I had never heard of this group until the were part of the opening act at the recent Grammy Awards. Checked then out and have purchased a couple of their albums. Good, gritty blues-rock. Check 'em out!
The Top 10 from this week in 1979, and then re-calculating a new Top 10 today based upon total lifetime streams:
New single from the Black Crowes. Good to see the brothers Robinson kicking some A together again:

Digging their music, did NOT expect that look for her or the band.

Aerosmith announces their retirement citing Steven Tyler's vocal cord injury recovery issues.
As with any band that has had the longevity as Aerosmith I will tip my hat to them. Overall I'm not a big fan of their work but you can't count them out as one of the most influential American rock bands. While rap rock got a bad name in the late 90's/early 00's, that genre may not have happened without the collaboration of Run DMC and Aerosmith.

Someone made mention of the The Wallets on FB and it brought back so many memories of the local music scene back in the day. The Wallets, The Suburbs, Husker Du, The Replacements, Soul Asylum, Babes in Toyland, Tina & The B-sides, The Time, Prince (before he blew up), Trip Shakespeare, and surely others I've missed.
Atmosphere...

Love those guys. But if mentioned in any way related to my previous post they were not around in the 80's. 😀

Linkin Park reemerges with new lineup

I'm not sure how I feel about this. I have my own opinions about bands that continue after the passing of a band mate. Chester was the face of Linkin Park but by no means was the only person that made that train roll down the tracks. I'm not surprised that Shinoda and Hahn decided to move forward with a different iteration of LP because it was no secret they've been working on something the last seven years.

Navarro and Farrell still don’t get along.

I heard while listening to their Anthology 3 release, that Rocky Raccoon originally came from Minnesota but it was later changed to Dakota. I wonder if Paul was familiar with the Rocky and Bullwinkle show at the time of writing it. Incidentally he wrote the bulk of the song when they were on sabbatical in India, but you wouldn't pick up on that at all when listening to the song. It's obviously a very Americana/folksy sounding tune.

If Jay Ward had known this he would have demanded The Beatles sue him and insist the lyrics be changed to include Mooslvania!

I asked my wife this yesterday, but who would you name as the weakest link in the Travelling Wilburys?

I asked my wife this yesterday, but who would you name as the weakest link in the Travelling Wilburys?
Oof that’s tough.
I was forced to frame this as a different question (who had the biggest impact) in my mind to get to an answer I still don’t like.
I think a lot of people would say Jeff Lynne, but I can’t with the whole project being his and George’s idea. The name is even a play on what Jeff would typically say when he’d hear a bad note when recording. “We’ll bury it in the mix.”
After thinking long and hard from a few different perspectives, I keep landing on Tom Petty. Which I hate because I really like Tom Petty, and I can’t imagine “End of the Line” with anyone else singing the chorus.
Petty is an underrated song writer.
It’s like determining the weakest link on Detroit’s Russian line….there wasn’t one

Each member of the Wilbury's have/had their strengths and their two albums kind of showcase that. I think people who really don't know Jeff Lynne and his catalog would say he is the weak link but really dig into what he has done in his lifetime as a performer and producer and it's impressive. Putting him along with his good friend George Harrison, genius himself and probably the most underrated Beatle, made the Wilbury's short successful history what it is.
I think this question of who the weak link can get mixed up with who was your favorite Wilbury and then you rank them in a list which isn't really proper. For instance I don't like Bob Dylan's singing at all. I got to see him perform here in Mankato when I worked as an usher. I saw him...checked that box, don't need to see him again. That said...I do understand his place in the music world, he matters and his music does as well. It's like some on GPL who don't like Prince and what he and his music left as a legacy in the history of music.
So I can appreciate each Wilbury and I don't believe any of them to be a weak link.
