Caitlin "effing" Clark. That's the post.
The entire world of women's sports seems to be locked in on her and she just rises above any negative situation. She has a bad game, nothing but calm in her responses to the media...then gets rookie of the month for the first month of the season in the WNBA. Chennedy Carter roughs her up after CC talks smack on the other end of the court, CC responds to the situation by saying the W is a tough league with tough competition. Finally CC is left off the Olympic roster, CC responds by saying that the roster is tough to make and it gives her something to work toward for the next cycle.
The media keeps trying to crack the code to get CC to crumble during interviews and CC keeps rising above every. single. time. I love how much the media works on her and how much social media, on both sides of the argument for and against her, focuses on her. When she gets a coach and a team around her...watch out.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Well, Joey Chestnut can't participate in the Nathan's Hot Dog Contest this year, so apparently:
Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi, two of the world’s most famous competitive eaters, will participate in the ultimate hot dog-eating contest live on Netflix on Labor Day.

I watched one of these about 25 years ago and haven't watched one since. I do not understand the appeal
Joey Chestnut is now a paid spokesman for Impossible Meats. Nathans banned him from the contest 😂Well, Joey Chestnut can't participate in the Nathan's Hot Dog Contest this year, so apparently:

A similar situation with Kobayashi; contract obligations. This is Godzilla/Kong, no pun/relation intended.

I cannot believe people actually watch that. I watched one time only about 20 years ago and have zero desire to watch it ever again.
My latest simple pleasure is we've booked a trip to Movenpick Resort on Boracay Island for next month.

Definitely must miss TV for me.

Half the media does...the other half takes any transgression against her and makes it into the story of the century! Hard fouls are dissected like the Zapruder Film for days on end (Rookie gets pushed around by vets...in other news water is wet and North Dakota has no trees!!) and dont even get me started on the 1058787 hours of breathless discussion on her not being on the Olympic Team and how big a tragedy that is. Some in the media are treating her like she is a fragile little flower that must be nurtured and protected at all costs. For some reason there are some that want to both infantilize her and make her into a symbol of something she just isn't.
Props to her though for staying out of the fray and just doing her job. It has to be friggin frustrating to be in that position and have everything scrutinized to such a ridiculous level so early in your pro career.
@handyman You know I can see why the veteran players may have some grizzled views of Caitlin, she hasn't done anything yet as a professional and yet the world is fixated on her and just about every headline about the WNBA includes her. The Olympic crap is just over the top, and Team USA will be more than fine without her. Honestly, CC could probably use the break since she has been going constantly since last fall when college season started.

I didn’t watch the WNBA before this year. Just sayin’

Same here. This rookie draft class has changed the leagues outreach.
Still haven't. I did watch some PWHL though.

Agreed. And normally the grizzled vets hate the new flashy star anyways and haze the crap out of them. It will be ten times worse with CC though because of all the media scrutiny and politics playing in. (obviously I am leaving that out on this board) She has to earn her stripes still and then the players will respect her.
Its just so cliche and cheesy. Players on her own team don't get upset over the fouls (and dish out the same type of hits) and yet every sports "journalist" treats it like she is getting Todd Bertuzzied every game and everyone else is playing patty cake! Its just bizarre.
Thankfully she has the class most of the commentators lack.
"On Thursday, Caitlin Clark was asked by a reporter to clarify comments she’d made earlier in the day, when she said she “can’t control” people weaponizing her name in talking about racism and misogyny.
“It’s disappointing,” she replied.
“I think everybody in our world deserves the same amount of respect. The women in our league deserve the same amount of respect. So, people should not be using my name to push those agendas. It’s disappointing." https://cnn.it/45rbse r"
Like I said...good on her!
True… but a lot of these veteran WNBA players being envious, jealous & bitter because of the UNPRECEDENTED attention Caitlin Clark (as an individual player) is bringing to the WNBA & the corresponding 💵 she is generating…is beyond short sighted, petty & obtuse. Since when is life fair (to all individuals)? Deal with it, appreciate the added 💵 & quit complaining.@handyman You know I can see why the veteran players may have some grizzled views of Caitlin, she hasn't done anything yet as a professional and yet the world is fixated on her and just about every headline about the WNBA includes her. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there!
Restaurant/bar managers that actively, in person, seek out customers' feedback, good or bad, to improve any aspect of the business, as in sit down and have a bigger conversation than: how's everything today?
I have mentioned Pink Ivy in Hopkins in the restaurant thread, and the Sunday Group I hang out with around Hopkins went in there today, and they had about 3-4 new whiskeys, some based on our recommendations (the bar mgr is a whiskey nut, also, I guess, and per co-owner, he has generally agreed with our choices). The co-owner has always picked our brains (and has had general small talk convos about the business) every time we've gone.

I actually find this more funny than anything. Several weeks ago I put the pallet at the front of our driveway and using torx screws, screwed down a 1x4 board inside the plastic bin onto the crate. My wife filled it free books. Over the last couple weeks, people would come by and take out books and we would fill it back up. Sometimes people would try to pick up the plastic bin, realizing it’s screwed down. Though this past Friday, someone can by and unscrewed the torx screws I used and took the plastic bin and books. Most people just don’t have a torx bit screwdriver or drill in their vehicle. Almost makes me think someone came by once and returned with the appropriate bit and took it trying to be funny.

I just finished reading the book The Women, about nurses in Vietnam. Riveting. Icebergs post about Northern Exposure made me think of China Beach. I loved that show. Unfortunately it’s not streaming anywhere because of music copyright issues. I’d love to rewatch that series.

it wasn’t me, but that’s just douchey. You need to screw it down with several different kinds of screws. 😂 And set up a camera so you can catch the douchebag. Do any of your neighbors have cameras that might have caught the perp?

If I recall, The Women was one of the books in that bin of ours... 😉

Dammit. For a split-second after I first read that I thought I had you on a Romeo Void reference.
Simple pleasure: knowing said reference. 😀

Shark week starts in just under 10 hours! It’s maybe lost some of its new crazy but never gets old to me!
Fighting a small stomach bug to savor this location this week:

@greyeagle I have a 1998 Glastron 235 with the 5.7 Merc. Here is a pic if it when we were redoing the wiring and breaks this spring. My son works at a place with the right equipment. Totally lifted it off the trailer and set it on stands for a weekend.
