Bob was just on BTP. I really like the fact he always praises the crowd and the student section. He heaped praise on Cal Thomas, as he has done all year long.

You mess with one Gopher (Nevers) you mess with ALL Gophers!!!! 👍
The announcer last night completely misread the play on the ice. Minnesota made a few mistakes early, but listening to that guy, one would think the Gophers didn't show up for the game. What escaped him was that the Gophers had a lot of jump from the drop of the puck. They were engaged in all three zones and hard on pucks.
At one point he claimed that Minnesota wasn't moving their feet as fast as Michigan. He was just dead wrong. Michigan got lucky on their first goal, and Minnesota was careless with the puck on their second. Other than that, the Gophers dominated play in every phase of the game.
(I do think Michigan looked tired last night and essentially mailed it in after going down by two goals.)

Spot on. He was ready to, and did, die on that hill.
I thought u-mi looked resigned to the offseason.

Nelson, Chesley, and Moore were clear standouts tonight. Tenacious play from all of them.
When the whole team is rolling it is much harder to pick one or two players that stand out. These 3 are good choices.

This is some Gopher colored glasses s&&t. If we played like we did the first 10 minutes we would have lost and our first PP was awful. After that our PP saved us cause we couldn’t get the puck thru the neutral zone with possession for most of the game and had some terrible turnovers in our own end. How Michigan only turned that into 21 SOG is beyond me. I’ll agree that MI seemed to let down once it was 5-2 but saying we dominated is a bit much.
GRRRR..Figures they set an afternoon start on the Saturday I have to work.
6pm Friday is less than ideal too for those that rush from work. But times aren’t necessarily chosen for the folks who go to the arena to watch the game…📺
Here is the no goal from last night.

A point of clarification since you didn't quote Jup's post and the page flipped; this is for next week's playoff series and not today's game, which is a 7:30 start. I presume most all on this site are fully aware but just in case..... 😎

I can’t say I agree with that assessment at all. Top grade scoring chances, advanced metrics all heavily in Gophers favor. we played a neutral zone clogging style for the entire reason of that Michigan struggles to make good looks off the cycle. That’s going to lead to us also having more difficulty with zone entry the other way as there’s more guys in the neutral zone for both teams. First period was fairly even, but it was heavily tilted Maroon and Gold the rest of the way with better chances and more sustained zone time throughout with good looks rather than just being pressed outside
I'm not trying to persuade anybody...it's just the way I saw it. At the 10-minute mark of the first period, Michigan was up 1-0 on a lucky goal and shots were even at 4-4. Minnesota's scoring opportunities were about the same as Michigan's and maybe better. Sure, the Gophers' first power play wasn't good, but you might have credited their penalty kill for thwarting a Michigan power play right afterward that could have put them up by 2.The announcer last night completely misread the play on the ice. When MI took the penalty on the Snuggy crotch shot, the announcer said it was a dumb play because it took away MI's "momentum." Well, Michigan killed the penalty. Did they get their momentum back? They went on a power play immediately after. That should have helped their momentum, yes? How about that legendary momentum swing of a late goal before intermission? Nope, that didn't help either.
None of it mattered because Minnesota was on its game all night long. Their passing was mostly sharp and at full speed, and the Gophers had no problem with Michigan's vaunted neutral zone defense. Aside from a couple of shots, Close only had to be average last night.
If I have one minor gripe about the game, Minnesota was a little loosey goosey with their big 3rd-period lead. Too many times they took unnecessary risks by sending passes back to the blue line. While I don't advocate a "prevent defense," protecting a 4-goal lead doesn't include taking chances to add to their score with 8 minutes left.
That is most definitely correct, thanks for the clarification, don't want to mess with anyone's schedule.GRRRR..Figures they set an afternoon start on the Saturday I have to work.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Super-fun game and seemingly the staff organized the week off to produce results.
Regarding the first period performance comments, I thought the Gophers gummed up the neutral zone really effectively. I lost count of how many times MI lost the puck trying to gain the offensive zone.
Was in attendance and couldn’t ask for much more out of a gopher hockey game, that was fun. Still kinda perplexed as to how that one no goal call stood after they basically ran over their own goalie but at this point I’m not exactly shocked when those don’t go our way.

The game was like a tale of two halves, the first being kinda ugly and then later they sorta just pulled away. First goal against seemed kinda unlucky too but that’s hockey for you.
Reusse had a nice article in the Strib today. Between periods tonight they're celebrating 50 years since the 1974 team won the our first Natty.
Wheels can come off, momentum swings, and a new found energy can put 3 goals on the board in a minute so for myself anyway, I didn’t relax much until it was 6-2. I do agree that the announcer gave mich. a lot more credit than necessary early on, I mean just because they control the zone and get the first scoring chance didn’t really justify the it’s been all Michigan so far. The gophers responded and played a good game.

Bummer Kurth can’t go for this one.
Literally the twig and berries.

SWEEEEEP
Any way to watch the game tonight if I don't have the Big 10 network?

So on the upwards slash penalty that Snuggy to the seeds. What were they reviewing? Contact to the head? If the Michigan player intended to slash his nether regions intentionally? At what point would that get bumped up to a potential major?

They haven't announced that the game is sold out, so in person is an option.

Hehe!! I don't think I cold get there fast enough -- even if I could borrow an F16. I'm down in Arizona, where almost all bars don't carry the Big10 network.
And you call yourself a fan! 😉

That was a seriously weak slashing penalty to give UMi the PP goal.
Current UM PP not looking great half-way through.
The event staff behind the glass facing the student section hasn’t missed a thing so far.
The Gophers Defense sure has missed a lot...
🤦♀️
Well so much for finishing the regular season strong I guess.

yeah I think you could upgrade it for unsportsmanlike for spearing
Worst period of hockey of the year so far?
Bad passing, or good passes lost off sticks, poor positioning, total lack of defensive continuity at center ice and in their own zone, couldn't keep possession if their life depended upon it.
It's just one period so I'm not suggesting this is indicative of anything larger, just it was a hard period to watch.
They look like they are content with wrapping up third place last night.

I think that’s still the third period of the Friday night game in East Lansing, but still pretty bad.
Of course UMi has "SWAGGER" on a board over a doorway in their locker-room. I've called them, "Puffy Chest U" since I was a kid after I first started encountering their fans at events. The most arrogant fans outside Green Bay I've ever encountered.
Michigan called for a 2 minute cross check by the broads. Reviewing it
Lets see if they upgrade it to a 5 minute major?
5 minute major.
Time for Snuggy and/or Pitlick to score.
I fear the powerless play is back already.
Better period in that they haven't given up another goal, but they haven't threatened on offense despite the increase in SOG. How can you expect to score on the PP when you have at least 3 players nowhere near the net the majority of the time? It's painful to watch.
I've been to probably 300 games here and I don't think I've ever been to one that looks we could care less about the outcome than tonight. Just coasting on both ends of the ice.
I just don't get it. Last night the skated circles around em. Tonight they like S___.
Just do not understand how they can completely outplay them night then embarrass themselves the next night. Were they out partying til dawn last night?

i have no idea who does the set up but it does absolutely none to put pressure on the pk
