Sara's Tipsy Pies at the State Fair (Food Building), Cub and her store in Stillwater as well. Both my wife and I think the Boozy Blueberry-Lemon pie is the best, but the Irish Whisky Pecan pie is a close second. She has several other pies and tarts. I don't know her personally, though we have a mutual friend, so I'll stop by her booth at the Fair and chat. Plus, a percentage of her pie sales will benefit children with special needs via the Down Syndrome Association of Mn, Jack's Basket and The Valley Friendship Club.
Noted. I love my deep fried apple pie, but this sounds like it needs some consideration.

Just back from hitting up DelSur Empanadas in Glen Lake followed by getting a few pops from Unmapped Brewing next door.
DelSur is very simply but I tried a bite of several different types (one with chorizo as the main ingredient, another with tomato, spinach and BBQ chicken and each one was very good, and their chimichurri sauce was very good.
Unmapped is pretty typical setup wise but I thought their variety was pretty strong. I also had a Lupulin Hazy IPA which might have been my favorite of the night.
Was at Back Channel today, and Localz Cafe food truck was there in the morning w/breakfast burritos (Bags Tourney going on). DELICIOUS. Good-sized burrito, with a LOT of flavor. Highly recommend.

Did anyone else see the news this morning about the rat inside of Stella’s Fish?!?!?!
Keep your stick on the ice...
I did, but it's in Uptown, so I have no worries about ever going there (I have checked it out, many years ago).

Oh, not a restaurant, but related to the demise of a restaurant: Champp's Ridgedale is now a Top Ten Liquor, wine bar, and "grocery spot." Sounds like a similar thing to France 44? I'll have to check it out.

No, no it wasn't. Particularly that one. Never even had an average experience there.

Before It was bought and turned into a franchise it was a fantastic spot. Service and food were incredible but it did eventually become just another TGIF or Old Chicago.

Correct.

Correct. Champps actually had very good food back in the day. And they were early on the hundred TV's thing which I enjoyed very much. When I started my job in Brooklyn Park right after college ('97) Champps and J Cousineau's were the only two bars/restaurants in the Maple Grove area. My how things have changed!
When campus Pizza closed we were at a loss for a place to eat before the game. Sally's & Stub & Herbs I got sick of. Any other close by places that may have opened recently that are decent? We have been going to MyBurger shortly after Campus Pizza closed and it is ok at best. Thanks. Go Gophers!

It is a bit of a walk, but the Blue Door Pub on Como is good.

One of the kids is part of the Gopher Motor Sports club. This is them prepping for the parade.

It's a bit of a hike (or a few minutes drive) but Mannings over on Como is good
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
I was given a $20 gift card to Crisp & Green. It’s basically Chipotle but with salads.
I bought two salads. They were good but had to pay an additional $12 above the $20 gift card for a total of $32. They were not worth $16 each.
In addition to your comparison to chipotle I have heard crisp and green also shares chipotle's propensity for being a source of food poisoning

I always get the onion rings there. I don’t know they’re fantastic or it is nostalgia. Went there a lot with my parents back in the day. Woog and Lucia teams used to convene there after some games.

Haven't gone there pre-game very much. But there's a group of us that head there post-game semi-regularly.

Manning’s is decent for greasy breakfast food and big beers.
Thanks for the recommendations for places to eat. Can’t wait for puck drop tonight!
The empanadas at SA, Super America, Speedway are great. A little heat, but nothing to scare you away with. It’s amazing what you can find at a gas station.

They don't give their animals drugs. I risk violating some standards of the board here, so that is all I will say. I will not eat at Chipotle anymore. Just sayin'.

Lone Spur in Minnetonka will be a Racks Sports Bar, all licenses are currently pending. Apparently they call their waitresses Racks Girls...
Looking at the website, it's not as blatant as Hooters, but similar attitude...

Lots of memories of that place in the late 90s early 2000s.

There’s one in Burnsville. Judging by the clientele I’ve seen and activities during the pandemic I don’t think it’s a place I’d go, for several reasons.
That's the website I checked out. I will prob check it out, out of curiosity once, it's literally 2-3 blocks from my place, but I have very low expectations.

Nothing terribly far for me either obviously, probably check it out for a beer or two on one of my trips to Strong.

