No one has mentioned this Wii U scheduled release Nov 18. I think Nintendo is going to release there lastconsole here. Others have caught up with the motion control. The tablet controller will cost $150 -$200 and the console is about as fast as the current Sony or Microsoft versions. Still no Dvd support either
What they need to do is trash the damn gimmicks and just go back to making good video games...
Agreed. 3rd party developers have ditched them
To be completely honest, they really don't even NEED the third party players--they have enough stock in the empire they've created over the past several generations. But in both cases, let's list a few industry standards when it comes to certain games (first or third party), and you tell me how many came on a gimmicks-based console:
Goldeneye
Mario 64
Mario Kart 64
Banjo Kazooie
Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Chrono Trigger
Super Metroid
Super Mario Bros. X
Final Fantasy
Secret of Mana
Super Mario World 1 and 2
Pokemon
Battletoads
F-Zero
Earthbound
Donkey Kong (any)
Tetris
Mega Man (any)
Smash Bros.
Star Fox 64
...Just a few off the top of my head.
...And how many of these make you want to pick up your Wii, and how many make you want to pick up your NES, SNES, 64, or even Gameboy?
Nintendo needs to go back to their roots and make original (or at least semi-original) games with deep, multilayered content (see above).
My childhood is flashing before my eyes.
Awesome list. I think they do need outside game developers. Some of the best games recently were never ported to the Wii. They cant do it alone. For example, the last great Final Fantasy game was on the snes
Battletoads is one of the most underrated games of all time!

It's unfortunate, really. But it also perfectly proves the point--people are buying the Wii to replay the games that aren't available on the Wii... Nintendo is doing it all wrong.
Bring back a console with a REGULAR standard controller.
Create games based off content, not function.
Develop original content with extended value.

I disagree on the Final Fantasy line. You could easily say VII is a classic for most people and is usually near the top of most "Greatest Games of All Time" lists. Personally, I prefer VIII and X. X was a masterpiece but I think I prefer VIII despite it not being on most people's list.
The college athlete name deal sounds like it will be resolved soon. Within 12-18 months it's expected that the NCAA will agree to allow players names in video games. Which means NHL 14 or 15 will probably have college hockey.

Wait, let me guess...the athletes still won't be allowed to get a thin dime from having their actual likeness in one of the biggest-selling video games on the market?
NHL 13 is pretty awesome. It has it's problems (penalties), but it's a lot closer to a hockey sim than any game in the past.
Custom AI is a GREAT feature. I played a game against the Sharks with my Aggressive Custom AI, and they actually cycled the puck in their offensive zone, leading to some meaningful puck possession.

Nope, even better! Schools can get the money
Anyone have ACIII yet?
It looks sick. I love the AC series, and will probably get ACIII around Black Friday.
My roommate got it. He played it the other night for literally about an hour and then turned it off so he wouldn't sit up all night playing it. I don't understand the premise of the game, I just enjoy watching him play and asking him to kill random people for my entertainment.

I'm strongly considering going to buy the first Assassin's Creed this weekend and playing it.

The first assassins creed sucks IMO. I would start with the second one and just read about the first.

Reminds me a lot of Grand Theft Auto. Random killings don't make sense, but they sure are fun to watch.

Agreed. Read the plot of the first game on wiki and start with ACII.
The original AC was fun for the first half but EVERY mission consisted of this:
-Pickpocket someone
-Eavesdrop on a conversation
-Return home and relay the information you heard
-RepeatIt got very, very redundant. ACII, however, is an awesome game.
so I finally finished Red Dead Redemption this past week and eagerly await where they go with it next. Undead Nightmare has been a lot of fun, but took me some getting used to with the limited ammo and always running from the zombies.

RDR was such a sweet game. Graphically, it was beautiful. Half the time I was riding around on horseback just in awe of the landscape
I was playing Uncharted 3 the other day and was just admiring how amazing video games look nowadays. Hell, I remember when I would watch the summons from Final Fantasy VII over and over again because they looked so great. Now they look like pixelized crap.

