Mike Szmatula will play in Glens Falls this year for the Adirondack Thunder (ECHL). However, he shows up on the Binghamton Devils training camp roster.

Not a complete list, but here are some ex-Gophers that have been assigned to AHL teams.

Jim O'brien Belleville.

Seth Ambroz, Ryan Collins and Christian Isackson, Cleveland.

Adam Wilcox, Rochester.

Sam Lofquist, San Antonio.

Michael Brodzinski, San Jose.

Hudson Fasching, Tucson.

Some of the roster bubble former Gophers in the NHL

Jake Bischoff made the Vegas Golden Knights regular season roster. He's the 8th d man, so don't know how long he will be with the team.

Vinni Lettieri made the Rangers roster.

Travis Boyd injured his foot blocking a shot, and will start the season on the Caps IR list.

Justin 0.6 Holl has made the Leafs roster.

I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.

Looks like Jake Bischoff has made the final cut with Vegas. With Schmidt out for 20 games seems he’ll at least get a chance in the show. Looking back at the 14/15 season its incredible how badly that team under performed. Skjei, Rielly, Boyd, Fasching, Lettieri, Kloos and now Bischoff all have appeared in an NHL game and most have done well in the A. Truly a shame that they couldn’t find a way to come together as a team because there’s little doubt they had the talent to make a real run at it.

That was a weird year and the whole 7 D thing probably wasn't helping.

I can say on pretty good authority that there was a real disconnect between the team and the coaches and between the coaches as well that year. Heck, I failed to include Rau! That makes 8 guys! Not much of a stats researcher but not certain they’ve had teams with many more than 8 NHL alumni on them.

The '12-'13 team had Alt, Bjugstad, Boyd, Haula, Holl, Rau, Reilly, Schmidt, Skjei and Wilcox.

'13-'14 had Bischoff, Boyd, Fasching, Holl, Kloos, Lettieri, Rau, Reilly, Skjei and Wilcox.

Wilcox got 1 game in right?

You are correct about Wilcox. That’s a lot of talent that didn’t get to far except for the 13/14 season

12-13 through 14-15 should have produced more than three tournament wins. After that it was all downhill.

The question is, who's going to be the first member of this year's team to play in the NHL?

Jets are a favorite this year. Hoping Captain Wheeler pulls it off.

I think it's between Pitlick, Novak and Gates and I will go with Gates.

Pitlick or Brinkman...or Ranta/McLaughin IMO. I don’t think Gates has the wheels for the NHL. Novak has a decent shot of making it, but needs to stay healthy.

My pick is Pitlick. Brinkman too hard to project as a high school senior. Gates will have trouble keeping up at the next level, and Novak has had is chance in his 3 years here to prove he's above the crowd....hasn't separated himself enough.

Novak has averaged .74 P/G, doesn't take dumb penalties and has great vision. I agree that he's been slightly underwhelming to a degree but I think he has a ceiling that's higher than his output to date. Gates is probably more of a stretch but I admit.

I expect he'll have a better showing this year. More distance from the big injury

Hope you're right. I would like to see him be the impact player we had hoped, the type of player who can take over a game or score the decisive goal.

So far 14 Gophers with appearances.

CM, Lettieri, Haula, Bjugstad, Wheeler, Okposo, Kessel, Vanek

Seeler, Reilly, Skjei, Leddy, Goligoski, EJ

Plus Schmidt would make 15.

Huh, seeing the list above I went to see what happened to Paul Martin and saw him with the San Jose Barracuda. I'm off to check the Colorado Eagles schedule!

We've had a string of former Gopher D retire in the past few years, Leopold, Ballard, Martin...maybe another one or two?
