…in a black cowboy hat ?
The new lights are really bright! The sound system is as crappy as ever.
The students showed up! Good for them. Now someone please teach them how to cheer!
Happy to see the band, especially after playing yesterday.
They didn’t look as good as the 5-2 score would indicate, but they got better each period. That elbow to the head was a cheap shot, I don’t know what Bemidji was complaining about? Was it because no penalty was called for the brawl?
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.
*gotta laugh*
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I don’t know what Bemidji was complaining about? Was it because no penalty was called for the brawl?
They hoped a Gopher threw a punch bad enough to warrant a penalty as well, the referees clearly didn’t find anything worthy of it.
I really hate the refs announcing penalties, they all sound like teachers from Peanuts cartoons.

Rinzel is going to be a very helpful player. Smooth skater and looks calm with the puck.
Kurth, Lamb, and Pitlick line looked really good
Regarding new rink: my wife and I liked the LED lights. Definitely a noticeable difference. The corners were still wet when they dropped the puck after resurfacing, they will need to get that ironed out.
Begley impressed me more than Rud as far as freshman defensemen. Obviously Rinzel is light years ahead of both.
I echo the sentiments above about the rink.
I’ll add that the new glass can be quite distorted to look through if not straight on. On the ends they put in some wider panes. I now have a seam directly in front of me; they have wide plastic connectors in the seam that you cannot see through and cause you to see double briefly as players skate past the field of view. ?♀️
We noticed several banners missing from the rafters; I guess some were causing shadows so they will need to rearrange.
The LED lights are BRIGHT! Do not stare at them. ? I noticed the ends of the ice looking darker. Curious how it all looked on tv?
The fanatics in arena store was….closed. They still had last years jerseys and apparel in there.
I’m curious other’s thoughts on their view compared to last year? Other than the seam in my sight line, I guess I forgot about the shrinkydink right quick.
It was great to be back, and I’m optimistic about this team. I hope Nevers is ok, and the other two are back sooner than later.
Jaime even gave us a Twins score update later in the game
oh yeah, and we had a stick salute after the swee….win
While I like them, I hope this is the last time I see them wear maroon as the home team in Mariucci.
The journey to the X in April starts at the X in less than a week….let’s do this, from the starting line to the finish line!
It might be the new lighting that made the TV view bad. I thought it was likely bad equipment causing the picture to be very shiny, but maybe not. It reminded me of TV coverage in Bemidji, where there was an annoying glare on screen.
The lights are terrible on the sides when you're down low. You're looking upwards at the players only to have the lights pointed right at your face. Baseball hats are required. Hopefully it just takes some getting used to, but it's bad.
the glass is a massive downgrade. It's warped to the point that it's like a fun house watching the game. I can't believe they said "yeah, this is Tier 1A quality this fanbase expects"
jerseys are excellent. The ads on the boards look better. From the ends of the arena it looks better than from the sides. Really hope they take a second look at several of these decisions. Pretty disappointed.
From every published article they say that this glass is the same that's used in every NHL rink. Does the X have the same issue? Are the fans just used to it? I don't remember hearing tons of complaints about the glass there.
The glass does get warped at an angle.

It was definitely not this bad previously. It even makes a distinctly different sound when hit by the puck. I imagine it’s an updated material of some sort. I know it’s supposed to be safer and is more flexible, so I imagine if it can be more bendy, that looking through it will be more bendy too…!
The bank of lights made the TV have a glare in certain areas of the rink-- in contrast to the old pendant lights which were basically evenly distributed throughout the rink. Other than that, TV was fine-- though when they would switch to different angles (for some reason they would swap to the pressbox view from time to time after being on the main view on the penalty box side which got confusing) the color differences because of the brightness was noticeable.
Seemed to me to be a shade darker than a typical NHL game, but by no means close to Magness or something.
I'll be honest, I'd trade extra stanchions if they can get rid of the curve.
From the side about halfway (the row formally known as 16) up the view was tremendous and I didn't notice anything weird with the glass but that's not surprising given the height. I enjoyed having light focused on the game but it took some getting used to.
The lights are bright, a quick glance up at the scoreboard and I really got hit by night blindness, but got used to it in a hurry.
I was shocked, SHOCKED!, the fanatics story was closed. Such a bottom feeder operation.
#5 is really, really, good. If he makes the same (unrealistic) jump he made from period one to periods two & three.....whoa Nelly!
They were definitely gripping their sticks in the first.

Ran in to Micheletti after the game, told him that the switching of sides in the middle of play was really bad. So hopefully he conveys that whenever the next student broadcast happens.

