I would imagine TNT will ask Anson to apologize for his comments next time he's on air (at least I hope they do). But I'm glad they worked it out. I have mostly enjoyed the TNT coverage and like Anson Carter on TV but this was an extraordinarily bad look for him and the network.

I wonder if he means that Russo basically gave Carter an out by those 3 tweets. A lot lesser people would have savaged Carter but Russo rose above and has likely calmed things down.

I sensed some snark in the comment, so that’s why I was asking for clarification. I could be very wrong. It’s happened once or twice before. ;)

Carter was wrong here, he should’ve dropped it when Gretzky was trying to change the subject. And kudos to Russo for the way he handled himself. Too many of these talking heads on tv and radio think they are some kind of Nostradamus in their field. They think they can run their mouths with no consequences.

Keep your stick on the ice...

Here is Anson's tweet. I still don't see an apology in it from him.

Russo didn't apologize publicly, he just said that he and Carter apologized to each other, so I don't anticipate an apology on TNT from Carter. Russo literally had nothing to apologize for, but good for him for taking the high road here. Sometimes you just admit you're wrong even when you're not, so everyone can just move on. Everyone saw what happened, and it was nice to see the outpouring of support publicly on Twitter. I'm confident the support he received from those "in the game" wasn't all from white people. Russo's a great dude who puts up with a lot of s*** because of his job and following; I'm always baffled by folks who say they don't like him, and can only assume they've never met him in person.

I have a very good friend who is in business with his son & son Bill is a buddy with Russo. I have joined the 2 of them at Hells Kitchen when Russo & Souhan did their podcast or something from there. Russo would come over and chat at intervals. Seemed like a authentic decent human being.

Are we to read into the capitalized words that “TOGETHER”means Russo has some blame to take and “AND” means part of Anson’s issue with Russo comes from statements/actions behinds the scenes?

I still don’t like how Anson insinuates Russo is racist in such a public way without giving any context or background. That’s quite the bomb to drop on someone’s career/reputation based on the evidence provided.

When Russo was on with Barrerio the other day he implied that Anson took offense to what he wrote because it made him sound lazy and that may have been improperly construed as having a racist tone. Russo could have done a better job calling him out without any of that potential undercurrent. But, I still think he had nothing to apologize for and Carter did.

Edit-- Scooby beat me to it.

The only other time I have heard Russo talk about this besides PA the day after, was on Bumper to Bumper. Russo said that Carter took his comment that he doesn't watch very many Wild games as meaning he was lazy and racist. Then the Wild fans piled on and Russo thinks that is what also put this over the top. Russo said he heard from some of the guys on the panel that night as well. But, he hopes TNT will make him apologize on air the next time he is on.

It is from the February 11th Bumper to Bumper show, hour 2. It starts to talk about around the 17:30 mark. It is worth a listen.

Thank you. I’ll listen. I wouldn’t expect Anson to be type of guy that would make that accusation without something behind it and when it comes to race discussions there is usually an aspect that is obvious to POC that most of us miss.

I wouldn’t think twice to point out to my kid that he is being lazy but I can see how Anson may take that same comment from someone like me and think that it is racist.

That said I would look at Russo’s comment as “I see more Wild games because I cover this team whereas you don’t because you cover all of the NHL.” But obviously it felt like a lazy call out to Anson. Interesting. Something to learn on both sides. Too bad it blew up publicly.

Pretty much spot on. It's the whole impact v intent issue. The impact of the message hits different for a POC, especially one that has dealt with some truly vile stuff in their career. My initial reaction was that it was completely ludicrous, but when I noticed quite a few POC understanding where Anson was coming from I slowed my role and listened.

I still don't agree with going in on it on live tv, but if they've had a chat and Russo is moving on so am I.

Long discussion here on the situation -- interesting to learn that TNT hasn't exactly been concerned with Russo's side of it.

Starts around 35 min.

From what got from the podcast, Russo emailed TNT about this issue and asked for a public apology and asked why it hasn't happened yet. What he got back was a corporate "cut and paste" response. He was not happy about their response, called it shameful and has lost all respect for the way the network has handled it. He said that after being called a racist on national tv, he deserves an apology and is worried that if it was someone who didn't have the track record and respect he has, it could have been career ending. He said he and Carter are good and would love to sit down in person with him for a beer to continue to talk about it. It was a good discussion among all the people on the podcast. Said Dumba went out of his way to talk to him and that really made him feel better.

It does put them in a sticky situation to ask Anson to apologize on air. I would guess it opens them up to a whole bunch of lawsuits from current and former minority employees if any of them have felt unsupported in similar situations.

Anyone with a lawyer would do the same. Leave Russo to deal with it.

Dave Schwartz leaving Kare 11 to go work for the Wild.

Guess getting passed over for the Sports director job was enough to get him to look at moving on.

The rules are pretty simple here and Jup and the mods give us a lot of leeway, until you shoot yourself in the foot. IMO most, if not all, people I've seen get banned here walk straight over the line by themselves with no help. The number of times I've deleted a post before I've clicked on submit numbers in the thousands probably. There is no need to escalate any negative situation here for any reason.

My 2 cents...

Given PA's propensity for ignoring real time updates I could see him doing the Wild going something like this:

Quote:
“Foligno carries the puck into the zone, drops a pass for Parise easy skeezy, who hits Kaprizov buzzing down the right side, shot scoredowwwwn!! That’s the Wild’s first goal of the game and Minnesota now leads 2 nothing. That makes Minnesota 1 for 3 on the power play as they continue to dominate the NBA 5 on 5. Puck will drop with 7 minutes left in the 1st period. Coming up next in the 2nd intermission we’ve got Lou Nanne on the vox so don’t miss out hearing from the godfather of Minnesota hockey”

I agree with you 99% of the time, it’s like people think having very high expectations and being disappointed when they aren’t met means we suck as fans and human beings, it’s tough not be negative about any MN sports but at least gopher hockey is the one program/team that deserves and has earned those insanely high expectations. Being negative about gopher hockey makes people think your entire life is like that.

Given PA's propensity for ignoring real time updates I could see him doing the Wild going something like this:

I read that whole paragraph hearing PA in my head... lol!!!

Keep your stick on the ice...

The rules are pretty simple here and Jup and the mods give us a lot of leeway, until you shoot yourself in the foot. My 2 cents...

Given you're an :censored: iowa fan you started with two strikes. LoL ;)

I figured as much... :D

As far as Dave Schwartz goes, I’m not totally convinced he made the move because he didn’t get the sports director job. This Wild gig may have been brewing for a while. Also, he may have liked working weekends as his wife is a news director during the week. I’m going to bet the Wild job has a pretty flexible schedule, especially during the off season
