I'm an engineer who designs roadways. We always have difficulty getting deer to cross in a safe way including trying to get deer to look both ways before crossing. We are in the process of studying adding deer crossing traffic signals but we are struggling to get deer to push the pedestrian button to get the walk time. Wink :biggrin2:

Wasn’t this phone call from several years ago. I remember hearing this a couple times in the past.

That video made me think of the "F**k you Tony!" voiceover making look like a dog and deer were talking back and forth.

I saw Rube's post on the "The Music Never Stopped" thread about Kacey Musgrave performing nude on SNL. I've actually been able to supplement my income over the decades quite nicely by people paying decent sums of money to keep my clothes on. Of course, I don't count my wife in that because it's not money coming in from the outside. LoL

The Seinfeld episode about good naked vs bad naked was on last night. I love Elaine's line about the female body being a work of art while the male body is utilitarian like a Jeep. It's just for getting around.

Our last night in Johannesburg, we head back home tomorrow. It has been a fabulous trip, I can’t believe the animals and interesting behavior we’ve seen.

Great guides really made the trip. Sitting around “bush tv” aka a bonfire each night shooting the shit with guides, other travelers was so fun.

Highlights: hyenas and vultures ripping apart a fresh kill-nasty business but we couldn’t stop watching. A new born baby giraffe still wobbly on his feet. Lions laying in the road so close we could hear them purr! Elephants walking by our vehicle, stopping to inspect us, giving us the eye.

What I won’t miss? 5am wake ups so you’re out by dawn, animals most active in the cool morning. The :censored: paperwork involved each time we went to a new country. All of Africa LOVES paperwork, it employs more folks. Why have one sheet when 5 will do, each asking for the same info and when you hand it in they don’t even look at it. 7 Covid tests (the stick up the nose kind) in 25 days. Iffy internet usually when we needed it the most for downloading results and QR code’s made for too much stress.

But I loved each and every day, it was always different. If you ever want to go to Africa PM me. We had a great travel agent who arranged exactly what we wanted.

Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

I remember the immigration process for both Ethiopia and Kenya being incredibly inefficient and somewhat expensive especially since you have to pay the immigration fee with their currencies. Safaris are so incredibly cool as is Africa in general. Lovely people everywhere you go and curious where you are from. Glad you enjoyed it. We witnessed a lion family politely eating a kill which involved them going one at a time to eat by themselves...very disciplined hierarchy of who eats first, second… etc. Sounds very different than the hyena family.

I’m cutting back at work from a 1.0 to a .8 with the potential of 1.0 hrs, so I can be more hands on and help with the kids. It started this week and I was able to get our oldest off the bus all week. I’m off today and I was able to put her on the bus this morning. She may be non verbal but her smile and laugh will melt your heart getting her on and off the bus!!!

Days like today when crypto is rocketing upwards. I don't have a life changing amount of money invested in crypto, but a decent enough amount to get excited about. It's a pretty fun rollercoaster to follow!

Crypto is basically a ponzi scheme. The people in early made lots of money. They had people talking it up. They made most of the money. Eventually, it will tank because there is nothing behind it other than hope. That is not an investment strategy.

And it's not insured, and very open to hacks.

Calling it a ponzi scheme is ridiculous IMO. Are there ponzi schemes WITHIN crypto? Yes. There are pump and dump schemes that are designed to screw people over so a few people can laugh their way to the bank. But to say "crypto is basically a ponzi scheme" is kind of akin to saying "sales/marketing is basically a ponzi scheme" because pyramid schemes exist.

I'd also dispute the "very open to hacks" claim.

Is it a risky investment, and could it all go to zero? Yeah. That's why I don't have a life changing amount of money invested in it. But are there also some very legitimate crypto projects that have a real chance to break into the mainstream of daily life? Absolutely.

So for now, I'm investing my rainy day fund money, and enjoying the ride :)

It is very open to hacks, and the lack of insurance is troubling. If FDIC (or similar) gets behind it, that may change my view. It's just too risky and volatile.

Rube, one of the single biggest things that gives crypto a chance to succeed is because it fundamentally can't really be hacked. It's decentralized. There's not one centralized "system" to hack into.

Can people "hack" individual users' accounts by cracking their passwords and stealing all their money? Yes. And if that happens, you're right, it's not FDIC insured, so you're bleeped. That's why you better be damn sure you have a secure password + 2 factor authentication.

So instead of the concern that it can be "hacked", the concern should be that if you don't secure your account properly, and someone gets into it, you very likely will be out everything.

Just saying.

The first couple look like exchanges being hacked, which happens. And that's the situation I described, where if you don't have your account secured properly, you could get screwed over.

The last one is interesting, the 51% attack, but here's an interesting passage from the article:

"For popular blockchains, attempting this sort of heist is likely to be extremely expensive. According to the website Crypto51, renting enough mining power to attack Bitcoin would currently cost more than $260,000 per hour. But it gets much cheaper quickly as you move down the list of the more than 1,500 cryptocurrencies out there"

So it costs more than a quarter million dollars an hour to successfully attack bitcoin. Say there's a hacker group with millions of dollars lying around and they're able to steal a bunch of bitcoin. What will happen once news of that gets out? Everyone will sell their BTC, and the price plummets. So all that BTC they just stole will rapidly become less and less valuable.

So, they'd have to front potentially millions of dollars, knowing that as soon as they get their hands on these assets, they will almost certainly plummet in value. Doesn't seem like a very smart business decision.

Or have "alleged" front money. They get someone to front them (happens all the time in scams). Things of that nature. It's rather common in pre-paid phone cards. This is just a different venue.

A lot of people. Invest some money to make more? This is why scams work. Yes, you can make some money in digi-coin, I personally think it is too high-risk. Too many opportunities, too much volatility to even think about it.

Playing golf with your significant other at Mississippi National. What a great day!! We did 36 both courses. Such a fun albeit quirky Highlands 18. That 17th hole featuring the 150 ft drop is just bizarre but gorgeous.

The hotel my friends and I stayed at (the Moxy, by US Bank Stadium) had free table-shuffleboard, free bubble hockey, and free foosball. That's a win.

I like to get out on Sundays and ride my bike around the area, with the goal going down a new road, neighborhood, trail etc. Today’s weather was just perfect! Not too hot or cold, only a light breeze, just a beautiful sunny day! I stayed out almost two hours and saw lots of new scenery.

I went during the Vikes game so it was probably extra quiet which is fine by me!

I could use another month of weather like this, it was absolutely gorgeous here in MN.

I could use another month of weather like this, it was absolutely gorgeous here in MN.

DEFINITELY great weather. Hot enough during the day, and nice and crisp at night.

When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

Making one last payment for my vehicle, about 1.5 years ahead of schedule. She's all mine now!

There is nothing better than dropping a big monthly payment (student loans, car loans, mortgage, and the biggest of all….daycare).

My payments were not bad at all, to be honest. Loan scheduled to be paid off Feb 2023 officially, and I was on pace to pay it off by about Aug 2022. I had called today to check the balance left, and said screw it, I'll just pay the rest off now. :D

About 2 more years and we will be done with daycare…just in time to be only a few years from college.

We still have out mortgage but we have about 9 years left. It’s nice to see that balance finally starting to go down by a meaningful amount every month

Making memories with my 3 kids. Making up for lost time and not so fun memories in their past.

Keep your stick on the ice...
