Battle of 2 top 10 teams in the pairwise. Gophers are tied for 1st in the B1G, while OSU is in 3rd.
Bob said postgame on Saturday he doesn't know about the status of the injured players, but said he will know more on Monday.
* Note the early start time on Friday and the game is streamed only.

This series is definitely bigger than I thought it would be a month ago.
Big series on tap - glad 11 & 74 will be back
Every time they play at OSU I'm always reminded of two things... 1) Regardless of how good OSU is, there never seems to be a lot of people in that rink... and 2) I don't know why but that game where we scored 6 goals on the PP always comes to mind... its been a few years now but still clear as day to me.
Will be great having Moore and Ziemer back, hopefully at least one of Nevers, Thomas, and Falloon can return as well.
Per Bob's radio show--
Nevers is ready to go, but was home sick on Monday.
Bob feels they are rounding 3rd base as far getting players back from injuries. He did not give any specifics on who will be ready next.

I've thought that Michel has played very well filling in for the injuries that we have had this season. He seems to have a good work ethic and a little grit to his play. I am wondering if it has been good enough to stay in the lineup when everyone is back healthy. What are some of your thoughts?

I love the feel good story of Michel and he has done admirably filling in, but if everyone is healthy I’d be shocked if he sees the ice. He just doesn’t have the skill/ability of the rest of our forward groups.
When fully healthy probably not but he’s done a good job.
From the Strib story today.
Gophers: No. 3 Minnesota (17-3-2, 8-1-1 Big Ten) is tied atop the Big Ten standings with Michigan State. Injured forwards Mason Nevers and August Falloon returned to practice this week, and Motzko was optimistic that he’d have a full roster available.

I slept on OSU’s work in the portal. Their top line has ~50% of their scoring. Top 3 skaters in points came via portal.
Interested to see the coaching staff’s strategy with the line matchup.
Need to stay out of the box.

they’ll have last change so much of that will be limited. Tbh i feel much better this year that all of our lines can play defense and if Thomas is back I feel very good about our defense being fine up and down the lineup.
splits on the road are fine against top 20 teams, but cautiously optimistic in looking for more against a team we have been 15-2-1 in the last 18 while fully acknowledging they’re a different team this year

Very optimistic heading into this weekend. Excited to see what this team can do with a full lineup.
Plenty of good seats tonight for $10 if anyone is within a drive of Columbus.
Any details on when the school with massive 🏈 💵 is going to build a decent hockey arena? The facility where Ohio State plays…is an utter JOKE.Plenty of good seats tonight for $10 if anyone is within a drive of Columbus.

AN Ohio, state university has a foot ball game, yea, so they moved the hockey game up to 4. It was originally 7 I think.

I wouldn't call it a joke... it's your basic built for basketball and you can play hockey at. Where OSU made their mistake was building the women's arena, but not big enough for men. By making the arena at first bigger would be pennies to what it would cost to add on or build.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Agreed, it isn't that awful overall, just way too big for the number of hockey fans they have. The situation with their Women's team is the disgrace.
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
I was initially going to go tonight, but the time change made it hard with work so I'll be there tomorrow. The Schott is a nice arena but has no atmosphere, especially for hockey games. It is dead silent during hockey games, which is honestly funny.
The real joke is the "arena" where the OSU women's team plays. I've said it before, but it is embarrassing that OSU has its successful women's hockey team play at an ice rink that would be on the lower tier of high school rinks in Minnesota.
In 2023, OSU announced they would build a new hockey arena for the men's and women's teams. There hasn't been any progress made in that direction since the announcement, so I doubt it will be built soon.
This is my fourth season in a row seeing a game in Columbus, and I'm 3-0. Hopefully, I will see another win on Saturday. Go Gophers and Ski U Mah!
Correct me if I’m wrong. I know the women play in the old hockey arena that the men played in until where they play now with the basketball teams. Don’t the women have a arena being built or it’s in the works, but the men were not included.
Keep your stick on the ice...
The men's team has played at the Schottenstein/Value City/Whatever-they're-calling-it-now for as long as I can remember, so not sure where they played before then, but yes, their Top 3 in the country for the past several years by any reasonable measure (probably Top 2, arguably just Best) Women's team plays at a rink that's worse than what most of MN High School teams play in.
I suspect @dannygopher00 has better information on the status of the new arena that's planned for tOSU Women, and whether they're planning on both teams playing there or not. I know they announced they're going to build a new one, but haven't heard anything since the original announcement on it, so no clue on progress.

Any word on the lineup?

They played at the same arena the women do now prior to ‘98. I’m taking a big guess here, but… I would guess hockey wasn’t a big thing for Buckeye fans prior to the NHL and Blue Jackets showing up in 2000. That and the women’s success in the half dozen years has called for a bigger arena than 2,000. Even now the hockey programs take a major backseat to especially football, then basketball (both programs) and probably wrestling and volleyball.

Nevers is back.

Cal Thomas and August Falloon are still out.
Axel Begley as the 19th skater over Nick Michel.
Johnny Mitts playing left wing, Oliver Moore stays at center, and Erik Pahlsson centering the 4th line.
Nice to see some of the guys back. Hopefully Falloon and Thomas aren't far behind.
Over/under on fans at the game tonight... turnstile, not sold... 500 +/-?!?!?!

Let’s go Gophs!!

Makes sense, Begley has been playing F in a pinch so can help either way.
Like the line combo’s as Hendrickson feels like he is about to pop, Moore brings more skill and Lamb will get the attention.
Hey drop the puck.
Also, Bob would much rather play an extra defenseman over a 13th forward when he can. It is much easier to cover a missing forward if he gets hurt/tossed than losing a defenseman and only having 5.

I was making some observations. I wasn't passing any judgment on them.

No doubt. Some wonder why Bob likes to dress 7 d, so I just threw that out there as well. Interesting to have Pahlsson on the "4th" line, but he and Mittlestadt worked well last weekend, so that makes sense as well.

The stream looks like a video game. Very white ice and slightly pixilated 🤣
My gosh this stadium is empty.
@jankwi01 I'm sure the students are doing some serious pregame before the bigger OSU game tonight.
Hard work will beat talent, if talent doesn't work hard.
1-0 ohio state
Montes 1-0.

End of 1, Gophs trail 0-1.

Can’t imagine Bob will be super pleased with the effort there in period 1.
Does someone need to tell them the game started at 4 tonight? 😬
