Anderson was definitely bias against the Gophers! I remember Kevin Dubai(?) going crazy after one of Anderson's officiated games. I was at that game & remember how bad some of the calls were.
Not directly related to this next game here, but these shootouts are lost opportunities for sure. Bob calls it gimmick hockey and I see his point. But the fact is that losing shootouts is costing this team an opportunity to establish itself as the prohibitive 3rd place team in the Big Ten and I think is also costing the team better pairwise/poll standings as well. My concern is (and maybe it won't matter), but I'm wondering if come Big Ten playoff or NCAA tournament time if games are also determined by shootouts. I'm hoping not at this point. I like out chances in overtime, but 5 minutes of overtime play goes by quick. The gophers dominated Wisconsin for the 5 minute OT period on Saturday and still couldn't sneak one past their goalie. Come tourney time, much of the same tight defense in OT can be expected as well.
I thought Bob also said the fans like the shoot out. I hate it! 3 on 3 will get a goal fairly quickly. Do a 10 minute vs 5. I know TV needs to keep the game times to a limit. Sad but a reality.
From todays presser--
Bob--
Need to keep foot on the pedal.
Close is the most remarkable story Bob has ever seen. Jokes he was stupid to not play him earlier.
Every weekend is a playoff series.
*not a lot of questions for Bob this week.
Kurth was next up--
Excited for the sellout this weekend.
Talked about how good Close is.
He enjoyed playing at Wisconsin and their crowd.
Fish was last--
Talked a bit about Close as well.
Calls Close the "old man"
Says he doesn't matter if they play 6 or 7 defensemen. Nothing changes except for line rushes in warmups.
All you can do is laugh at the signs at the Kohl Center.
Was asked about Saturday's non calls. Says he considers it a loss. On paper it is a loss, so that is what it was.
Frank asked he should be in used in the shootout. Joked he has thrown his hat in the ring. Hopes they just win games in regulation.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
I think a lot of people are forgetting the person who set the tone in the old WCHA days for bad refereeing... Gregg Sheppard. Alyways thought it was comical when he was made director of officiating years later.Todd Anderson is in talks for top 3 worst I believe.
Why do I remember Sheppard being a good ref?
You thinking of his kid Derek?
And not to nitpick but instead avoid confusion, his father was Greg Shepherd. Gregg Sheppard played for the Bruins I believe.
My Bad on the spelling. it is Derek's dad I was referring to. He was absolutely brutal in the late 80's and early 90's. There were a lot of bad ones in those days, including Anderson, Buzz Christensen (not the player) and Medo Martinello. Hard to come up with name of one in those days that was actually good. It says a lot when Don Adams was probably the best of that bunch...You thinking of his kid Derek?
And not to nitpick but instead avoid confusion, his father was Greg Shepherd. Gregg Sheppard played for the Bruins I believe.
I forgot about Buzzy.....he always reminded me of the ref in Youngblood.
Those guys must have trained the PSU shot stats team.

Feeling really good about this weekend. The team seems to be playing some of there best defensive hockey at the right time of the year. They will be looking to breakout offensively after 2 defensive games in Madison. Culver’s win Friday and a tighter win Saturday. 6 points. Penn State is no slouch but it’s clear who the better team is.
We finally get to find out if the new pegs for the goals will work. Big Ten probably scheduled Penn State and Michigan later in the season so we would have time to work out some of the kinks. If everything works great, I expect Penn State to only knock off their own net once a period.
The Badger fans treated the shootout goals like they were on the verge of winning the National Championship. Not directly related to this next game here, but these shootouts are lost opportunities for sure. So did the UMD fans this year. And that wasn't even for points in the standings. They acted like they had just won a natty after the shootout. I understand Wisconsin fans being dumb about that stuff but I expected better of UMD fans.
LOL I forgot about that. You just reminded me of the gal that followed me in a car and yelled out her window for me to "take your 'L' and enjoy the drive down 35." That's embarrassing.
Reminds me of the UND woman sitting in front of me when the Gophers scored at .06. She was crying and whined “but we were on the power play” like she’d never heard of a short handed goal.😳
That was a glorious moment made even better by an idiot.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

To hear their student announcers talk during the B1G+ broadcast, you'd think Wisco is head and shoulders above every other team in college hockey and a lock for a national title.

Depraved is more like it.
Why is tonight "educator appreciation night" and the giveaway is to the first 1500 students? I can't imagine they're all in the college of education. I don't see how the 2 are connected.
For students to appreciate their educators? (I ❤️ my teachers)
I’m sure it’s like military appreciation night when they do a student giveaway; pretty sure most of the students aren’t in the military. It’s just a couple promos happening on the same night? 🤷♀️

Your GPL login name is fitting.
Looks like tonight's game is all but sold out. Only a few single tickets available on the U website.

Ok...I guess I'm just used to pro sports where the giveaway is usually related to the appreciation night. Just curious how they honor the military or educators on those nights then?

They usually recognize a few by name ( usually by the Zamboni entrance ) and then have others stand up in the crowd. They may also have one of them sing the anthem. My guess is that they get discounted tickets for the game as well.

We also bought teacher appreciation night tickets to a Wild game earlier in the season. The one and only perk of that job.

Buzzy Christionson had it in for Gophs. Upon retirement was given jerseys from all the WCHA teams. He gave away his Gopher jersey. One exception was players on Gophers from Grand Rapids. Only called one penalty on Grant Bischoff, and then apologized to Grant because he didn't realize it was him when he called penalty.

Better sweep, or at least get goal differential. Got a 12 pack on this game with Ped State grad at work!
Anything less than a sweep feels like a loss, but losing the beer would be worse.

A regulation win needed tonight. Nuff said!

2 regulation wins. Let’s go Gophers!!
Culver’s win tonight 6-2 followed by something more defensive tomorrow and a 4-1
What's the over/under on number of Gopher goals waived off?
PITLICK!!!!!!!!
M – I – N – N – E – S – O – T – A!
Minnesota!
Minnesota!
Yeaaaaaaah Gophers!
What a start!
Pitlick 2
Penn State 0
It was only a matter of time before the Pitlick time bomb went off!!!!!!
By my math, Pitlick on track for 313 goals tonight.
Penn State defensemen #2 Carter Schade is from Mars. Penn State's recruiting budget must be quite large. 😯 😀
Penn State coach: I need to go to Mars to check out a recruit.
PSU very lucky this isn’t about 4-0 after one. Great period
Brodzinski two minutes for receiving. 🤔
He didn't make enough effort to avoid getting hit by two Penn State guys. 😉
