Having three Eastern teams host regionals is crappy in a year most tourney teams are from the West.
If only arenas from the west wanted to do so... other than Fargo.
Might be time to relax the requirements. IIRC finding an arena to host a regional is a little like Goldilocks. Not too big, not too small, not on campus, but close enough to maximize attendance.Having three Eastern teams host regionals is crappy in a year most tourney teams are from the West.

Not allowing a team to host in their home rink seems to have caused a switch to more eastern regionals which will continue to be the case the next few years.
Eastern regionals are often in American hockey/minor league hockey team rinks which makes sense since pro rinks are too big for regionals and college D1 rinks aren't allow anymore.
So where are the western minor league hockey rinks especially those closer to D1 teams? The western team being more spread out makes it more challenging/less appealing to host.
Ding, Ding, Ding. Winner! We likely have more hockey arenas than any other state, yet hardly any qualify to host a regional.
Aldrich might qualify, but it is an absolute crap hole and you'd better like garbage hot dogs, small bags of Doritos, and fountain Pepsi.
Closest mid size robot to MSP are Fargo and Des Moines. Neither makes sense for Minnesota to use as a host.
They wouldn't host in DesMoines because nobody would buy tickets. If the Gophers made the tourney you might get 1000 fans willing to drive 4.5 hours. There are probably some USHL arenas in Iowa that might qualify, but the same argument holds.Closest mid size robot to MSP are Fargo and Des Moines. Neither makes sense for Minnesota to use as a host.
Who played Penn State last weekend? They sure got the Nittany Lions fired up to crush the BADgers. It's 6-0 after two periods.
Northeastern loses to U Mass and is now currently 20th in Pairwise.
Current Pairwise
Cornell 12
Notre Dame 13
Alaska 15
Merrimack 16
Omaha 18
Northeastern 20
The first four moved up important spots and the last two moved down a lot.

FWIW they have reduced the guarantee down a bit:
The financial guarantee is now only $100k and the split after expenses are met go 75% NCAA, 25% host. They at least were $150k and split 80/20 for 2017-22.
ALASKA UP TO 12 IN THE PAIRWISE. NANOOK NATION!???
12-15 are really close right now the bubble is getting interesting.
ALASKA UP TO 12 IN THE PAIRWISE. NANOOK NATION!???
I don't like their chances to get an auto bid (for some reason I can't find when their conference tournament is being playing ? ) but I am rooting for them to finish high enough to be an at large team. Being an independent sucks but nobody wants the Alaska teams in their conference. Can 4 teams from Siberia join D1 and have a 6 team Arctic conference auto bid? ?
I am rooting for them also. Pretty cool story. And I’d love to play them selfishly lol (I think the Gophers would destroy them)
That's where Sorenson ended up isn't it? I hope they make it.

Yes it is. He has played every game and is second on the team in points with 24 (9 goals/15 assists).

If Alaska makes the NCAA tournament they will almost certainly finish ahead of Atlantic Hockey auto bid winner meaning they will not be the 16th seed.
The Gophers are very close to clinching the #1 overall in which case they will likely be in a regional with the 16th seed and some combination of 7/8 and 9/10.
If the Gopher were to play Alaska in the NCAA tournament it would almost certainly be in the Frozen Four. I am all for a Gopher vs. Nanook National Championship game.
I liked that the Gopher played New Hampshire in the 03 championship game. I've always rooted for New Hampshire when their in the tournament. My thinking leading up to the game was yes I want the Gophers to win but if they happen to lose at least I like New Hampshire. The same would be true with Alaska.

I know, but there is still a chance Quinnipiac can jump us. And I’d love that 2 versus 15 matchup if it were to happen.
Jackson Blake scored an OT winner for the whioux tonight and he did the thing Pitlick did against them and launched his stick into the crowd

