Doubletree is a great location. I’ve stayed at nearly every hotel in downtown and Cambridge for work over the years, with my favorite ones the Copley sq/back bay hotels. But you can really walk everywhere. Had we booked six weeks ago I’m sure this would be affordable. Hard to arrange last minute like Tampa was years ago
Great to know, thanks! The location was a definite selling point. The only other time I've been to Boston we stayed a the Hilton Back Bay, that was a great location but probably not as convenient for back/forth to TD Garden. I am willing to pay a certain premium for when travelling to larger cities if I can avoid a long commute into town or the need for a car.
I can feel the pain of late bookers. A group of buds from college are in the process of trying to plan a trip FL, probably Destin, and holy sticker shock! We want to cover the cost of one of our buds because he's had an absolutely :censored: year and needs to escape for a bit, vent some, and maybe abuse his liver a little so.....yeah....yikes.

We booked in October. Airfare was $225 for each of us. Using hotel points and staying at Wyndham Beacon for free. I just checked and the going rate is over $300 a night. It is less than 15 minute walk to the arena. Flying in on Weds afternoon and leaving Sunday am. Already looking at the hotel for Tampa. Not being able to travel for a year really helped us save up points for this FF.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
It's definitely much cheaper for both airfare and hotels when you go every year and can plan/book several months to a year ahead of time.

I like this team. In fact it's kinda gotten me back into following college hockey. The last years of Lucia made me not care. I made the decision to go last night at about midnight, and I was able to secure airfare for about $500 with a connecting flight fly out Wed afternoon. Hotels really close to TD Garden are insane, but I'm staying a Fairfield in about a mile from the Arena. I booked with points (actually my travel partner did) but they still had rooms left for $225ish a night just in case anyone is still looking.
Now all I have to worry about is my Stub Hub tickets coming through, Apparently, the venue doesn't do paper tickets?

100%. I've decided to just make it work when the Gophers are in it. I don't want to use any of my vacation time when they aren't. So the less than ideal travel is the price I pay for that, but I'm fine with it.

Correct.

Completely understood. It's all about trade-offs in what we want to accept. I like the trip every year as a hockey vacation, but I completely get that doesn't work right for some people.

I would expect StubHub to simply re-tag whatever tickets with your e-mail address, then you get them that way.

We stayed at that Wyndham in 2004 for the tourney. It was a nice property. Had to sell our house from their business office as that’s when the offer came in.

That was murky, eh?
To the best of my knowledge there are no paper tickets. I bought four and I received an email that they were available via Ticketmaster/NCAA about a day after I bought them.

I just looked, we booked flights in Sept and total of $540 for 2, Comfort class. Booked our hotel last April! Harborside Inn for $160 average per night. Now that same hotel is over $370. I totally get why people don’t go every year, but man, if you do you save a :censored: ton of $$ by booking early.
We’ve made reservations for Friday with our friends, laFamilia Giorgio’s. Resys on Saturday for a nice brunch late morning and then the Union Oyster House before the game. Mikes will be fit in there somewhere for a cannoli break :dup:
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

Mike's as soon as I get checked in to that hotel when I move downtown after the first half of the week. I'll sacrifice and make that strenuous one block stroll.

So, USCHO continues to update the Pairwise following tournament games and the 4 teams in the Frozen Four are 1-4 in the PWR. And, all four are top 6 in the PWR as of the end of conference tournament play. MN is the only team not in the 1-3 slot besting WMU (#3) and outlasting UMD (#5).
Otherwise, current power:
1) Michigan
1) MSU-Mankato
3) Denver
4) UMN
I'm not sure we've had such a tight grouping in recent history.

I think you should 2! One for the walk over and one for the walk back. I can highly recommend the pistachio with ends dipped in dark chocolate. I know I’ll be elbowing my way past old grandmas to get a couple.

That one was on the list, yes. And, it's almost certain I'll get at least 2 on that first trip. Gotta have something ready to go for Thursday breakfast, right?
I might skip the Lobster Claw this time though, that was a bit too much.

