I have a hard time believing anyone that's been to or watched a sporting event in the past 15 years has never heard that song. But in general that's a pretty cool concept and I've watched a few over the years.
He clarified that he maybe heard it once but wasn’t familiar with the band or song structure.

For the past few months I have been babying our furnace which is about 30 years old and on its last leg. It was tripping a code and then would not run for a while so I would wake up and it would be 60 inside our house. My father in law is going to help us replace it and add and AC unit along with it next September, but my uncle came over and helped me get it in the best working condition its been in since I bought this house. Finally I can run a program and it will cooperate with me.
Leaving on trips has been especially stressful because I cannot reset it remotely, but I feel like the weight of all the frozen pipes in the world has been lifted off my shoulders right now.

Same. Our furnace is the original for the house (1998). So it could go today or in 5 years. I just to do my part by not making it have to work harder then it has to. Though Sunday afternoon I thought we might be having issues. It felt real cool in the house, cool for me. So I check the thermostat and it read 60. Then I see the A/C is on. The middle kid felt warm and decided to take matters in his own hands. After nice little discussion with him of why we don't run the A/C when it's in the negatives we eventually got to heat up to 70.

The St. Paul Civic Centre had the legendary glass boards. Does anyone remember when Montreal didn’t have glass between the players bench and fans. I had to look up the last year they didn’t have the glass. 1997 the second year of the Bell Centre.

As a father of a special needs daughter, this video made my heart smile and brought a tear to my eye. Browning (Mt.) Indians Boys' Basketball makes a special need opponent from Polson (Mt) day in the closing seconds of the game. Browning is one of my high school's (Cut Bank) archrivals especially in basketball. So, this video is extra special!!!

Funny how sometimes a little treat to yourself can hit. When we were in Thailand I finally convinced my wife to let me upgrade her iPad for her. While shopping I eyed a Samsung tablet for myself but didn't buy it at the time.
A few weeks later here in the Philippines I saw the same device was on sale by $50 and it was already being offered at a lower price.
I never thought I'd want one since I use my laptop so often, but this thing is so much better than my phone and I feel like a little kid at Christmas.

Wait somebody was able to play off their student loan? The U is obvious not charging enough interest if this is happening. 😉 After all student loans/interest rates are a great way for colleges to keep getting paid long after they are done providing you with an education. Universities aka loan sharks.
If cowgirl's student loan was paid off last year this money could have gone to NIL resulting in Cooley still being on the team. 🤔
Congratulations on paying off your student loan that is a HUGE deal.

thanks! I’m pretty excited about it, although I consider myself extremely lucky to have graduated before interest rates really jumped. For most of the loan I had a 1.625% interest rate (that was after a rate decrease for not missing three years of payments). I cannot imagine how awful it would be to go through eight years at this prestigious university today. 😳

Went out for Middle Eastern today and for only the 1st time in 9 years found a restaurant that does proper shawarma. There is plenty of very good ME, Mediterranean and Indian food here, but shawarma had been the white whale. Rarely do I find that they get the wrap, the meat, the sauce and the vegetables 100% right but this place has done it.

No prob! Also, I found the other thread that said to turn notifications back on to stop thread notifications - I did not get an email but still got a notification someone posted in this thread. If that helps anything…🤷♀️
You will always get a notification from a thread you started. What I was trying to fix was mentions.

Left the office early tonight and on the the way home stopped at a 711. There were 6 very disheveled kids - none that looked older than 10 - hanging out in the parking lot. I asked them if they were hungry and they all emphatically said yes.
I asked them to come in and each pick a meal and drinks. They were super polite and only asked for a 1 piece chicken and rice meal and water. None of them even thought of taking more. When it was done they all without prompting sincerely said thanks.
We volunteer weekly here at an orphanage and I'm always reminded of how simple it can be to give back to those less fortunate. My father to this day at the age of 84 volunteers weekly at Fishes and Loaves downtown and he instilled that mindset in me at an early age. He's been a wonderful mentor in my life and I thought of him as the kids eyes lit up when I approached them.

B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
Goalies have come a long way in 44 years lol!
Watching the game vs USSR tonight and thinking two things:Goalies have come a long way in 44 years lol!
Imagine taking last year's Gophers team and just dropping them straight into the 1980 Olympics (need to find an American Goalie, though)... how many times does that team USA get into double-digit goals?
And, a thought about the crowd... was Jamie Farr actually a hockey fan, or simply someone (a VERY well known celebrity at the time, of course) that showed up to support the team? (Either is, of course, perfectly acceptable).
Edit: As I was finishing this... found an interview with him, and apparently he had LA Kings Season tickets for at least a while, so, must be somewhat of a fan.

Few and far between. That era of USSR hockey was so ahead of its time...I really wish Tretiak had the heart to join the NHL, but he was too old (or getting there) and the Red Army experience took away his love of the game at that point in his life. 🙁 That guy was unreal between the pipes (yes, the team in front helped, but you can recognize a great goalie when you see one).
The Red Army was THE template for modern day hockey, overall. They simply changed the game.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
I completely realize that the USSR of that day changed the game, but, just watching the level of skill/athleticism/etc, I suspect that double-digits wouldn't have been unusual.Watching the game vs USSR tonight and thinking two things:Goalies have come a long way in 44 years lol!

Was Tretiak likely the best goalie in the world at the time? Probably. But, while they were the TEMPLATE for modern hockey, the subsequent 40 years of development/training/refinement on that template would have a huge impact.

It's the age-old argument of generations of sport. I really don't think that specific era of the Red Army would give up double digit goals, they would adjust their system in-game and prevent that. The reason? It's not a player-based plan, it's a plug and play system.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.
Addendum: Hell, they might have resorted to the Lemaire trap-style years before it actually happened. That team didn't care about style, they cared about wins.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

If you're talking about taking the Gopher team with current equipment, training, coaching, etc, and time machining them to 1980? The Gopher team takes that tournament apart pretty easily.I completely realize that the USSR of that day changed the game, but, just watching the level of skill/athleticism/etc, I suspect that double-digits wouldn't have been unusual.Watching the game vs USSR tonight and thinking two things:Goalies have come a long way in 44 years lol!

Lets talk the next gen, post 1980.

I maintain that it would take another miracle to beat that Red Army team, until the USSR was forced to break up. I am just saying, that program was insanity.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Now, if you take that 1980 USSR team and give them the same equipment, training, coaching (and the coaching of today is absolutely a development of what that team had way before anyone else), and that story changes again.
Just look at how Goalies back then played vs now.