The owner of Strong? Hoo boy he gets lit while working, lol. As far as Lone Spur, it is a townie place, nothing special there. Not even townie talk, unless you are "one of them." They don't like the non-regulars.

I assume the owner is the older guy. He looked like he got his ass beat today. Black, swollen eyes. Like he got a healthy punch or two right in the nose. (He very well may have just fallen on his face)

Bald guy, very talkative, cuts you off at times if he's had a few. Def a Type A personality.

He’s usually wearing a hat when I’m there so I don’t know if he was bald. Whomever it was today with the beat up face didn’t seem drunk today. They’re always great to my little kiddo in there too, chatting him up and giving him a lollipop.
Good staff, def an indie store, they don't give a sh*. There's the bald guy (owner), wheelchair guy, kind of decrepit super nice guy (doesn't wear a hat, though), tattooed tough guy dude. Those are the ones I recognize. They do have some new blood in there, that I don't know.

We used to hit up Lone Spur after softball if we played at (Willow?) or whatever it's called. I never took it as a townie place at all, but it's been 20 years so I guess that could have changed.

Tried it out a couple times over the years I lived at my current place (16 years). It's townie. Not saying that is an insult or anything, it's just the crowd there. I don't think it draws new customers anymore, just the locals who know the place exists.

My wife and I went to Owamni last night after she was able to make a reservation for it a couple months ago. It was worth the wait from my perspective...we had 4 different dishes between us and they were all delicious for different reasons. My favorite was probably the mushroom taco but I really enjoyed the sweet potato dish too even though I've found very few sweet potato dishes of any kind I've ever liked.
If you get a chance to go I'd highly recommend it. The flavor profiles aren't what you'll get at many restaurants around town and they do a great job. The cost was also very reasonable given all the hype and publicity they've gotten nationally.
Red Stag Supper Club closing at year’s end. ?

Probably old news and GPL was done when announced… but William’s Peanut Bar closed and Stella’s Fish is closing. Lots of fun nights at William’s. Would go to OC Uptown for early happy hour, then William’s and back to OC. All the good Uptown places are gone… Smiling Moose, OC, William’s, Rudolph’s BBQ…
Keep your stick on the ice...
I remember being at Red Stag quite awhile ago hearing a voice that sounded like Mike Tice and making a joke about getting Super Bowl tickets a little too loudly… and then seeing it was actually Mike Tice sitting near me.
Same night saw Garrison Keillor waiting to get his car at the same time as myself.

My buddy who lives on Lake Minnetonka loved that place. It’s been years since I’ve been there, but that had these wings called Mopa (s/p?) wings that were very good.

My only claim to fame at a restaurant was at Redstone in Tonka. I was with my buddy who lived on the lake. Garnett had part ownership and he came in sat in the booth next to. We were back to back inches apart and he told the waiter he wanted chicken wings. The waiter said we don’t have chicken wings on the menu. He then replied just tell the cook to make me wings. About 10 minutes later a plate of wings came out.

Ran into Frank and Doug a couple times at Reid's, and crossed paths with Joe Nathan at Toby Keith's once. That's about it for me.

I used to have Stephanie Power's personal phone number - not her assistant's.
Granted I was a low on the pole schlep in customer service with Carlson Marketing Group at the time, but still!!
My buddy's restaurant gets Paul Molitor and Dan Gladden a lot amongst other athletes.
I served Jack Morris which was awesome!
Saw Randy Shaver at the Bonanza in Brainerd. Bumped into Peter Gabriel a few times at the old Vescio’s in Dinkytown.
We sat in a booth kitty corner from Torii Hunter and Kevin Garnett at Capital Grille.
When the Super Bowl was in town, we went to Manny’s and I high-fived Drew Brees when he walked in. Jim Kelly and his wife were at the table behind us with ESPN people, Steve Levy and Chris Berman were a couple of them iirc.
I saw Jup at the Buffalo Wild Wings near Mariucci once.

I have an authentic Gopher Hockey jersey given to me by someone with a connection to the program. It was one of the jerseys they would use when hosting recruits and putting their name on it. Anyway, it just so happened to be Jake Fleming's number 29, but without any name
I was at the Buffalo Wild Wings next to Mariucci once and sure enough Jake Fleming was there. He had a huge smile on his face when he saw the jersey. I gave him a nod and smile. He's probably thinking I'm a superfan of his.
My regret to this day is not getting a picture of him with me with the jersey on.