Was nice to watch Gopher Hockey again even if it was just an exhibition. Hope Nevers is ok, that hit was nasty. Any word?
View from our seats feels unchanged. We did move down two rows to keep our distance the same. Definitely brighter on the ice in arena for sure. We're in row 22 so the boards don't impact our view as it's always distorted in the near side far corner for us looking down when play is in the corner.
Last night felt like a trial run for everyone. No Fanatics store, Panini place couldn't make us a panini, none of the vendors at the ticket office end of the arena other than Kemps and Dominos, long concession lines for what was open.
Obviously a sparse crowd, but not really worse than what it felt like a few seasons back in season.
Hope Nevers is ok, I didn't see the hit, only the kerfuffle that followed. Watched it back and it was just so unnecessary.
Looked decent, don't love that our PP is a -1 on the season and couldn't get one on the 5-minute advantage. Hopefully just trying things out.
watched last night on BTN+ what is the space between the boards and the seats looked like media area to be able to take video from it looked very strange to me it was only on one side of the rink
Aloha!
The glass does get warped at an angle.
Our seats are in SEC 15, row 7 (formerly row 5). Looking left, I've never been able to see all the way down to the left corner, so that's normal. I don't mind, because I like sitting close to the net at an angle.
HOWEVER, I've always been able to look through the glass with minimal distortion to approximately halfway down the rink, to about center ice in front of the penalty boxes. Now, that view is about as bad as Comcast's Bally Sports programming. It's so distorted, it's shocking to me that anyone would want this glass over the old glass. Very disappointing.

I would say he's gonna be a good one, but he already is!

My seat neighbor (the always lurking Cliff ?) and I were discussing him after the 2nd, we were both reminded of an another tall dman from 30 some years ago wearing #5.

Are all the concession stands credit card only, like the Kemps?
If the Never's check goes to the CCHA front office. Personally, I would like to see the CCHA suspend the kid for 2 games. Set the example for the rest of the NCAA conferences. Make a precedent of the play and try to curve some of these foolish hits.

Yes, I saw several signs around the concourse that said the arena is now cashless. Bring your CC for that Maui Wowie

Really liked what I saw from Kurth, Lamb, and Pitlick. Constantly buzzing, working hard, and getting rewarded for it. The sloppy play by the team in the first was understandable. I would have been concerned if it had lasted the whole game but they shook the rust off and I thought were overall very solid in periods two and three. I know it’s just the first game of the year but just like last year this team looks like they really enjoy playing for and with each other. One other thing I’ve been watching for, including during the game last night, was Snuggerud’s attitude and body language. To be clear, I never thought that he was going to have a bad attitude or not want to be here. But, to be completely fair to the kid, it had to be a little tough coming back this year without Cooley and Knies. Especially with Cooley leaving so late. I mean, those were his boys and that line was sensational last year. But he has continued to be a stud and carry himself like a vet even though he’s only a sophomore. Good work by him. Otherwise, some things to tinker with but let’s get/keep everyone healthy and get ready for an exciting season.

Most to all stadiums are going cashless.

I believe all venues are now cashless (Huntington Bank, Mariucci, Williams, Ridder, etc.)
I believe the Gophers had something like 3 or 4 shots after the first and finished the game around 40. They definitely picked it up which is good to see. I hope Nevers being out is a cautionary thing against St. Thomas and he’s back ready to go against North Dakota.

Did you watch the game or are you going to play devils advocate which you are so notorious for.
Keep your stick on the ice...
He flat out head-hunted a guy in an exhibition game. It was a dirty hit.
I haven't been able to see the hit in slow motion enough to judge whether or not there was contact to the head. Bob was clearly pissed off in the post-game presser, but that could be as much about it being an exhibition as it being illegal. The poor replay I watched it looked like it could go either way, but others might have been able to see a more definitive review.

Thanks. Hope he listens and can say something to get it improved. BTN+ was disappointing. Switching camera angles way too often, and the switching between cameras on different sides of the rink was really confusing the first couple times.
After years of having most broadcasts on FSN, Balley etc and more recently B1G, it is disappointing to have to stream so many games. Seems like a step backwards for Gopher Hockey (another strike on top of the late loss of Cooley, the apparent lack of recruiting success this year so far perhaps due to NIL, etc. - sky falling a little) to have tougher access. Now they are just like a lot of other programs in that regard. Less potential future recruits to just stumble on Gopher games on TV and become fans. In past I could DVR games (used to be VCR even long after most people had thrown theirs out) and join late and skip over period breaks and commercials. I joined late yesterday and it was only letting me join live. I scrolled back and it took me to 30 -40 minutes before game. About 5 tries later I got to the start of game. Then I tried pausing after first period to finish cooking dinner, only to come back to the game being off and jumping me to live (so I knew about 2 goals before I saw them.) Then apparently when game ended in real time, my feed stopped and I had to re-join again and find my spot. Probably why App is like 2.5 stars. I didn't think image quality was great either.
@mikeeruzione11 These kind of "intentional" cheap shots should be penalized where the Player who did it should stay out at least as long as the injured player. This behavior is not acceptable & needs to punished accordingly. Kind of an "eye for an eye".
I think the RSN (Bally's) sports model of more linear TV is about dead right now, and it isn't because they were incapable of good production.
Rather, the economics just don't work in this day and age. We are back either to your KITN-29 that roars or streaming options, and neither are as good as what we had, unfortunately.
But at least everything for us will be streamed. That is the best you can ask for.
@slap-shot There is an angle from the other side that shows it was a clear shot to the head. I tried to post the link from X! showing the video, but it was automatically removed by the system.
