Could really use all six points here. MSU and Wisconsin might be just out of reach at this point but a solid third with home ice all locked up is more than in play. Plus we need to start stringing together some wins for some pairwise help. Won’t be easy but I believe the boys can get it done this weekend.
Speaking of potentially finishing third in the conference, I think think best case scenario for this team is if they go on a heater, win the majority of their games, but still finish third, or maybe even second, and go into the post season with a chip on their shoulder. IF this team gets itself squared away and plays to their full potential could you imagine if they finish the season hot but also pissed off and with something to prove? If that happens then watch out.
At home vs a below average big ten team, yeah that kinda needs to happen. I suppose an OT win or whatever one game would be fine too but this isn’t a series they should be splitting or worse.

With the late February bye, I'm totally cool with a third place B1G finish. We are going to need the quarterfinal series weekend to polish out some things for the big tournament.
Wouldn't you think the university would get a lot more people in the seats if they did those giveaways to the general audience as well...? I would CERTAINLY attend more games for cool things like this!
And, at a special day and time (Right now... 7:30 Thursday):
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Or why don’t they reward their STHs? Last years “special gift” was an embarrassment. Hype up a gift in an email, make STHs stand in line to verify our names and what do we get? A bumper sticker sized “poster” that said Pride on Ice. It was pathetic. I’d love a cup like this!Wouldn't you think the university would get a lot more people in the seats if they did those giveaways to the general audience as well...? Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

From a Sports Marketing perspective, the idea behind marketing like this is to drive attendance or participation, and efforts/resources are usually focused on biggest upside. Season ticket holders represent a group that tends to be die-hard and will show up no matter what incentives you provide-- so there is little perceived upside to rewarding someone who will show up anyway. But getting the students to show up and have a good time could make them into future season ticket holders and die-hards. It actually took the U of M a comparatively long time to figure this principle out-- it is sad. But literally, this concept is what the Sports Marketing Collegiate Textbooks say.
The issue (as a season ticket holder itself) is that those die-hards are understandably slighted by the focus not on those who show up through thick and thin, and over time become less enamored with wanting to maintain those tickets. But since we continue to show up anyway, there is little market incentive to placate us.
(NOTE: I believe this approach to be entirely misguided, as ignoring the ones who show up through thick and thin has disastrous long-term consequences. But they do the rewards system for season ticket holders like Skate with the Gophers access or Chalk Talks with tBob in lieu of handing out cups like this. It does beg the question, "WHY NOT BOTH?" )
Is it me or do those cups look too small? I have some coffee cups that are on the smaller size and they hardly get used.

And it wasn’t even a special gift only STH got - they had them available for everyone in Tampa at the FF.

I haven’t had a chance to verify with someone at the ticket office yet, but as a zone 1 ticket holder (no donation required) it looks like next year they will take away the ability to purchase a parking pass (and I’ll lose one of the gopher score benefits) unless I give them another $100.
can anyone verify this?
If this is true then I guess I’m done getting parking passes (which aren't a savings over gen-pop pricing anyways).
It sounds like just another way to take advantage of the die hard hockey fans. Take away from us unless we give you more money, but disguise it as a donation.
So will the Gophers be wearing the Gold uniforms this weekend?
Aloha!
So will the Gophers be wearing the Gold uniforms this weekend?
probably tomorrow considering it’s a gold out.
The students are back in full force.

