Yeah unfortunately they have to do this or risk being reprimanded. I worked at a smaller bank a long time ago and it wasn’t as bad but we had a quota to meet.I had to go to my bank today for an in person transaction (Huntington). and the guy at the desk told me he had 3 promotions to discuss with me. I said no thanks, I just want my money. He proceeded to go through each one word for word with a smile and at the end of each he told me he understands I decline the promotion. I actually asked him to stop and give me my money and he continued as if I had made no request. I actually turned my head to make it obvious I was not listening, not considering the promotion.
After he finished, he counted out my money and had the nerve to give me his card (he was the bank manager) in case I wanted to discuss and banking needs. I told him to keep his card, and that I just wanted my money and wasn't interested in anything else and walked out.
I am seriously considering closing all accounts, but I am not sure other banks are any different. I am also not sure I want to give up my totally free checking I've had for 30 years.
After my first "I don't want to hear about the offers" if they say anything more about them, my answer would be "Who do I talk to to close out my accounts?"Yeah unfortunately they have to do this or risk being reprimanded. Anyone else getting random spam texts like “Hey” or “Hi” and that’s it? I simply respond “Bye” and then block them.
Also getting weird ones like “Hey, we haven’t seen a movie in a while”

Yeah, getting some cash from your bank shouldn't be a high-pressure sales situation like when the finance guy tries to sell you an extended warranty at a car dealership. I did have to threaten to walk out on a sale to get one guy to stop.
@idontknow I rarely go into the bank but when I do it’s amazing how empty they are except for the tellers. Most of the offices and cubicles are empty

I would rather stand on a highway exit ramp with a sign and cup before I would take any job with a quota.

Same experience for me. But it's kind of what they wanted. They push everything to be online so they could cut employees and now they have a bunch of empty space.
We used to bank at Wells Fargo. A few years ago the same thing would happen to me, sales pitch after sales pitch. One time they said " I notice you bought something on eBay, we have an amount for that". I kept telling them I was not interested every time. I told them to add a note to my account to never ask me again. The next time they asked I withdrew all my money I had in their bank that day... Now most of our banking is done online except for the local bank in our hometown.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
Honestly if you want to do normal everyday banking without having to interact with the tellers there’s plenty of technology that allows one to do so. You don’t need to go into a bank to deposit or withdraw money unless you’re pulling out like $10k or something.
I have banked at Wells Fargo for years, went weekly to get my cash money via personal check to myself. They gave up on "upselling" me or trying to get me to get a debit card decades ago.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

Been with Wells Fargo since they've existed in Minnesota and have never experienced that. Weird.

yes, I get those a lot. They say just “hi” or, “when will you be free” or something random but never saying who they are. Don’t answer because then they for sure know you’re a live number. Block and report as junk. It’s all spam.
If it's an "unknown number" I don't answer.
1. If it's important enough, they leave a message.
OR
2. They'll call back or contact me in another manner.

Went into a Wells the past 2 falls to help set the kids up with accounts for college and there was no attempt to upsell me a single thing either time. We went to the Wayzata branch and the Mtka branch at 101 and Hwy 7. I also used the Ridgedale branch for a M.O. that I needed for a visa renewal and again no one tried to sell me anything.
My Wells Fargo experience ended in 2010. Maybe it was a market thing as it occurred at multiple locations in the Sioux Falls area.

Been with Norwest/Wells Fargo since moving to Minnesota in 1994. Never had a problem or never been pestered for an upsale.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Been with Wells Fargo for about 10 years here in Mankato. They used to be terrible about trying to sell you something no matter if you went in the lobby or went through the drive thru. The pandemic broke them of doing that, pretty much all they say to you now is if there is anything else they can do went the transaction is done. I can handle that.
I will probably switch away from Wells when mortgage rates come back to earth though. Overall the experience with them is not good. We don't mind the app or online bill pay but we back at Bank Vista as well and the experience there is much better.
I do laugh at Wells Fargo though because about every six weeks I get a letter about refinancing my mortgage at the "latest and greatest rate"...which is over twice as much as what my current mortgage rate is at...yeah, no thanks.

Having been in retail in my prior work life, I do understand the up sell. I never had a problem with it on certain things like.. do you need the batteries for that item, or an accessory that would help, or pointing out a sale that would benefit the customer. I HATED when we had a credit card push when we would have a quota to sign up so many new card members (I would half heartily ask) and especially HATED when we had signs up at the registers that said " If we don't ask you about XXX, you get a free XXX". Needless to say merchandising and managing people was my strength, pushing add on sales was not. ?

