I have used a version of that rationale for years (mine typically goes, "I can only take off so much before police start using the words 'indecent exposure'.)

It used to be that layering up for the cold you would look like brother Randy in A Christmas Story. Thankfully winter clothing has come a long way and isn't so bulky nowadays.

I think the question is a little out of balance. -10 WC is actually fairly moderate compared to 110 HI. Maybe they should have used something like -40 WC.Ok...I've seen the argument all over social media today. Do you prefer a day like today 110 heat index or a day in February at -10 wind chill?
I'll start...-10 wind chill and I don't hesitate a millisecond to respond that way.
I think the question is a little out of balance
I think though that a lot of people put negative connotations on the weather anytime the temp is below zero with or without wind chill just in the same manner anytime the temp is over 100 with or without heat index.

well that’s fair, both of those situations are pretty undesirable. ?
This is impressive forecasting.

We ended up with 5.3" for June, July, and August. That's the fourth lowest since I started keeping track when I started farming in 1976.

I just looked and I'm at 5.25 during that same period, so we are pretty close. My beans will be ready to combine in 10 days and my corn right after that. Reminds me of 2012 when I was done combining all of my crops by Oct 1st. Not going to be a stellar crops again this year. BTW, last year from June-Aug I had 4.75. So 2 dry summers in a row.

It’s almost as if we have two cold fronts coming through tonight. One to bring storms and knock the temp down about 10 degrees around dinner and another in the early morning hours to knock the temp down another 10 degrees.
They are forecasting a high of 70 tomorrow...I may move my office outside.

Perfect time for me to take that extra day off for Labor Day Weekend. I get back to the non-AC when the temp breaks. 😀

How big of a pumpkin patch do you have?
Not that big. I think it's around 32 feet by 32 feet. It is in an area behind our septic mound that is too small to get any farm machinery there to farm. That is for the large pumpkins. I grow the smaller pumpkins in my vegetable garden. The pumpkins in the photo are my extras for friends. I have about 10 more big ones out for decorations.

I buy or get around 6 pumpkins a year. Use them has decoration and eventually cut a hole in them one by one and watch the squirrels play, eat and have fun with them. It's pretty entertaining watching them shell the pumpkin seeds and devourer the pumpkin. Through out the summer, I toss peanuts for them and watch shell peanuts.

Congrats again to the predictors of the weather. For the last 10 days they have been saying that we were going to get 1-3 inches of rain starting on Thursday and ending on Monday. Non stop rain they were saying... Some even said it would start on Weds night. Each day they promised that it would start at a certain time. Yesterday morning they said it was going to rain at 5pm on Friday. Then this morning, 3 hours ago they said it was going to STORM around noon. As I sit here at noon, we have had ZERO rain and just a bit of fog and mist. 90% chance of rain.. LOL I swear all of this modern weather technology is making it worse. I could tell by looking at the radar this morning that the line was splitting up and was going to miss us and I don't have some fancy degree to back me up. We may end up getting a shower from the wrap around, but that is it.
End of rant.

It feels sticky out there now so I do believe we will get that rain. The start time of the rain keeps pushing back but the rainfall total is actually increasing.
My guess is we will get a real heavy rainfall tonight rather than patchy storms all day.
I was out of town all week so I am happy to get my kid mowing today!
NWS is still saying 1-2" here but I don't know where it's supposed to come from.Congrats again to the predictors of the weather. I’ll let you know when I get out to start some yard work in a bit. It should at least start raining down here in the south metro at that time. ?
Just went from 100% to 80%. I'm shocked!

Like I said. Put on the carharts, grabbed a battery pack for the weed whip and boom. Immediate sprinkles. ☔️?♀️
Rain all evening, non-stop here in the Ridgedale area. Soaking rain, which we need. I don't think it's letting up anytime soon.

We received just over a half of a tenth (.07) yesterday.... The have been off before, but this one may top them all. Now watch them put a PJ Fleck like spin on how this happened.

Our forecast was 100% chance, 1-2". We got 0.0000001. Great job NWS!
That's the third time this year we've missed on a 100% chance. To me, 100% should mean it's going to happen. It shouldn't mean if all the stars align it might happen.
A thin strip of weather continues to open up over us. It has been POURING for a long time. Rain is falling faster then the ground can absorb it. But I bet 5 miles on either side of us it isn’t even raining.
We pulled our dock out on Saturday, it's in southern Chisago County.
Our shore has a very gradual slope which means we have a long dock, probably 90 feet. When we put it in this spring the end of the dock was at least chest high on me (I'm 6') and maybe higher. If I had walked around the end of the dock there was a good chance I would have taken on water in my waders. This past weekend the lake was just over knee high in the same spot and I can't imagine how low it would have gone if we hadn't had a lot of snow. The lake level may have dropped close to a foot since Labor Day weekend.
Watching the weather this year our experience mirrored those of our SW MN farming friends, but not nearly as critical. We'd see a significant rain percentage or some storms that seemed like there was no chance we'd stay dry and the damn thing would split or take a sharp turn and nothing.
Looks like they got about 1.5 - 1.75 inches yesterday and i hope the rain hitting Bertogliat's place hits our area to, we could use the runoff!

It was that way yesterday coming home from the Vikings game. Raining in downtown Mpls. Richfield the pavement was damp and by I got home the pavement was dry.
I remember once seeing the line were the rain ended. On one side the pavement was wet and within 5ft the pavement was dry. Hardly a drop of rain.

2.5 inches of rain in last 24 hour and I bet most of that has been the last 8 hours.
and it just keeps raining!
I'm something over two inches in the last three and a half hours, plus another 2/3 of an inch overnight.2.5 inches of rain in last 24 hour and I bet most of that has been the last 8 hours.

Seems like we’re near the center of this low pressure system. The clouds are kind of just spinning around above us.

If I recall correctly you're a trained spotter, curious if you use this site and consider it reliable?
Also curious what you consider the best radar apps?

I do indeed use that site, I'm one of the reporters, which is why I have a rain gauge that reads in .01 inch increments.I'm something over two inches in the last three and a half hours, plus another 2/3 of an inch overnight.

For Radar apps on a phone, I personally use Radarscope (it's fairly expensive for an app) but that's overkill for the vast majority of people. RadarOmega is another app that I know is very popular and from what I've seen likely covers what most people are looking for.

This yellow patch on the radar is planted over us. We have to be up around 4” by now. Crazy.

Rain ALL day at my place. Caretaker had to "unplug" the parking lot grate due to leaves, water was halfway up the tires of a couple cars, due to the dip in the parking lot.

I dunno how much we got but it felt like we got dumped on pretty hard for about 3 hours this afternoon
I use Weather Underground app and it says Minneapolis got 0.61 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.
But for Blaine it says we got 4.75”. That is a lot of rain.
With the pattern I saw, things were forming west of downtown Minneapolis, and headed straight north. Northwest Mpls likely caught a decent amount, but the rest of the city didn't.I use Weather Underground app and it says Minneapolis got 0.61 inches of rain in the last 24 hours.

That lines up with what we dealt with. We’re in St. Louis Park, and numerous times I’d take a look at the radar when it would start pouring and there’d be nothing there. It was forming right on top of us and we couldn’t see it yet because the most recent image was usually a few minutes old.

A couple years ago after a storm in Mpls. I came out to do some work on the apt complex and noticed across the street the storm drain was clogged. Very similar, water standing mid tires or higher. Walked over and unplugged the storm drain of leaves and other garbage. It was pretty interesting watching how fast that storm drained all the backed up water once it was fully operating.
