Friend of mine drove back from Eau Claire early this morning. Said he couldn't do more than 50, due to the hard rain. Hydroplane risk, plus visibility, coming down that hard.

I was in Winona this weekend moving my daughter in for her senior year at Winona State and the rain on Saturday was just crazy. I woke up to rumbles before the rain started which worked out to get some containers in the back of her fiancé's truck and into my car. The sky just opened up for a couple of hours. We were in a tent which didn't hold the rain out, 20 year old Eureka finally met her match. Luckily the fiancé had a camper we used on Saturday night while my daughter and him stayed at her apartment. Sunday morning it poured again. Now my tent is hanging in the garage drying out. It was a mess to pack up yesterday. I'm sure Winona got a couple of inches of rain as there was standing water all over town on Saturday.

I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!

Looks like a good chance we finally get some measurable rainfall, starting early evening. Hopefully no damaging winds to go with it.

It really feels like ‘pending storm’ outside.

This summer can end... too hot and too dry. I have been miserable since June. I can only imagine if I was still living in Mpls. at my apt complex with a window unit and not central air at the house.

Another swing and a miss by the local weather people down here. They had us with a predicted 1-2 inches of rain today, and we got a tenth. Now the sun is out...

Several weeks ago, someone on WCCO said that he was once told to never predict rain during a drought. I think that’s good advice this year.

I was hearing tonight that the metro would be lucky to get anything, but up north (and saw a check-in from Wadena) it's raining like mad.

I did literally JUST hear some thunder, as I type this, but still not expecting anything.

It’s been raining good here for 2-30 minutes. It just stopped

Neighbor right across the street was struck by lightening last night. It was loud and intense. Lost most major appliances and has a hole in his roof. My modem not working this morning is very minor compared to what he is working thru.

Yikes - Is everyone alright?

We had that happen a few years ago about 5 houses from us and it was crazy. My neighbor’s tree took a direct bolt about 6-7 years but we weren’t home when that happened

We will be in Duluth in a few weeks and I’m wondering how much of it will still be around then.

I think it hit 95 in Moab today and even though there’s almost no humidity it feels really hot in the canyons and around all these rocks. Even when it was 75 early this morning it felt pretty hot on the hike to Delicate Arch.

Sky was clear & BLUE in Duluth today, barely a cloud in the sky & no smoke…was pretty much the same on Sunday too☝️

Up in the Duluth area, we had an early morning thunderstorm (didn’t last that long) and it’s overcast and now the smoke from the northern forest fires is here, you can smell it and it registers when you breath, it’s BAD today!

Closed on a cabin on Lake Vermilion last week. Drought has seriously impacted the lake, it's like 2 ft down. dock is almost completely out of the water. But rain in the forecast luckily should hopefully help a bit and knock this smoke down.

Another 1.1" of rain for me this afternoon. That is 4.4" since Friday.

Also had a lightning strike on a tree in my back yard. Was recording the front yard when it happened. There was a very close strike and I didn't think much of it until I saw the large branches down from a tree that has NEVER dropped anything in a storm.

You can hear the thunder in this video at 10 seconds.

1.4 inches in the last day here in the sticks. Little too late to really help the crops, but thankful to get moisture back in the soil.

Tue: 1.4

Thu: .9

Fri: .8

Very similar to the drought year 1988. We burned up in June July, then got rain in August after it was too late. Even though it's too late for the crops we still need the rain. After 3 inches there are no puddles.

Hurricane Ida is forecast to make landfall as a Category 3 storm in the New Orleans area on Sunday. Sunday is the 16th anniversary of Katrina's landfall.

Some models are predicting it to be Cat 4 before landfall. Apparently there's a lot of heat in the water of the gulf right now.

And, of course, it's coming in a bit to the west of New Orleans... so that front-right quadrant (the really nasty area) is likely to sweep over the city.

We shall see if the new pumps are up to the task.

They made a lot of improvements to dykes and pumps after Katrina. Let’s hope the money spent was worth it.

I have a feeling some trucks and helicopters will be at the ready this time around.
