There is actually one FULL service gas station in Mankato yet, Hank's on North Riverfront. He stays pretty busy actually.
I think full service is required in OR and NJ. It's a weird feeling to just sit there as they pump gas for you.
It was also required in Northern Ireland, at least at the one station I stopped in near Derry. They speak "English" in that part of Northern Ireland in name only. It's so bad even Scottish people have no idea what the hell they are saying. So I get out to pump some gas and this guy comes running up yelling at me and until he took the gas hose away from I had no idea WTF he was talking about.
Oregon got rid of it...though it is still encouraged.
And Composer...saving 7 cents on a gallon is not worth going inside for. Even if you have a 20 gallon tank that is barely noticeable.

IMO In-N-Out is one of the most overrated restaurants there is. Just OK burgers and the fries taste weird/have a weird texture. Just had it last month again in LA and confirmed my last experience I had in AZ. I'd honestly put it near the bottom of all the burger fast food places.
Krispy Kremes are good (although I wouldn't wait in line for it). I was surprised how quickly they left the Twin Cities.
Krispy Kreme’s are not that good especially when compared to real donut shops. They are too soft, gooey, and don't have any flavor IMHO.
I like In-N-Out but there is no way I'd wait in a line that insane for one but will grab one if/when I'm in SoCal.

Being able to turn a donut into a thin sheet of paper easily, does not make a good soft donut. A good local donut shop is hard to beat. Bavarian Cream is my Kryptonite at those places.

When my kids were little and the Krispy Kremes were still around they would have fun watching the donuts on the "assembly line". And a hot, fresh Krispy Kreme is definitely bettter than a cold one. Otherwise, I agree, I'd rather just have a donut from most bakeries.

Same!!
At the Frozen Four in Boston Kelly Red suggested a bakery in the North End and it may have been the best creme donut I've ever had. As we were perusing the choices my wife asked if I wanted to split one. "Split one??!!? I'm trying to decide if I should get one or two." ?

A warmed KK with a dollup of vanilla ice cream is a good combo. Yes a real bakery donut is better, but sometimes it's ok to not overthink it. You're comparing Outback to Manny's - it's a freaking donut. ?
So in recent memory is Krispy Kreme the biggest "waiting in line" opener in the Twin Cities? I had moved out when Chick-fil-A opened, was that big? Was there another huge one?
I was recently informed by a GPLer that I'm related to Airey
@handyman Yes, I had figured that out and was planning to stop using it. Also, I don’t like that station near my home, anyway. My wife does the Cub gas thing and typically gets 30 cents or more per gallon off. And that doesn’t require going into the store.
First time I tried Krispy Kremes was in Pensacola, Fl. in '97 during Fall Break. When the one opened in Maple Grove, people had to much time on their hands to sit outside to be one of the first ones inside. Same with Chick-fil-A, In-N-Out Burger and so on. Nothing is worth standing in line for days to be the first. It's the same thing if you are the first in line or wait a couple days.
Think of the look on those people's faces when they finally got their donut and realized it tastes just like a donut. I worked about 2 miles from that Maple Grove Krispy Kreme and would drive by laughing at those ridiculous lines.....and the police they had to pay to manage the traffic.
I cannot fathom intentionally waiting in a line for more than 30 minutes for any piece of food. (Excluding if I was literally starving in a financial or apocalyptic situation where it was necessary ?).

Sonic opened up on 94 and White Bear in St Paul. That line was a few blocks long for weeks. That died quickly as everyone realized their food sucks.
Better than the monstrosity we have now, and really pretty good as flags go.
If a 2nd grader can't draw a recognizable version of your flag, you've done it wrong.
don’t get me wrong, our current one is not appropriate at all, or pleasing to the eye. I guess I’m in the camp that there could have been a bit more creativity than this for its replacement. I won’t lose any sleep over it though. ?
It has a little bit too much of a yacht club feel for me but I won’t be losing any sleep, either.

As for the flag the new one looks like something from a b-movie for a fake country in the Middle East.
I'm sorry but anyone that thinks the new one does a better job of representation is out of their mind. While the old one was not great, at least when you looked at it you knew what state it represented because it literally said "Minnesota" on it.
How does the new one really represent the state - because there's a star? Because there's some blue in it so hey, "water!"? It's awful.

What exactly did being one of many “field of blue with an ugly state seal on it” represent?
Again I don’t think we got fantastic choices, but this argument is weird to me. Most flags you have no idea what it represents without doing research to figure it out. How many people know the meaning of Maryland’s flag when they first see it? How many even know it is Maryland’s flag? Same for New Mexico, South Carolina, Alaska? (All great flags, in my opinion)
Karl you say discussing what it represents is a weird argument, but I would be willing to bet every state flag has a story behind ii. Of those you mentioned let's look at NM:
The official flag of New Mexico consists of a red sun symbol of the Zia people on a field of gold (yellow). It was officially adopted in 1925 to highlight the state's Native American and Hispano heritage: It combines a symbol of the Puebloan people, who have ancient roots in the state, with the colors of the flag of Spain, which established and ruled Nuevo Méxicofor over two and a half centuries.
Whether or not someone driving by one knows that story or not isn't important. There's still a story there.
The story of the new Minnesota flag is....pretty colors and the North Star? Regardless imho this isn't an upgrade which is saying a lot since the original wasn't good. ?

Is the navy blue section supposed to approximate the shape of the state?
Yes
And then add blue for the lakes, green for the land, white for the snow. Plus the North Star that is in a decent position whether it's hung horizontally or vertically.
For anyone that doesn't know Bentleyville. Camera should be here until the lights turn off, then will be back tomorrow night around sundown (unless it's moved to cover a ship passing):
EDIT: This next cam is mostly fixed (it's a better view than the thumbnail). It can move, but we leave it in place except in very unusual circumstances.