For those of you who live in the West Metro and are talking about Mike's I fully expect that you'll be making deliveries to Plymouth the morning after you get back.
Giacomo's isn't far from Mike's and the meal I had there one time in town was some of the best pasta I've had anywhere. Besides Legal Seafood (which I hit a few times inside of Logan) I think the only other seafood place I ate at was Belle Isle a little north of the airport. I wouldn't hurry out there given there are a lot better options likely in the city.
I met quite a few GPLers for the first time at the last FF out there in the arena. I was about a 45 minute train ride from Boston and got to see both Semis, but had to bolt immediately after the 2nd game (which I believe was the Whioux losing so I left happy) in order to catch a train home. I think it was a GPLer who graciously sold me his ticket for a heavily discounted price, but I'm getting too old to remember who it was.
Not sure I'll be bringing any Cannolis back from Mike's. Maybe some cookies though.
As far as Giacomo's, that's an entire extra block from Mike's... what do you expect of me?

A couple times I’d drive into Boston on my way from Mansfield to Logan for my return flight home and pickup Mike’s. That was a hit in my household. I do miss the trips out there
My parents are driving for the FF. If I could convince my dad to actually go near an IPA I’d have him jaunt out to Trillian. Maybe I get get him to bring me back some Night Shift or something else out there since I just muled beer back from Omaha for him

Yeah I knew it was a dumb question but sometimes people have suggestions
Ugh I wish I could justify the price...flying to Hartford and taking the train was much cheaper but hotel rooms were stupid expensive even with my various discounts. Stupid New Orleans trip for Jazzfest (followed 3 days later with a Vegas trip) is eating up my travel funds!! :anger: :anger: :anger:

Booked flights in/out of Providence and renting a car from there. Little bit cheaper flights than Boston, but still pretty outrageous. Used more miles than I would have liked but, hey, we'll be there.

Flights to Boston on Thursday April 7, returning April 10 are now up to $1,800/person.
Pro tip - even if you’re not sure on going, book hotel rooms for next year’s FF a year prior. Of course be sure it’s cancelable, and don’t forget to cancel if you don’t go…
But at least if you do, you’re saving a lot on hotel costs as they only go up as the tourney draws near.
I’m not the travel planner in the house so I honestly don’t know what we are spending on flights and hotel (granted we are leaving this Saturday and going to Portland ME for a few days first so had to rent a car for that). But we had hotel in Boston booked a year in advance and flights for probably six months.
Although we’ll still likely spend more than that on food and booze while we’re on this trip….

I looked at that too. The better option was to just drive to Chicago and fly from there. Like a $250 round trip flight from there. That was the price sunday. But in the end a 6hr drive after a flight with hangover didn't sound too much fun, So I paid a little more to fly from here.
I'm okay with my outgoing United flight(s) wednesday, Nothing crazy, just a 2 beer stop in DC. My sunday flight gets a little more interesting, Boston to Orlando to Minneapolis. Still less time than having to drive to and from Chicago, and anything else added like $400 to the $500 flight. Oh yeah, just for fun the return flight is on spirit, so there's a good chance I'll be stranded in Orlando.
Can we just create a “rich fux going to Boston” thread cause most of us can’t afford that so maybe tone down the logistics

Disappointing to see ho much the flights cost. Jealous to be missing out on this one!

Don’t know about the band, but saw a fb post and it looks like the full cheerleading squad is going.

The cheerleaders appear to be from the excited social media posts i've seen. So hopefully that's a good sign.

Any word on which bar will be the "Gopher" bar around the Arena? My vote would be for Sully's (Sullivan's Tap). Authentic Boston right there. I work with a couple guys from Boston who say you can't really go to the Garden with out going there.

Really good flights out of Central Wisconsin Airport (CWA, about 3 hours straight east of MSP) for $500. Longer travel time flights for $380. Just putting this up as a public service.

I just got an email from the NCAA about transportation in Boston during the Frozen Four. The Blue Line train from Logan airport into downtown will be closed for maintenance during the first two weeks of April. Anyone flying in should be aware of this. They will have busses running to replace the train, but I have no idea what the schedule will be.
