Ohio State has a 5 on 3 for a 1:48 but the Gopher PK kills it off.
Love seeing the PK doing well.
Chesley 6-0.

Chesley (his 7th of the season) from Snuggy 6-0
The defensemen are on fire!!!
Defensemen just piling up goals tonight
The defensemen have 20 goals this season in 24 games.
The defensemen two years ago had 30 goals in 40 games.
PK stays flawless on the night
edit: well damn. Can’t take that many penalties even if that last one was soft
Fontaine 1-6, PPG.

Got to make that save. 😉
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
Capi… msg. board… GPL?!?!?!
Keep your stick on the ice...
Game over, Gophs win 6-1.

So are y’all back safely off the ledge now? 😁
The Gophers give Ohio State their first home loss of the season. Coming into tonight they had 10 wins (one was an exhibition) and 1 tie at home.

The Ohio State goalie coming into today was 2nd in the country in goals against average at 1.46 per game.
The Gophers scored 5 goals on him in less than 34 minutes sending him to the showers early.
Kind of a dumb penalty by 71 or we would have had a shutout.
The expected goals yesterday was Gophers 3.8 Ohio State 2.8
The expected goals today was Gophers 3.1 Ohio State 2.3
Yesterday we didn't bury our chances today we did.
Most games we do which is why we lead the nation in goals 98 (Denver is 2nd with 79) and regulation wins 17 (Michigan State and Denver are 2nd with 15). Three of Michigan State's wins are in 3 on 3 OT which only count as 2/3 of a win for the RPI portion of Pairwise. The Gophers have one 3 on 3 OT win.

Maybe Chesley wants Airey to play so he couldn't allow Souliere to get the shut out. 😉

I wish this would have been mentioned during the broadcast.

The goal scoring has been great. The gophers have played more games that other high scoring teams so the total goals is a favorable stat, but goals per game is still clearing all other teams easily. I’ve been thinking recently….imagine if this team had Cole Eiserman and Rhett Pitlick.

who would we not have then? 🤔
Johnny Mitts isn't in the lineup and maybe Mason Nevers isn't given/doesn't come back for a 5th year.
Its also possible there wouldn't have been scholarship money available to get Wood to transfer here.
Not disagreeing.... but the DEFINITION of dumb penalty has to be Wood with the piggyback ride on the O State player. What on Earth was THAT???
Love the dominating win but the effort on Friday is annoying af. You don't get a next game when you do that in the tournament.
I hear ya, every team has games like that though for whatever reason. Effort was part of the problem for sure given what we saw today but their goalie also stood on his head while Airey got kinda unlucky and didn’t make as many big saves early on. Then Nevers took the penalty to negate much of a 5 min PP and instead of it potentially being 2-1 it quickly became 3-0 after they got an extended PP and the game was basically over. The dude Nevers tripped definitely pulled a Robbie Earl but that was a really bad penalty to take given the situation. I think the gophers maybe could’ve maybe played their way back into that one if things went slightly different but it wasn’t in the cards.
Tonight’s game was the polar opposite with the team getting an early lead against a defense first team. Souliere was outstanding and their goalie messed up behind the net to gift the gophers a goal. The better team played to their capabilities and dominated.
Bout as perfect of a response as you wanted/expected last night
Bout as perfect of a response as you wanted/expected last night
It was. The team on Friday night is the one that could be an early out in March. The team on Saturday could be a national title team.
It all starts in the net, and Souliere was super confident and athletic last night. That sets the tone and gives the team a huge lift.
I agreed with Motzko and felt that the boarding call on Cheslea was horrible. It was a one-handed, glancing push on a shoulder, causing the player to fall, which apparently rises to the level of a penalty in college hockey.
It was a brutal call on Chesley