This was at CC so he could have hit an opponent fan.
Lets see it must have been an important win.
The two points keep them in 6th place in conference and 21st in Pairwise.
Must have been over a top rank team *check notes* CC is ranked #38.
Yep sure sounds like a big win to me. ? My how the mighty Sue have fallen.
Players need to stop throwing their sticks in the crowd it's only a matter of time before a fan gets hurt.
After a fun little Google map search here are some stats. Time to drive from Minneapolis to:
- Fargo - 3 hours and 31 minutes
- Sioux Falls - 3 hours and 48 minutes
- Des Moines - 3 hours and 36 minutes
- Coralville - 4 hours and 33 minutes
These are all the cities where regionals have happened recently or have been talked about. To rule out Des Moines is really kind of silly if you believe Fargo or Sioux Falls is a good place for Minnesota to host a regional. The biggest rub for Wells Fargo Arena would be that it is too big for a regional since it's capacity for hockey is 15,000. Xtream Arena in Coralville falls in line with Fargo since its capacity is 5,100, but it is in the middle of nowhere. Though it is an easy drive on the Avenue of the Saints and Cedar Rapids has an airport for those teams coming from far away.
I would really like to see one of those Iowa arenas become a part of a rotation of the West Regional or become a Midwest Regional site to get it the hell out of Allentown. In the end it always comes down to money and who is willing to put it up to host.
I am the official Iowa Hawkeye football fan of GPL!
Fargo is sandwiched between fHawk fans and Gopher fans, even if it isn’t close to Minneapolis. DesMoines is hours away from college hockey fans.
Huge game today for Notre Dame. Win and they should get home ice for the first round, a Pairwise boost, and stay above .500 (Currently 14-14-5)
I don't think there ever has been a team to get eliminated from the NCAAs due to the .500 or better rule, Notre Dame at risk of being the first if they lose today.
Badgers win at Penn State. I think that might cost Penn State home ice in the Big Ten playoffs next weekend.
Depending on what Notre Dame does tonight there could be a two or three way tie with Michigan State and Penn State for 4th place.

You are correct. Cappy & Pizzo were just saying on the recap/preview that PSU won’t have home ice while they showed the highlights.
On the preview to Michigan- Notre Dame game they just mentioned Notre Dame having a 26 year old on the team. Jeez I thought Union was bad...
He would be a freshmen at Mankato.
Fantilli got a 5 minute major for contact to the head and was kicked out of the game. It's scoreless after one. Notre Dame will have 4 and half minutes of power play to start the 2nd period.
Alaska playing (most likely) for their season against Arizona State. Tied 2-2 in the third. They can’t afford another loss.
Alaska was down 2-0 but just took a 3-2 lead.
Color me shocked Fantilli took a 5 and a game in the 1st period?
Notre Dame beats Michigan in OT and gets home ice for the Big Ten playoffs next weekend.
Penn State is #8 in Pairwise and the 6th seed in the Big Ten tournament.
The match ups next weekend
#7 Wisconsin at #2 Michigan
#6 Penn State at #3 Ohio State
#5 Michigan State at #4 Notre Dame
Who ever loses between Penn State and Ohio State will have back to back bye weeks before playing in the NCCA tournament meaning 19 days between games played.
I could see any one of Notre Dame, Michigan State or Penn State coming to Mariucci in two weeks
Or Ohio State. Any of them are reasonable
B1G refs... corrupt, or just incompetent?
And might still have more games between now and the NCAA tourney, even if the Gophers play in the B1G championship.Penn State is #8 in Pairwise and the 6th seed in the Big Ten tournament.

Yep hence the reason coach keeps bringing it up.
Or Ohio State. Any of them are reasonable
Gophers can’t play Ohio State until the Big10 championship.
Or Ohio State. Any of them are reasonable
Since Ohio State is the 3 seed if they win the series against Penn State next weekend they can't play the Gophers in the semi finals since the Gophers would play a lower seeded team (4-7).
Michigan is winless in their last 4 games (2 loses and 2 ties). They lost both shoot outs so four straight games their opponent has celebrated winning.

I paired the Gophers up with 7/10 rather than 8/9 due to Penn State needing to be in Allentown as the host and figuring the Gophers as the #1 overall will be kept closest to home (Fargo).
There are currently 11 western teams and 5 eastern teams. Although, Penn State location wise is more eastern.
This bracket would set up the possibility of an all Big Ten frozen four.

You know they would make sure as sh!t that could not happen. They learned their lesson in 2005.
Since Big Ten team have national name recognition the NCAA might be ok with a Frozen Four of Minnesota, Michigan, Penn Sate, and Notre Dame.

The NCAA will do their damndest to prevent an all-conference F4. Smoky room, alley meetings, whatever.
When you tell somebody somethin', it depends on what part of the United States you're standin' in... as to just how dumb you are.

So pucks flying into the crowd is totally fine but a thin light stick is gonna hurt someone? I think it’s hilarious.

Um…conference postseason is also a…um…factor.
Both #19 Michigan St. (16-16-2) and #14 Notre Dame (15-14-5) are risk missing the NCAAs records not above .500.
Keep your stick on the ice...
