I am in Hawaii right now to bad I can’t take a photo we have a complete circle rainbow around the sun right now
Did you borrow Rube's phone for the trip?
Came home last night from a completely relaxing four day weekend in Duluth with my wife and son. Had great sunny weather where you only needed to wear a hoodie. Saw the first two ships come into the harbor for the season. Just did a lot of things and showed our son plenty of the sights. Snow made the hikes to Enger Tower and Gooseberry Falls a little more exciting but not impossible.
We watched...okay I watched the Gophers win Saturday night while we played some cards in Hoops Brewery. I bought a couple crowlers to drink while watching them in Frozen Four next weekend so I keep things square with the universe in that respect. ?
Overall though it was a great weekend and I look for our trip back up this fall.

Another trip I'd suggest is heading all the way up to the Lutsen/Grand Marais area in the summer. The Lutsen ski resorts (the ones not on the lake) are reasonably priced in the summer and you can see a whole other set of waterfalls and state parks further up. Grand Marais has its own charm too. If you have passports you can also venture into Ontario and see Kakabeka Falls (google it - it's pretty impressive).
You can then also hit some of the Duluth stuff on the way up and back.

That is actually my plan. We did go to Split Rock while we were in the area at Gooseberry. I showed my wife some of the sites online around Lutsen/Grand Marais and she is all on board for going there on our next excursion north.

The Iowa women's basketball team making the championship game by beating the previously undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks and much ballyhooed Aliyah Boston. Caitlin Clark quieted the skeptics that were challenging her receiving all the player of the year awards over Boston with a line of 41 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds to Boston's 8 points, 3 assists, and 10 rebounds.
I don't watch basketball but I have kept up with the Caitlin Clark storyline this season and she has put on a clinic all year. I do realize that the landscape of women's basketball would be different with a healthy Paige Bueckers on the court for UConn though. It would be a hell of a matchup to watch those two teams and players go at each other.
I'll probably watch the chipper vs. LSU tomorrow to see if the Iowa ladies can finish it off. I would really like to see Coach Lisa Bluder get a title, she has been a mainstay as a successful women's coach both at Iowa and Drake and universally loved in the state of Iowa.

My son’s State Jr. Bible Quiz meet was today. His team took 3rd only losing to the 2nd place team in the morning round robin and the eventual State Champs in the semi’s. In the 3rd/4th place match they beat a team that had beaten them every time in the regular season meets. It was probably the teams best match all season. As well as my son’s best. He placed 11th individually and he had two bad matches in the round robin or he would have place much higher.

Personally I would take Caitlin Clark over a healthy Paige Bueckers. Lisa Bluder used her very effectively last night vs. South Carolina. With Clark’s off the ball play and get in the ball to Clark on the fly. Didn’t give South Carolina time to defend her. Bluder out coached Dawn Staley from the tip-off.

Now that it's finally warm out I drove home on the highway with the windows down. Something about doing that at night is truly a simple pleasure.

Oh yes! Or the first day you can throw open the windows in the house and get out all the winter stale air.
Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.
99% of the basement remodel is done. Just have to hang stuff back on the walls in the new guest room. 2/3 of the garage is finally insulated and OSB. Priming and painting this weekend... then get all the tool racks and garage décor back on the wall, so I can finally have my 3rd stall back after 4 months of projects!!!

Easter Sunday was the prefect day for that. Along with having 19 people over, having open windows and doors through out the house was very refreshing.

Stopped at Nacho's (Hopkins Mexican place) today for lunch. Asked for the small plastic cup to get some of their hot sauce on my to-go order. Guy asked, "Oh, you like hot?" "Yes." he brought out a cup of some hot sauce from the back that was even hotter. They don't even have that out front. Man, it was good and tasty. But dang, that stuff cleared your sinuses for sure.
The hottest they have out front:

Had a package delivered to the wrong address, post office couldn't legally tell me where it was delivered (one number had been switched, was all they could say). Did some internetting on possible addresses, I deduced it was delivered across the street to another MASSIVE apt complex (4-5 buildings). Ran into an employee, thank goodness, and he led me to the correct building and got my package for me. That man is a saint.

In the last hour I've come across references to John Pinette's "you been here four hour" Chinese buffet bit as well as Rudy Stein's reluctance to lean into a pitch. My day is complete.

While it wouldn't fly today, that Pinette bit was HILARIOUS. While not.....of Pinette's build, about 5-6 friends of mine would raid Old Country Buffet when it was edible, and eat DOZENS of plates of food. It was pretty much a 5 plate minimum for each of us. Yes, we did get kicked out once.

Hello, metabolism! That part is gone, now. 🙁 I cannot eat like I used to.

Hello, metabolism! That part is gone, now. 🙁 I cannot eat like I used to.
A few years ago, I got food poisoning from a Subway Meatball sub... Lost 14 lbs (from 160 sure felt like a lot) and had to go to the hospital after 3 days of not being able to keep anything down. Was severely dehydrated and had to crawl to the car.
I have never recovered... I used to be able to eat just about whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Now I have to watch and monitor everything. I now get heartburn and indigestion from things I used to eat regularly. My alcohol tolerance tanked, I can have one beer, maybe 2 if they are below 6%. If I open the third (or 2nd a lot of the time) I better be at home, or have a ride home, and I know that tomorrow morning will suck. I cannot do hard alcohol at all. Wine or Champagne is a big coin flip...
I will never eat subway again. My doctors have checked from Chron's (because my symptoms pretty much mirror that), celiacs, and a myriad of other things. No explanation other than subway ruined my digestive system and it is unable to recover. Maybe I should sue... haha.