probably not a penalty if the score is 3-1 instead of 6-0. Refs were pretty quick on the whistle on anything on MN when the score was more lopsided. The Wood penalty was also of that sort, though hard to really know what he’s doing (or the OSU player for that matter).
That is one way to view it. Wood literally hung on the players back and did not get off while he continued to skate away. I am completely baffled as to what he was thinking. At first I though his stick must be caught up somehow but did not not appear to be the case, and even if it was, drop the stick. Seriously a brain dead moment if I saw one last night (or ever?). The Chesley penalty was complete garbage. Also not sure what the refs were doing with the call on Ohio when play continued after a trip by them and they had the puck for several seconds before any call was made. Left everyone including the refs stumped. Call was for something much earlier. Really nice bounceback by the Gophers though and Souliere looked great. The one goal they scored was on a shot they had been trying all night that he was ready for, hit got deflected high off our defender. No fault there.

I think he was trying to call and interference call and thought he’d either fall off or the guy would fall down, rather than carry him. Think earlier in the game or a closer one they tell him to get up and we move on. Chesley hit isn’t a penalty in any way. The tripping call that they took a shot after the penalty was baffling and bad officiating. Would’ve been quite something had they scored on that shot.
team looks much calmer with Souliere back there and he looks line the Junior version of himself. He’s got a little bit of that flash and is clearly an athletic guy who seems to move much better laterally than Airey. To me, he’s shown he’s the guy for your playoff run but also can get letting it continue to run as long as both guys are locked in and supporting each other until it gets closer

110%
What did I miss?
He mentioned that he’s heard from fans on Gopher message boards on how good of a mood Bob has been in this year.
This was just after the boarding call on Chesley. If he made other mentions I missed them.
That's what I was referring to. Missed the 1st period while at a friend's holiday party. Second period I heard on the radio and third at home on BTN.
Keep your stick on the ice...
The first five mins of the game and first goal were missed due to wrasslin, glad I recorded the game so I could FF past that.
I'd go with a 4th line of Eiserman Pitlick and MittsThe expected goals yesterday was Gophers 3.8 Ohio State 2.8
The expected goals today was Gophers 3.1 Ohio State 2.3

Respectfully disagree there on the Wood penalty. Seriously, you are riding on someones back for about 8-10 seconds and think that isn't some kind of infraction?? For absolutely NO REASON? Super dumb and completely not necessary. That might be the stupidist penalty I have seen in a long time. He did not have the puck, you are sitting on his back, he is trying to keep skating. How may ways can we spell idiot. Players have their moments for sure but that was a DUH

watch it again (I did as I was trying to figure out what the hell happened live). It’s 3 seconds. The guy backs into him to obstruct him (common, no issue from me as they had let it go all weekend) and he pushes him in the back which pushes the OSU player under him and then wood makes no effort to get off him but I’m guessing wasn’t thinking the guy would hold him up for another 2 seconds (the OSU guy takes no strides trying to get away). It’s stupid and unnecessary absolutely I agree based on the time of the game. Purely saying i could see it going uncalled in a closer game but up 5, don’t be dumb and get in that position
Good response after the dud Friday night. OSU is a good team wouldn't be surprised if we see them later in the year.
Yeah watched it again. Still seems super dumb to me. He is on the guys back and does not get off? Sorry there was no reason to ride that player like a donkey and absolutely obvious penalty for no reason. You have to have better game awareness than THAT. Come on

agree with you 100%. Very weird play that looked super odd live and it’s why I went back and watched it as I assumed they got tangled up, but he kind of just laid on him for some weird reason. In any regard, very happy it didn’t bite them then as up that big, that’s the only way you let a team get back on you if you’re otherwise sound. PK still needs some work though the 5v3 was well done with some good goaltending. They seem more passive but clearly Miss Nelsons face offs and stuck in cutting down lanes. Stylistically feels like something needs to change as they’re giving up way too easy of puck movement in zone
This team can do one of two things. Cough up games for no reason or win it. I know am oversimplifying the game but it reallu comes down to that. There have been times they look unbeatable adn times they look pretty meh. They need ro establish their identity. Choose who you are boys
