Penn power play

The Quaker power play will get nothing and like it. 😉

And it is killed without any real chance from Penn

Gophers playing disciplined hockey right now. Just riding out the score. Good to see.

Penn State pulls their sieve (ops I mean goalie) with over 3 minutes left and Pitlick scores in the empty net.

5-1

Pitlick now has 19 goals on the season.

Closer with his 4th assist of the season. He has more points than everybody on the 4th line not named Jimmy Clark. 😆

Pino (3 points), Strobel (3 points), Johnny Mitts (2 points).

5-1 final

Slow start but second half of the game looked solid but unspectacular.

Two goals from the top line, one goal from each of the 2nd & 3rd lines, and 1 goal from the D.

Only took one penalty. The Gophers are the least penalized team in the country this season.

Only gave up one goal and 21 shots on goal to the team who leads the country in shots on goal at 38 per game.

Fish had 2 assists and was a +4.

Gophers won the faceoff battle 31-20. Nelson was 13-4, Clark was 6-2, Moore was 8-8 and Huglen was 4-6.

Snuggy has back to back 20 goal seasons. The last Gopher player to do that as a Freshmen and Sophomore was Thomas Vanek. Not bad company to be in.

Looked a slow and apathetic at times early on but grew into the game as it went on and got a solid playoff win. Good to get scoring from Pitlick and Snuggerud. Defense chipping in and Huglen just keeps on getting better.

Well it was pretty obvious what Penn State’s game plan was coming in. They set that classic neutral zone trap and that sucker worked for half the game. The boys got their feet going eventually and it was game over from the 3rd goal on.

Very neutral zone game oriented. Was a very weird game in that the PSU threats were generally very very low even when they had better legs/possession. Hopefully they finish the job tomorrow and move on with a 2 seed secured

Good, solid win after a slow start! Huglen is so fun to watch. Kurth with a couple great individual efforts.

relieved that Lamb and Huglen weren’t seriously injured.

I agree. They're a portal team of guys who are playing Hastings' hockey...yawn. When they run into a good team that can get a 2-goal lead, they'll struggle.

State is a little better, but I think they can lose an early game, too.

it’s a weird year. Wouldn’t be surprised to see all the big ten gone in the first round or meeting each other in the FF. They’ve all been so up and down

Gophers thought the game started at 7:00!

And from my vantage point at about 5:15 AM this morning, I'm actually wondering about "recovery time"?

Assuming the game ended around 8:30 PM, that's 3.5 hours ( if "recovery time" starts immediately after the end of a game . . . ? ).  Then 15:30 at 3:30 PM this afternoon . . . for a total of 19 hours.  What's the rule for "recovery time"?

And, how are the meals scheduled in order to get peak energy beginning at 3:30 PM?

Hopefully, the Gophers don't think the game will start at 7:00 PM tonite . . . .

Go Gophers!

Not knowing what to do, they do what they know . . .
Knowing what to do, they sometime don't do it . . .
The 26th year of the Gopher Men's Hockey Profile got to be too much for this ol' codger to handle . . . what with all of the possible activity on the transfer portal . . . . So, I'm closing it down at the 25th year . . .

A couple of thoughts from last night--

I bet it was a bit strange for the players to play in front of that small crowd after the crowds have been pretty good all year long. It was an east regional crowd.

Rinzel was the leader on the team in SOG last night.

After a slow start, Luke Mittelstadt is just 4 points behind last year.

Another good defensive effort last night with only allowing 20 shots on goal.

The pass the Farm Kid had to Snuggy was a thing of beauty. He was also 13-4 on face-offs.

Snuggy still likes to float around out there when "trying" to play defense. Needs to clean that up.

At some point, I would love some points out of the 4th line. I know their role isn't to score, but the 4 of them had a combined 1 shot on goal last night.

How the refs missed the wicked slash on Huglen is beyond me.

On the positive, no bathroom lines and easy to get out of the parking lot 😉

Nothing strange about it…Gophers ALWAYS play before a small crowd when they host a game the Friday night of the State Hockey Tournament…

That is a given. But, my point was I'm sure it took them a while to get used to the small crowd after playing in front of near sell outs all year. I have been to 99% of the home games the past 15+ years, and it still feels weird to me and takes me, as a fan, a while to get used to the different environment with the small crowd. So, I'm sure it has to be the same for them.

I wonder when the last time Penn State was held to 21 shots in a game.  (The one shot in a period is mind-boggling for that team...)

So last night they handed out gold tie dye t-shirts.  We stood in line but by the time we got one all they had were smalls.  I am not a small ☹️

So we’re at our seats and a family sits behind us with probably a 5 yr old girl.  I ask, is this your first game?  She says yes.  I said, well I think for your first game you need a t-shirt.  She was so excited.
And by the end of the game she was very good at spelling M-I-N-N-E-S-O-T-A.

idk if they can play a lot harder. They’re just a limited team. If they get down early, they may fold up shop on a lost season

I just came here to post this. They don’t seem like a team that has a lot of fight in them. If we get 2 goals up, it might be lights out.

After the game coach seemed to be leaning towards staying with the change he made halfway through last night's game Snuggy on the Criticism Line with Nelson/Nevers and Brodzinski with Moore/Pitlick so it will be interesting to see how the top two lines play out today.

Live radio isn't linked into the feed or something... long beep followed by instructions to call the Westwood One operations center in Denver (complete with phone number)

PSU player up against the board already, Snuggy gets him half from behind, half on the shoulder... and that's a game MC?  I've seen plenty worse hits this year not get called a penalty at all.

Edit:  I do think it should have been 2 for boarding.

Looked like a borderline 5 to me (not an expert on the rule but would have accepted it). DQ is absurd.

Not going to absolve Snuggerud because the decision was poor, but this has become the ref show now. Ridiculous.
