I actually would like to tackle that challenge. I likened it to Jacob's Ladder at RenFest (although I never succeeded, it was a fun challenge).

Very much enjoying the trip home so far. I've seen family, had quality one-on-one time with the boy in advance of my leaving, just hung out with friends tonight at Maynard's. But man oh man the inflation! Shock

Started a side gig at a local liquor store. Guy walked in ready to buy Johnny Walker Black, but was open to try something new. I pointed out a decent one at the same price point (within $2-3). He asked me what I would like for that sort of taste, I mentioned Balvenie 12Y0, but also explained it's a decent jump in price (about $20-25). He stressed quality.

I then went into the beginner's lesson of scotch, and he ended up buying the Balvenie.

Manager (who had NOT been privy to the conversation) saw his purchase as he was checking out, and commended him on his choice. Customer pointed me out, and said, "Well, he said it was his go-to [editor's note: it is, for scotch], so I guess I'm making a good choice."

*fistpump* (only my second day on the job)

I am heavy on the learning curve, given that it's been many years since I worked retail. Baby steps, baby steps. Upselling without bullsh*tting the customer. ;)

One example of learning: I am told to try and learn one style of wine each day I work. Holy crap, I knew I knew nothing, but I know less than that (and I realize it).

My wife is gone this week for work at a conference in Boston. It's her first flight since 2019. Her last text to me this morning as she boarded her plane, "Hopefully this isn't a 5 year flight lol. Wait for me".

For those who don't know...this is reference to the tv series Manifest.

She is giving me more credit than deserved, I don't think I would have the mental capacity to enter the dating scene again. It's likely my wife would walk back in our house and think it was this morning. :D

The above was amazing. FTR, and it never made the Simpsons, but "Anya Backyabich" was always a fave of mine.

JFC, when Phil McKracken is the first name, anyone should have known.

I like Wayne Kerr and Eileen Dover though.

For those of you who end up on HWY 23 near Jasper, this is a pretty neat thing to see.

I suspect they knew they were being had but needed to read through the list due to parliamentary or legal reasons since the names were on the agenda.

Either way it was brilliant!

That’s a good one! When I was a kid we only had Mike Hunt and Phil McKracken. The rest of these are game changers!

My oldest daughter is special needs (Down syndrome) and non verbal. We took her to her reading assessment tonight for the 5th grade. She excels at reading and spelling for the 5th grade level. She’s excited for her new school, teachers and making new friends. And seeing her smile is worth it all!!!

Keep your stick on the ice...

We had a green text Commodore Pet with built in cassette drive to load up Oregon Trail from. Never seen it through a printer that way, though.

Yep. Had to dial into the main frame at Mankato State to play. "Saving" your game meant tearing off the paper scroll from the teletype machine to take with you.

Funny story - when I was in college (this would have been 1996 or 1997) I had a help desk call from a guy. I looked up his equipment and discovered he had a black and white monitor.

I told him we have a ton of color monitors we could give him to help with his work. His response was “why would I need that if I don’t have a printer that can print in color?”

It took a ton of effort not to laugh out loud at the guy before I hung up the phone

I today is my first day back to work since school started and the house (my workplace) is gloriously quiet. The last 18 months has been tough with having kids at home so much. I love them but I don’t miss feeling that I have to parent during the day while also focusing on work. Stress level is much improved.

Last Thursday was the first day since March 2020 that I HAD to go home for lunch to check on my dog and let her out. Everyday since March 2020 either my wife was working from home(she went back to the office in May), or my daughter would come home for lunch from work(she is back in Winona for her senior year of college), or my son has been home(summer is over and he is in school five days a week).

My dog Layla, check the picture to the left to see her, is an Aussie mix with bunches of anxiety. We were really concerned when each of them weren't going to be around during the day. It's being a gradual transition and Layla made it through last Thursday and Friday very well. The humans have made it through their transitions fairly well also.

Layla did get some good treats this weekend from the grill, we spoiled her with a few scraps...probably not good for her but she deserved a treat.

Took my 4 year old daughter to Valleyfair Sunday afternoon, pretty much against my wife's wishes, oh well, and she had an absolute blast!! Even wanted to go on Wild Thing even though she is too short - "Look how fast that one is Daddy, lets go on that!" She is going to share her Dad's need for speed!!

We had one minor moment, we waited for Wild Mouse and she kept telling me how excited she was to "Ride a real roller coaster." But the guy said she was too short when we got up there. She was right at the mark for it, and he said she had big shoes on so she was too short. Walking away she just started bawling and said that's not fair, I waited for my turn daddy. So I went a bought her a largest Ice cream dish I could find. Its my fault, we measured at home and I told her she was tall enough and got her excited for it. I guess that made up for it because I got a "Daddy you're the best" and a big hug from a happy kid as we left. Which was WAY better than watching the Vikings game.

We've been holding off planning things and doing much of anything given the current situation. But it helped me realize she is only going to be this age for a short period of time, and soon she won't "believe" anymore. So today I am booking a trip to Walt Disney World for next Spring, I need to take her while she still thinks it is actually Rapunzel waving at her. Reading the posts above me also reinforces how quickly that time will come.

Time to go max out a credit card or two.

I think a big bowl of ice cream takes care of a lot of bad things. Never underestimate the power of ice cream :dup:

My friend lives in CA and is a regular Disney guest. I know you are thinking FL, but if you want some kid tips PM me. She’s the pro for anything Disney.

Note: Due to inflation dirty deeds will no longer be done dirt cheap.

Sounds like I may as well shred my Dad of the weekend award submission :)

WDW is lot more fun when you can avoid Spring Break because even a few weeks earlier or later means fewer crowds. I’d highly recommend buying a subscription to TouringPlans to help plan your trip. Feel free to PM if you want any tips…we took my daughter at 5 years old During SpringBreak and it was chaos but still lots of fun. I think we are going next August just before school starts…and yes I’m kw how hot it will be

NorthStar vs Islanders on NHL network right now.

Crazy how the game has changed. There are bantams today with better technical skills than some of these old time NHL players.

It's the little and simple things I find as a simple pleasure of being a new dad of 3 kids in the last nearly 5 months...

- Taking one with me to Home Depot or Cub for a quick errand.

- The youngest one calling for me after we put the kids to bed and wanting me to tell her a story (a random story that I just make up and I couldn't repeat if I tried... lol!!!).

- The random hugs and kisses and "I love you Jeremy" from all 3 three.

Makes this whole new life for me A LOT more appreciated!!!

Keep your stick on the ice...
