I murdered the entire city of Van Horn yesterday cuz I tried to intervene in an argument. Then the arguers decided to pull me off my horse and punch me. So I punched back. I knocked one down and he came back up firing a gun. So I started shooting. Then the entire town decided to shoot me. And now there's a mass grave out back of the saloon in Van Horn ?

Kill them and run away. Get away and relax for a second. Decide to go back on my path o Rhodes. Ride right by a cop. He is already red so I shoot him. His buddy shows up and I kill him too! Next thing I know I am running again and get mowed down by two after they shoot my horse to the point he can barely run!

Long story short...kill someone at the wrong time...$440 bounty 5 minutes later! :D

Sounds like what happened to me when my buddy asked if we could get into the Grey's house at Calliga hall. One misstep lead to a $550 bounty in like 5 minutes. ??

Single. That's part of the reason they can make it so good.

Don't quote me on it, but I'm PRETTY sure you don't get the varmint rifle from a mission, I think you've gotta buy it.

Well, there is an online portion of the game, and you can team up with friends, but you'll be in the world with various other random people who will likely be DBags.

You can't just be in the world with one other person and no other humans, to my knowledge. Although that would be cool!

I had to buy mine. I didn't buy it until the epilogue and did every mission possible so it's probably a safe bet you have to buy it.

Essentially you're correct. There is an online mode. My buddies and I played it one night and did a couple stranger quests and it basically turned into guys who had been playing online for weeks that had all the best guns, etc. killing us three "newbs" (we'd never done any online stuff before) after trying to escort a wagon crew. I like the idea of having other posses being able to attack you while trying to do side quests but they literally killed us for like 10 straight minutes even after they destroyed the wagons we were trying to escort.

If another player kills you 3 or 4 straight times you can parley with them which basically makes you invisible to them for 10-15 minutes. But then you're back on their radar.

It was kinda douchey. I'm hoping they will make a change to that at some point.

Also, (4th straight post), for those short on cash that have bounties: a super easy way to rack up cash once you've unlocked the emerald ranch? Ride around there for a day and steal a bunch of wagons. You get like 25 bucks for beat up ones (aka ones you drive into stuff or take off-roading) and like 40 for pristine ones. I just nabbed 7 in one "day" on RDR time.

I have been in Mexico for the last week. Get back tomorrow night and have 2 days off before I go back to work so I plan to catch up. I am like 13% through.

One thing I struggle with is the shooting. I know it is a generation thing with video games because we are down here with 5 other couples and 3 of them play it and the youngest guy is really good at shooting. I just aim and fire and release the aim button and fire again. I don’t know how anyone has the ability to get headshots to get the check marks on missions? Maybe one day I will figure it out...

Do you know that it auto aims for you when you hold the left trigger in, to aim? It locks on to the target's center of gravity, so to get headshots, I hold the left trigger in to aim, and slightly move your aim up while squeezing the right trigger to shoot.

Of course, dead eye is the best/easiest way to get headshots, too.

I did not know that. I know that when you release the trigger and pull it again, it locks on to the nearest object, I guess maybe that is the same thing.

I have only used dead eye twice I think.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. So releasing and pulling the trigger locks on for you.

But yeah, you should definitely make use of dead eye. It's great for getting out of jams!

I am approaching the endgame it seems...I mean Dutch is full on loony now and Arthur has seen better days. Meanwhile some Saint Cloud fans (Murfees Brood) keep trying to ambush me and I have to kill them in mass quantities. ;)

Yeah the dream catchers and dinosaur bones are very much a side thing.

Don't spend time actively looking for them without a house showing you where they are, you'll go crazy. Just keep it in the back of your mind, and you'll stumble across some as you play the game.

I'm at ~90% completion and still don't have the dinosaur bones and dream catchers done.

When looking for headshots, I did what GG13 did most of the time. Pull left trigger, right stick up a bit, pull trigger. No more head. Lather, rinse, repeat.

When in large groups, deadeye tag a bunch of heads and pull the trigger once and you'll kill errrbody. The tagging feature in deadeye is great once you get it unlocked.

The dinosaur bones are a massive pain in the ass and not worth searching exhauatingly for. I stumbled upon 10-15 just randomly exploring during the standard story. There are 5-ish you can't find until the epilogue. Using the eagle eye feature is almost the only way to find them. Some of them are super easy to find. Others I'd have no idea how to find if people hadn't told me where they were.

