Since it is after Jan 1, time to start looking at the Pairwise. Those are the rankings in the title.

CC sits in 5th place in Nacho conference and is 9-6-1 overall. The recently beat The Whioux twice in OT

Will the 4 USA players make it back in time for game 1 or 2?

Will Airey start to get some games now he is healthy?

Based on the 1/7 and 1/8 scheduling they must have a plan.

Title game puck drop is 12:30 CST on 1/5.  My guess is:

6-8hr from puck drop to boarding plane.

8hr direct flight from Goteburg to Chicago or Detroit.  Assume chartered.

3-4hr including flight time to MPLS.

1-2 hr to clear immigration and get to campus.

Puts you at 6:30AM CST on 1/6.  If you grind through the body clock correctly you go to bed 8-9PM on 1/6 and wake up ready to roll for gameday.

They are young kids and tremendous athletes with world class people consulting with them on how to manage their bodies.  1/7 5PM puck drop is doable, 1/8 should be guaranteed.

Solely based on traveling to and from Sweden multiple times, they won't be on a flight on Friday.  Usually a flight first thing the next day and you get home to MSP around noon local time with connections in AMS, CDG, MUN, or some similar airport.  Not to many direct flights from Sweden to the US.  They could play on Sunday, but depending on how they handle jet lag, they might be sluggish.

(Edit). Just did a quick check and flights from Gothenburg are not regular.  If they were in Stockholm, it would be a different story.  They are looking at about 15 - 20 hours of travel time (including layovers).  Means there will be some tired boys if they are in the lineup Sunday.

I would be pretty surprised if they weren’t in the lineup. Why schedule a Sunday/Monday if not?

I would imagine it is possible for them to play, but they will want to see how they are feeling before making an official decision.

I assume they have a chartered plane.  C’mon GPL do I need to go to the Gopherhole sleuths to get flight tracking setup?

I would be a little shocked if there was an International charter for the number of people in their traveling party (30-50?) given the number of final destinations that they would have.  I suppose they could do a charter to NYC and go from there, but that's a lot of $$$ and logistics to work out.

So a school that won’t let football and hockey play within 24 hours of each other have two games starting within 30 minutes of each other? Super.

you guys are forgetting. Making the title game isn't a certainty. It might have been one of those "if you come home early..."

but also, "don't come home early"

yeah, do they still honor parking passes?  Do they do those for basketball too? If so I don’t see how they have enough room for both, and of course we’d be the ones getting screwed.

How many people actually go to the basketball game? I know the box score from the Maine game said 8800, and Nebraska was under 7,000. From the photos I have seen on social media, it seems to be about half of that. I think that the traffic will be more of an issue than the parking issues for those of us that have parking passes. I'm not at all concerned about getting into my lot with my pass. But, I know if there is an issue, I have @cowgirl as my advocate to let the U know that they screwed up. 😉

Per Bob's media availability today. The 4 Gophers are expected to arrive in Mn at 10:30 tomorrow night.

Bob is hoping they play Sunday. If they are ready to go, they will play. He is more worried about them running out of gas next weekend. Need to monitor them.

The team is in a good spot health wise.

Bob has no plans ( as of now ) to rotate goalies.

Bob talked a lot about world juniors.

Bummer on not rotating goalies if by that he means not even a single start for Airey.

CC is looking like a better team now than they were a month and a half ago.  That being the case, and as important as non-conference games are for PWR, I'm on the "just use Close" plan right now.

Next weekend vs RMU, tBob can re-visit, particularly for the 2nd game.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?

Sounds like the team is healthy and feeling a lot better. The WJC players are riding high from the gold medal win so let’s keep the good times rolling. Let’s start the second half strong, boys! Take it to ‘em!

I have a feeling Mason Nevers gets his first goal of the season against CC.

In the second half of the season I think Moore, Nevers, Chesley and L. Mittelstadt will noticeable raise their game and be bigger contributors. I am not saying they played bad in the first half of the season just that I think they will hit around gear.

This year's team reminds me a lot of the team two years ago. This year's team has the chance to be really good and being in a near tie with New Hampshire for #11 in Pairwise/RPI (UNH is .5704, Gophers .5703) they are in a position to have a really fun/exciting 2nd half of the season.

This will likely be a tough series to sweep. CC is current #21 in Pairwise/RPI and beat North Dakota twice at the Ralph in their last series. The two most likely results for this series is a Gopher series win (but not a sweep) or a series split.

There will certainly by some disappointing games/results the rest of the way but as a fan I choose to enjoy the ride regardless of how individual games go.

Gopher hockey is a Minnesota treasure and I choose to focus on the positives. #PrideOnIce

The team just isn’t that great, pretty simple.  Nowhere near the talent as last year and can’t make up for it with coaching.

Shots are 19-19, scoring chances are 9-7. CC's first goal was fortunate. CC is playing well this is how they went to the Ralph and swept North Dakota. Is North Dakota not good either?

The Gophers have played the 4th toughest schedule in country. When you play tough opponents every week there are going to be rough patches.

Of course this team isn't as good as last year. Late year's team was historically good.

My prediction is this year's team will finish top 10 in the nation. The team two years ago finished #6. They were 15-11 on February 1st.

This year's team is currently 9-5-4. Yes there is good chance they will be 9-6-4 in 45 minutes but if they score the next goal the game gets really interesting.

That’s what’s so frustrating. It sucks when you’re just bad but to have all of this talent and experience but still play slightly above average is maddening.