Vending beer at the stadiums they use to preach up sell. up sell, up sell... "would you like peanuts or seeds with that beer"... blah blah. It does work at times. Though with stadiums prices already being high and if someone wants peanuts or seeds, they are going to ask. Though they really haven't preached the up sell since a year or two prior to the pandemic.

Had to go to the teller at Huntington to get some specific cash denominations today and was prepared for the spiel but just got a hello and a have a nice weekend. It was a cub branch so maybe they aren’t as hardcore.
I’ve not had any issues with tcf/Huntington and haven’t had a reason to switch…yet…
I hear ya, I did it more out of necessity in 2011 when I struggled to find entry level work based on my college degree.Yeah unfortunately they have to do this or risk being reprimanded. I worked at a smaller bank a long time ago and it wasn’t as bad but we had a quota to meet.

And yeah, I’ve never really had issues with Huntington either but I also never go in there. Prob just depends on the guy you’re talking to.
Dealt with Huntington for my car loan. They almost didn't give me one, since I had little credit history (my only other loan was 16 years prior, so it was off the books). Dealership said, "He's lived in the same place for 11 years, had the same job for 16 years, he buys what he can afford." Gee, common sense. 😉 I got the loan.
And paid the 6 year loan off in 4 years.

At Fort Snelling paying our respects and continuing the tradition that started with my niece and nephew and now with my family. And some lady brings her dog and has it running around the cemetery. Leave your dog home or in your vehicle with the a/c on.

We have two ponds behind our house. One is fairly large. In every other year we have probably close to 100 geese (including goslings) and dozens of mallards, with a few wood docks mixed in. It is a very popular place for geese and ducks to raise families.
I enjoy watching them as I work from home.
This year we have zero. Not one goose or duck. I did see 3 ducklings swimming in the pond last weekend without a mom or dad in sight. I doubt they're still alive.
This is very bizarre.
If I recall someone last spring mentioned the same thing near their house or work. I've noticed the same at one of the clinics I worked at. The pond was full of wild life in a couple years ago, they all left and nothing is there now days.
Keep your stick on the ice...
Maybe they moved to a private pond so they could get a catholic education
Twitter.
I don't want to get into the politics of Elon Musk, but Twitter itself has gone downhill since he took over. My feed is now flooded with shopping ads for companies that seem like spam. My in-box is flooded with spam messages and I get at least one or two mystery follower a day that I immediately block.
lots of pretty girls have followed me lately so I’ve got that going!Twitter.

Once again...cancer sucks. Lisa Brinkmeyer was the last big star of the six on six basketball era in Iowa. She was the last to make the transition from that to five player b-ball and became a star and leader for Drake women's basketball for former Drake coach now Iowa coach Lisa Bluder. She is from the metropolis of Hubbard, Iowa which is only down the road from my hometown. Her celebration of life is being held at the gym where she helped her 6 on 6 team win plenty of games.

They found the sub, unfortunately, looks like a complete implosion:

I'm seeing reports that the owner said "Safety is a waste"... which would definitely qualify for this thread.
On the "plus" side, with that kind of implosion, none of them had time to suffer, it would have been over before they realized it started.

After watching a You Tube video of a train tank car implode by 1 atmosphere of pressure...I can't imagine what happened to that submersible at nearly 400 atmospheres. They were lucky to find the tail cone to identify the wreckage.

Maybe that viewing bubble rated for 1300 psi wasn't the best idea for depths with water pressure of 5,000+ psi... There may be a few lawsuits.
I say Darwinism at its finest. Pretty sad though, especially for their families. A lot of lessons learned and I bet we see some new rules and regulations regarding the expeditions of homemade nautical equipment.

Does every neighborhood have 1 moron who’s still shooting off fireworks and how are they paying for all of them?
It should be punishable by prison time to still shoot off fireworks...

I do not understand why car tabs will be available at Cub foods to purchase on a kiosk
Aloha!
Why does improving this service stick in your craw?
It would be a convenience to those who need them and it would likely free up the DMV to process documents that need to be done face to face.
I have to imagine the only people who buy tabs in person these days are retired seniors, super procrastinators, and the Rube. The rest of us order online and get them in the mail.
- Wisconsin has had those kiosks for years