The dreamcatchers aren't AS bad but you have to use eagle eye a lot.

Those missions are ongoing. Dont waste time on them until you have explored the whole map. Stick to the yellow missions or you will never get things done.

It highlights living things, things you can inspect/open/loot (like lock boxes, chests, etc.), plants you can pick and eat/store for different potions and recipes for food. It also highlights dinosaur bones and dreamcatchers.

You've gotta be within a certain distance for it to work for some of them (like rare flowers, dinosaur bones, and dreamcatchers).

The bones and dreamcatchers will have yellow highlights and "dust" floating up from them.

The "eagle eye" is what you use to track/locate things. You activate it by pushing in the left and right sticks simultaneously.

It's useful for tracking animals, but it also highlights action items. I use it sometimes if I'm robbing/looting a house, it will highlight all the things in a room that can be looted (cabinets, drawers, chests, etc).

It's also very useful if you're trying to track down plants for crafting. Harvestable plants will have these spore cloud looking things around them. So if you're riding around and see a bunch of bushes, you can go into eagle eye, and if they're highlighted with a bunch of glowing spores around them, you know that's a plant you can harvest.

Edit: had this reply open for a while as I was distracted by something at work. So in summary, yes, what Beauner said LoL

Deadeye and eagle eye are slightly different. Both settings slow down time/movement (particularly of animals/people) but deadeye won't highlight actionable parts of the game.

I miss playing MarioKart after class in college. Every day after classes were done I'd wander over to my buddy's house for some MarioKart battles.

Right -- as of now there's no option that I know of to make the server private, so you're stuck with others (who tend to shoot anything that spawns).

Not yet. I haven't played as much of late, and I've just been working on crafting stuff before the end of the main story. I will likely work on all the challenges once I've finished. Are the hunting challenges as "fun" as they were in RDR? I remember the cougar challenge in that, where you had to kill 2 of them with your knife. I remember using a weak weapon to wound them first before taking them down with the knife. I also especially loved the killing a bear with the knife challenge :)

Just happened upon this cougar outside of a cabin north of Annesburg in Roanoke Ridge. I was searching the cabin for loot when I heard the distinct sound of the cougar growling outside. I fully expected to get ambushed leaving the place, but lucky for me it was on the other side of the road so I finished it off without issue.

I hate those things. Can't wait to do the challenges involving them lol..

Have you gotten to the hunting challenge with the cougar aspect yet?

I would recommend trying to do some of the challenges before you finish the main story. Some of them will be much easier that way.

Im up to 99.2% completion on RDR2 now.

I'm on sharpshooter challenge 9 and weapons expert 6. The weapons expert 6 has been a massive PITA.

RDR2 question. I did the thing where I needed to talk to the 4 old sharpshooters, and take their pictures. Now, after I have all 4 done, do I have to go find that author again? I went back to that same saloon I found him in, and he wasn't there. Not sure if I need to seek him out, or if that side mission is done now that I took the pictures. Similarly, for the dinosaur bones, how do I give the information to the archeologist? It said something about mailing her the info, but I have no idea how to do that.

There is more to the mission. It will pop up again in Chapter 4 I think.

The gunslinger author side mission will pop up again later at some point with the author's initials. No need to search him out cuz I don't think you'll find him. I think he reappeared for me in chapter 4 or 5 if I remember right. I was in Saint Denis.

As for the dinosaur bones - you can go to any post office after finding bones and it will offer you the option "Send Mail" and the locations will be there to send out.

Ok, thanks for the help.

I'm at the point where I've done all of the main mission things, except for having to go back to Blackwater, and have been putting that off. Still in Chapter 2.

I did those gunslinger missions pretty quickly too. The pistols you can pick up from them are awesome.

I'm using 2 of the pistols right now. Picked up all 3, but at some point, I lost one. Not sure how, or when, but I was back to the cattlemen's revolver, and the other one was gone, and I couldn't switch back to it. Then I got the other 2, and just use those, but still wish I had the 3rd one I lost.

I also found the pump action shotgun, which makes killing people much more efficient.

I used Flaco's revolver and Granger's revolver almost exclusively, until I created a couple customized guns that I rotated. After the epilogue you can find another elite pistol or two that I use now.

You have to cultivate plants? Do you get a rash if you forget to wipe too?
