That second period was abysmal.
Gophs weak on the puck.
We are so lucky to be tied at this point
Welp.
We just decided the game was over when it was 2-0 and quit skating. It's been hard to watch.
Yeah I get that Penn is more desperate but gophers look lifeless. That call was lucky.
What a break! Do something with it!
Someone buy that linesman a beer
The team that showed up today gets beat in the first round of the NCAA playoffs. This is a crazy game.
HULGEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Now finish it! Yes!
I think I just saw him out there!
But still whatever was for lunch, don’t eat that anymore.
Phenomenal move by Lamb for the A
Batten down the hatches! You know Penn State is pouring it on.
Not the prettiest weekend but holy hell did they get it done.
Quoth the Rat: "They are lucky to get away with a win tonight"
And, I think anyone that's paying attention would have to agree.
Go Buckeyes!
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Penn got robbed in that game. Wow.
It is great to get the win but I feel very lucky.
Stole one, but you have to every now and then. Regroup for next weekend.
Well… it’s a win.
Go Ohio State!!
The SOG for last 2 periods was 5-35…how do you win that game? Attempted shots was 43-92, they had had 5 more shots on goal than we attempted.
Can’t blame PSU shot counter either 😂
The Gophers have had games this season where they out played their opponent and lost so I have no problem celebrating a game our goalie stole.
Closer, the PK, Nelson, and the 3rd line scoring a huge goal = WIN
Last 5 games
Nelly 7 goals (3 assists) - 10 points
Last 8 games
Huglen 6 goals (3 assists) - 9 points
Closer and Fish were both huge this weekend.
The upper classmen have definitely raised their game.
Couldn't help but think of last year's Q game. We get up 2-0, then let them totally dominate us.
Yeah that also came to mind, I’ll take the win but not a game I’ll ever rewatch lol.
It isnt’t the way you’d prefer to win, but it’s still a victory. I’ll take it. I was pretty distracted in the 2nd and 3rd periods. What was the reason for Penn St’s dominance? Did they figure something out on the Gophers defensive setup? Did the Gophers slow down? That was such a drastic turnaround.

the gophers seemed to lose a step as PSU realized the season was about to end. Think it was mostly the gophers losing that edge. Hopefully doesn’t drag over to next weekend
Penn State did a great job of taking away zone entrance for us and we did a poor job of getting the puck deep and getting in on the forecheck. Since we didn't have much time in the O zone the puck was in our end a lot and that is going to lead to a lot of shots on goal for a team who shots from every where.
Bottom line the Gophers turned the puck over too much. This has been the biggest problem the Gophers have had this season but on the positive side usually when we've had a game where we've turned the puck over a lot we have given up a bunch of goals but today we covered well enough and Closer played really well so we only gave up two goals.
Obviously games like today are much fun to watch but only giving up 2 goals even though Penn State controlled the game/puck is a sign of being better with our defensive coverage overall.
Snuggy getting kicked out 4 minutes into the game obviously doesn't help either.
On the positive side after the 3 penalties in the first 9 minutes of the game the Gophers didn't take another penalty the rest of the game.
It is difficult to defend as much as the Gophers did with out taking penalties.
Wanna know what’s my favorite part of ugly wins? Anyone care to hazard a guess?

My best guess:
Ugly wins are always better than pretty losses 🤣
AA never won a pretty game in the old wcha days so it’s just one of those games.

Thanks for the in depth perspective of the 2nd and 3rd period issues, I appreciate it!

I said the same thing during the third. We get in our own heads and stop playing Gopher Hockey. Hopefully out of our system for the season.
Crossing fingers we get to see the boys in person again before April!
Been having medicine head after battling the flu earlier this week, but did we get a bonus challenge tonight or was that just an officials' review? I thought I heard PSU's goal that got waived off was from a challenge live in Mariucci after we lost a challenge in the first, but that might have been the pain killers messing with me.
Either way, Souliere seemed pretty PO'd (possibly about that) and was barking something at the refs after Huglen scored.

We were all wondering and had it clarified after the game - you can challenge all you want but if you don’t have a time out left and you lose the challenge then you are assessed a delay of game penalty.
Oh okay, that makes sense. Thx.

Wisconsin earlier this season won a game against Michigan scoring a power play goal with 6 seconds left in regulation. The power play was because Michigan thought they had scored the go ahead goal with 1:40 left but lost the challenge and was accessed a delay of game penalty for the reason @cowgirl mentioned above.
It’s weird that that hasn’t happened any time I can remember in the recent past but I suppose you want to be pretty damn sure you’re going to win a challenge if you don’t have any TO left.
Especially that late in a close game.

Nelly has 7 goals and 2 assists in less than 10 periods!!!!!!
A point a game is really good. Almost a point a period. 😲
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Was anyone else aware that Nelson grew up on a farm? 🤣
Wait, huh?
😉
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

The Farm? Was that the name of his subdivision?