Maybe that’s really how subway guy (Jared?) lost weight eating subway….
Ugh sorry to hear that though. I used to be able to eat whatever I wanted but then I just got old. Although I read an article not too long ago that it’s really a myth that our metabolism drops as we get older - it’s more that our lifestyle and activity level changes which cause the weight gain most experience with aging. Not sure if completely true…but I sure notice how easily certain changes in my routine affect me vs what I could get away with in my younger years.
If I have alcohol coupled with a lot of salt (think pizza) - I’ll be bloated for days. And then pee and sweat out five pounds in one night. ?♀️
The weight gain, not so much in my case, as many of you can attest to. It's just age.

I don’t know where you read it’s a myth, if it is I’m living the myth! ?. Around 50, and starting menopause (sorry guys, it’s just a fact), I struggle to control my weight. I work out the same, walk even more, didn’t change my diet and it just kept creeping up. Your hormones have a huge influence on weight. I know I now eat less and even better, I border on being vegetarian, I’ve added more strength training and manage to just stay on level. I’ve never lost what I gained, but at least I’m not gaining more. It sucks!

I believe this is the article:
https://www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1276650
Interesting. Don’t believe it, but interesting ?. I guess from personal experience, hormones, or lack there of, really messed me up. Like I said, I’m just as active, actually eating better and suddenly from 50 to 55 I gained almost fifteen pounds I can’t seem to lose. And they’re ALL in my stomach/ass. Do I like the 15? No, I do not, but at least it’s not 50. I’m holding a hard line in the sand, but it’s not easy. I could “diet” for 3-4 days when I was 25 and lose 10 pounds, that isn’t going to happen anymore. So what changed if not metabolism?

Yeah I think this is an area that “needs more research”. Like everything else. ?
I’m not saying I believe it 100% but do think there is validity in that too many people blame metabolism alone and use it as the excuse for weight gain in their mid life years vs. taking a look at how they eat, sleep, exercise, stress levels etc.
You have to be careful about studies in science. Mainly, a single study is interesting, but others scientists need to do additional research to confirm the initial results, often using slightly different methods. Also be careful—typical studies will say that there there is no change because they usually use a 3 sigma distribution as a black and white cutoff to say there is a difference or not. In some areas they will use 5 sigma before they declare that something is ‘different’. Media should pretty much never report on a study on a new subject, or at least point out that additional work needs to be done to verify the information. Many of the studies you read about get tamped down when others look into it. I’m not saying this was wrong or anything, it’s just misleading to put out a story like this as if it were settled science.
But….but… I read it on Al Gore’s interwebs, it must be true!!! ?
Every person is probably different on this one. I've been thin all my life. Now I'm old and I have to eat like a horse to keep from losing weight.Interesting. Don’t believe it, but interesting ?. I would assume there is a lot of components that factor in. I would bet money though that there is a genetic component though that transcends age.

Went up to the observation deck at the Foshay tower before going to Fogo de Cho for lunch. Surprisingly, it was my first time up there in 30 years of being in the downtown Minneapolis area. It is pretty cool seeing some of the views from 30+ stories up.

Forgetting you ordered THREE shirts from a Bills Mafia website, and not TWO shirts. 2nd one came today. 😀 That was a nice surprise when I got home. They have "ordering periods" so they can print the exact amount of shirts, so no surplus; and every purchase donates some $$ to various charities.

The Hi-Lo is great. Went there several times when I lived downtown Mpls. and pre pandemic. The ‘Gary Cooper’ is off the charts. The house made donut with chicken, maple syrup, gravy and onions.

So I’ve mentioned we are currently living in Florence Italy. There are wine stores where you take your empty bottle and they refill it out of giant kegs. They are called tap shops. It is incredibly inexpensive because you are supplying the bottle, sort of like growlers but for wine. The wine choices are really good, it would be a travesty for Italians to serve bad wine. A large liter and a half bottle filled with a Tuscan red cost us €5. As he filled ours a woman came in with literally a ceramic pitcher to be filled. She lives across the street and just walks over to get her wine for meals ?
And our funny observation a couple of days ago: we are in the grocery store were they sell wine, beer and hard liquor. But that day all these signs were posted on the shelves: By Sports Event Public Safety Order we can NOT sell cans or bottles from 9am to close. Seems a large soccer tourney was taking place…that’s one way to deal with rowdy fans?

They’re crazy! I’m sorry we’re going to miss the Florentine event of the year: Calcio Storico.
It’s a “football” game fought between 4 neighborhoods with very few rules. Imagine bare chested bruisers brawling on a sand field. Fists, wrestling, kicking, biting are all acceptable. No player substitutions, so if you can injure the opponent you’re one up. It’s brutal.
There’s several clips on YouTube if you’re in the mood for blood and broken bones.
