Sparty leads the B1G with 34 points, while the Gophers are in 4th with 23. Huge series if the Gophers want to try to catch Sparty in the standings.
The Gophers tied (lost in shootout) and won in OT, on a Jimmy Clark goal, earlier this season.

Been a while since I’ve said this about the East Lansing trip but I’d be happy with a split. Sweep and we likely vault ourselves into the top 5 pairwise.
This should be one hell of a series.
Michigan State is one of the most penalized teams in the country, 2nd out of 64 to be exact. Pair that with their below average PK (34/64) and the Gophers power play (6th nationally) and I smell a recipe for success.
I’ve got a feeling that their run-ins with the Wolverines inflate their penalty minute numbers a bit. I’d take a split and run.
Maybe they can see what Michigan did to break through offensively on tape and do better, though.
If the Gophers start Friday fast I will feel a lot better about our chances. I like the way the played against Ohio State, but they are average at best.

The stats for both teams are very similar-
PP% -- Gophers 27.3, MSU 27.1
PK% -- Gophers 79, MSU 81.1
FO% -- Gophers 50.3, MSU 49.5
GPG -- Gophers 3.7, MSU 4.3
GAA -- Gophers 2.7, MSU 3.1
MSU has 6 players over 20 points, the Gophers have 5
MSU does take a lot more penalties, even by throwing out the 94 minutes vs Michigan, they still have over 100 more minutes than the Gophers. The Gophers are the 8th least penalized team in the country, and MSU is 2nd most.

Will be interesting to see if we win penalty differential in the road, that’s typically easier to do at home. Wanna say we matched five and a game with them the first time we played and then they might’ve done the same in game 2? I forget. Should be fun to watch though because MSU just kinda throws the kitchen sink at you on offense and it makes for exciting back and forth hockey.
They sure give up a lot of goals for a team that has Trey Augustine in net. 42nd out of 64 in GAA.
I have a good feeling about this weekend. Justen Close needs to step up.
I think this whole team needs to step up. 🤫it gets real this weekend!
From Bob's presser today--
Bob briefly talked about the Snuggy spear. Said he hadn't seen anything like that since 1980. Really didn't have anything more to say about it. He didn't seem upset or have a reaction to the punishment.
Vegoe asked Bob about the regionals. Bob really didn't seem to care either way as long as he is in it. Said last year in Fargo was great, but he has been in a few bad ones too. The Frozen Fours are great again as well. Just tell him to go and he will show up.

Is this press conference available online anywhere?
It was carried live on The Rink Live YouTube page. Although it is not on there now, sometimes it is added to their page later.

Just a warning for anyone watching tomorrow on BTN+, the State student announcers, while they try their best, aren’t very good. Prepare to sync up with Wally and Frank if you are able.
Have fun at the game... FYI... don't stand up in the last row. A player's dad might attack you.

The 135-50-17 series dominance is what really stands out vs. Sparty.

16 straight games without a loss vs. any team is also very impressive
Cal Thomas is quietly having a nice year. Not a lot of points but a ton of blocked shots, solid +/- (I know…I know), playing solid D so 5 or 71 can jump into the play, etc.

The thing is, in Thomas' role, +/- becomes meaningful, simply because he's the "stay at home defenseman" you need out there to allow the Rinzels and Chesleys on the team to get in farther to create offense.Cal Thomas is quietly having a nice year. B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Thomas was one of my top 3 fav. (LaCombe & Huglen) players last year. He's probably my fav. play this year along with Huglen.

121-50-5 prior to the streak.
I'm assuming you meant to say 121-50-15 prior to the streak. Otherwise, the math doesn't quite add up.

For me this weekend I just want to play Saturday for a sweep... not a split.

So you do want the Gophers to win tonight? For me this weekend I just want to play Saturday for a sweep... not a split.
A 7 a.m. start for me is nearly perfect. Although flipping the Fri and Sat times would be even better. Yes I realize a 3 pm start on a Friday is not ideal on your end.
Big test for the boys this weekend. Let’s go Gophs!
Definitely excited for this one! Hopefully the boys can live up to Vegoe’s prediction.

Looks like a sweep to me!
Win Friday so I’m not clenching my cheeks on Saturday
I have a hunch the Huglen line will have a big weekend!

Tighten up the ice time for the defenseman. The top 5 can handle some extra minutes.
If that pregame is any indication, the announcers will be brutal.
Koster 1-0.

Pretty sloppy first period for both teams. Not sure if the ice is that shitty or what, but the puck is bouncing like a tennis ball out there. Could be the stream too. I’ll take the 1-0 lead though.

didn't see the pregame crew, but I am guessing the guys in between periods were the same. They are bad. The announcers are OK. MUCH better than the two they had calling the series in Michigan this year.
Gophers pressuring in the offensive zone but need to get more shots get to the front of the net. Need some rebound shots. Decent defense by both teams in the first.
is the ice super wet? Weird start to the 2nd
Ollie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

Snuggy with some sweet stick handling and then sets up Moore with a sick back handed pass. 👍