PITLICK!!!! His 12th of the season.
KURTH!!!!!!!!!
2-0
Shots are 15-4. The Gophers are COMING!!!!
There should be 4 assists on this goal. I think everybody had a pass to set up the goal.
I like the way the boys are playing so far tonight. Good puck movement, moving the feet finding the open man.
SNUGGY (18th goal of the season) snips again!!!! Power Goal
3-0
The last two goals have been set up by passing clinics.
Shots in the first 17-6, scoring chances 8-1.
Was that the best period the gophers have played all year?!
That is exactly the kind of first period we needed. Nice job boys!
Some beautiful sequences on goals two and three.
Being the OSU goalie tonight would not be fun, especially that second goal 😂. Outstanding period
Definitely best period of the year. Now come out and bury them in the second
Boy, as good as the first period was the second is the opposite. Boys need to buckle up and put this game away.
Guys 0% ready for the physicality. Lots of high hands and late checks and it’s got the gophers off their game. Next goal is massive
Huglen dangles and finds a wide open Pitlick for an easy tap in.
The Gopher power play is now 2 for 3 tonight. Going into the game they were 25.7% (12th in the country). They will be top 10 after tonight.
The one power play then didn't score on they scored 14 seconds after the power play was over on the continues passing play where they had the puck for ever in the Buckeye zone.
Pitlick with the Hatty!!!!
The lethal Gophers are back. Look out college hockey!!!!
The Buckeyes normal starting goalie has started two games against the Gophers this season and both times they sent him to the bench.
The big red nut scores on PP.
Nice Culver’s - 2 win tonight.
Great jump to start. Now let’s finish the sweep and send those losers back to Ohio with nothing
Absolute clinic from the boys. Tomorrow is everything. Gotta come out with the same jump. Need a sweep!
The Gopher power play is now 5th in the country at 27.4%
Snuggy had 21 goals in 40 games last season. This season he has 18 goals in 23 games. He seems to be doing alright without Cooley and Knies. As a matter of fact apparently Cooley and Knies were holding his goal scoring down. 😉
Last year's top line had 64 goals (Cooley 22, Knies 21, Snuggy 21) in 40 games which is 1.60 goals per game.
This year's top line has 35 goals (Snuggy 18, Pitlick 14, Moore 3) in 23 games which is 1.52 goals per game.
The Gophers have given up 1 or 2 goals in 5 of their last 6 games (1 goal twice, 2 goals three times). The D men/team defense is coming together.
The Gophers don't rebuild they RELOAD!!!
Sam Rinzel with 20 assists on season. Gopher freshman assist record is 29 in 1988-89. But I am not sure of Larry should qualify for defense records because he played forward. Mike Crowley had 27 assists in 94-95 as a freshman. Todd Richards had 23.
THere is a chance he could reach 30 assists on the year. But one difference is that those defensemen had many more goals than Sam.
Best game of the year so far. Let’s finish this tomorrow. The first line is really finding its groove, I like where this team is headed.
Huglen with a great game too. We need more of that.
Usually to compete a sweep, there needs to be other players who step up. The Nelson line didn’t have a point all night. I foresee at least two goals from them tomorrow.
Ohio State will start their freshman, and better, goalie tomorrow. Should be a tighter one.
Strobel-Clark-Mittelstadt needs to be the 4th line every night from here on out
First time sitting on the end where the Gophers shoot twice (sec: 15) in over 10 years. I’ve have been sitting in 23, 24, 1 & 2 since the WCHA days. Fun sitting next to the students and telling my wife all stuff we did in the mid to late 90’s that are no longer allowed… lol!!
Not making it political, the couple in front of us deliberately sat for the anthem. Though the disturbing part was the female was eating hot dogs and farting throughout the game. My wife was looking at me thinking it was me. And I told her those smell like hotdogs, I ate chicken and rice.
Keep your stick on the ice...

I agree the freshmen goalie will probably get the chance to start tomorrow but he has only played 7 games (312 minutes) while the goalie they started tonight has played 19 games (1050 minutes) so if he is better the Buckeye head coach has been really slow to make the switch.
Strobel-Clark-Mittelstadt needs to be the 4th line every night from here on out
Came here to post this also. This group has sustained pressure in the offensive zone and created legitimate scoring chances when they are together. Don’t over think it Bob, keep those 3.

She sounds pregnant. 😆

...Except that every professional sports team in existence does this... You could easily do this for non-season ticket holders (i.e. everyone including students) and probably sell a good chunk of the remaining single game tickets that go unsold, and therefore bring in potential season ticket holders too. If your customer acquisition rate is even a small fraction it's worth it, especially if the Gophers are doing reasonably well. Clearly the runner-up season didn't maximize season ticket holders last year, so you'd think they'd at least get creative and try something like promotions, track the numbers, and pull back when they are close to capacity.

I can't VERIFY this, but that is exactly how I read it--we are in zone 2 so I remember thinking, "Oh, whew, I am exempt"...
...Although now I can't find the email or site that says this, so take it with a grain of salt.

No idea if this applies to hockey, but for football I am a Gopher Pass holder. I don't get any of the actual season ticket privileges, such as a season parking pass. However if I call the ticket office they will sell me individual game parking passes over the phone. So I just buy the whole season that way. Plus if I know I will miss a game I don't buy the pass for that one.
I'm sure that's not exactly what you wanted to hear but if you can't buy the season pass maybe they will still sell them to you over the phone.

We sit in Sect 15. The part we sit in used to be full of STH, but now we are are on an island as most have moved or have given up their seats because the U puts the youth teams in our section and the spill over of the student section ends up in our rows. The student overflow isn't bad, but you can imagine the youth teams provide us with plenty of up/downs during the game. Last night we had adults from the Pond Hockey tourney. They were 100x worse than the kids as they went on beer runs all game long and never waited for stops in the action. We missed the 1st Pitlick goal because of the adults going on a beer run. BTW, my wife was not eating Hot Dogs 🤣