Mortal Kombat on SEGA Genesis was the sh*t back in the day! Now I can't even bare playing it
A bunch of info on GTA V came out recently. If you account for indoor space as well as outdoor space, the game will be bigger than Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas, and GTA IV COMBINED
I love huge map, open world games!

Funny thing is the gameplay isn't that much worse than the one on the PS3.

That's the beauty of it! You will legitimately be able to play GTA V for over a year, easily. :good2:
R* could charge $100 for this game. People would pay it, and it would be worth it.
Black Ops II anyone?
I didn't buy it, but I'm curious if anyone did and what they think of it. I might buy it if the zombies are good(I hated Blops zombies), otherwise I hate the multiplayer on Blops.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Halo 4. I bought it on Sunday after sampling it a couple times at a buddy's house. I really enjoy it. I've mostly just played the campaign mode since I bought it and the campaign is fantastic. The story line is really good, the new bad guys (Prometheans IIRC), are designed very well and the graphics are awesome. So far it gets a solid :dup: from me.

My roommate got it this morning. I'll be interested to see how I like it. I didn't like MW3 at all, it was just boring to me. Maybe I'm just burned out on the series after the ungodly amount of time I put into MW2 freshman year

MW3 was ok, I didn't hate it. The first Blops was terrible, IMO. Which is why I didn't rush out to pre-order Blops II. Still love MW2, I still play that every once in awhile.

Black Ops was such a massive disappointment for me that I will not be purchasing it until I get significant time to test BO 2, especially since I still have (and play) MW3 and just bought Halo 4.
I liked Black Ops alright. Didn't love it, didn't hate it. Zombies was fun. I thought it was better than MW3
Just played 2 games of BO2, roommate's PS3 freaked out so now we have to install some update. The 2 games I played were fun. I like the way BO2 looks graphically, looks nicer than MW3 or even MW2. The new menu system for custom classes makes it feel like a new game.
I don't fully understand the custom classes yet.But it looks like you have 10 "points" to use within your custom classes, which can go towards perks and attachments. So you can have more "secondary" perks in lieu of attachments on guns. At least that's the way it appears.
See, I hated Blops zombies. I still play World at War zombies for that reason. If you play Blops II zombies, let me know. That would be probably the only reason I would buy the game.

We played one game of Zombies while the servers were acting up. Not a whole lot different from the last one, from what I could tell.
I'm having a blast with the multiplayer, though!
One of my facebook friends that I met while playing MW2 in college wrote an absolutely scathing review of BLOP2. He's an pro gamer and just haaaaaaaaaates the gameplay of Black Ops 2. Said Halo 4 is significantly better. :confused2:
You can't compare Halo and COD. Apples and oranges. You can prefer one over the other (I've always been a COD guy over Halo), but I feel like they're just too different to say that one is better than the other. IMO

I think he was comparing it as far as Halo 4 vs. previous Halo games and BLOPS2 vs previous CoD games. He said "I'm glad I still have MW3 and didn't trade it in. What a tremendous waste of money." One of his other friends said the zombies on BLOPS2 sucks. I was never a big zombie fan in any of the CoD games so I thought they all sucked

This is why I've gotten out of video games. I don't want to have to think, explore, analyze....I just want to hit a button or two and have fun. Do away with "combo" attacks, having to use 10 buttons, require maps/apps/DLC.......gimme a simple game that will waste my time and escape from the real world. Video games have become "work" and I don't care for it anymore.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

There's something to be said for that.
Games like GTA/Skyrim/etc. can be intimidating. I'm just enjoying the time in my life where I actually have the time to enjoy games like that

Every day after class at college I'd go to my buddy's house and we'd play Mario Kart and occasionally Super Smash Brothers in for an hour or so to unwind from classes and crap. It was a blast. We played N64 version for Mario Kart and usually played the Wii version for Smash. It was an absolute blast. The Rainbow Road on Wii was so insanely difficult. I fell off way too much. My buddy had a regional record for about a month for his track time on Rainbow Road.
On another note, Call of Duty Black Ops II sold a $500 million worth of games in 24 hours. CoD MW3 had the previous record of $400 million.
