Okra🤢
I make gumbo a couple times a year and no longer add okra. Whenever I did find fresh (sorta fresh??) in a store it didn't seem to add anything other than slime. I will stick with filé powder. One of the first times I made gumbo I made the mistake of adding frozen okra, HUGE mistake.

Filé powder is definitely the way to go. Get the thickening power of that okra slime... but, without the okra slime.
