Being able to shoot the puck is a skill that can keep in you the NHL for a long time.
And prevent you from being drafted.
Former Maverick, Casey Nelson, started seeing some icetime on the #1 Defensive pair for the Sabres and scored his first NHL goal last night. Most here probably don't remember him too much, but he was one of the prize college free agents two years ago.
I know Blueger got called up to the Penguins, I don't think he got any icetime though. Not sure which club he is with currently.

No, he didn't get any ice time. Not sure if he was sent back down or not though.
Travis Boyd scores four tonight for AHL Hershey, Sam Warning gets his first AHL goal for San Jose.

Happy for Boyd - he had a cannon of a shot and hope he can have the opportunity to stay in the NHL, seems like he's earned that.
On an unrelated note, not sure who all has an Athletic subscription but thought this article was interesting today about a piece written on Anders Lee. Specifically of his recruitment (or what sounds like lack of real interest).
For those who don't have the subscription, this is what I was referring to in the article:
"Coincidence or not, on the trip over to Notre Dame, Anders got his first call from University of Minnesota coach Don Lucia, a Notre Dame alum, asking if Anders would be interested in being a Gopher. Well, like most Minnesota hockey players, Anders did. Once in South Bend, Indiana, though, Tom said, “Holy Cow, did Notre Dame push all the buttons. They had Anders down on the field at the football game, he ran through the tunnel. And Coach Jackson, this was the one head coach that knew every single thing about Anders’ life, including who his girlfriend was. Anders asked Jackson and Slaggert for a little time so he could also visit Minnesota. They agreed. Long story short, after weeks of getting the run-around from the Gophers, Anders said, “They were just slow playing it. The love wasn’t there, if that makes sense. And honestly, I knew when I left Notre Dame’s campus basically that I was going to go there.”
Obviously we know we can't get everyone and such, but for a guy who had Lee's potential and played in 5 State Tournaments I just figured we would have pushed our recruitment on him harder or at least earlier than Wisc / Harvard / Notre Dame (as Lee says in the article he was interested in playing for the Gophers). FWIW, not to be "that guy" but his recruitment chapter sounds eerily similar to Boeser's from what I've gathered too (again, take it for what it's worth). Can't get them all but just found it interesting.

But, he also dreamed of playing for Notre Dame as a kid. Would have loved him on the Gophers, but not going to lose sleep over him.
I'm 50% factual and 50% sarcastic. When you get to know me, you will know which is which.
You don't try to date every hot girl you see even when single. Maybe Lee didn't excite the Gophers the way other recruits did at the same time including one of his Edina teammates? Unless you can tell me this is how they recruit everyone it's a nothingburger. Plus sometimes they just get it wrong.

Wasn't Lee pretty heavily recruited by quite a few schools as a quarterback too? Or at least considered to be a top quarterback prospect?

The article says he had offers from Wyoming, Northern Illinois and Air Force so not really.

Yeah I didn't bother to read the article, I was going on my recollection.

this kid’s been back and forth all year
Amanda Kessel's Brother, if real this is awesome
...and this means...what...exactly?
Throughout the tournament you had people like Pierre referring to some of the women's players as the wife of (NHL player husband) in some cases. You don't really see it happen the other way nearly as often.
Amanda's brother has 2 goals tonight
Bjugstad drops the gloves vs Pens tonight. ( did not fair well )

Jane Fonda made the comment now about, how he was happy we protected Dumba. Jane Fonda wasn't posting this Summer about Dumba. Nice try though! Unless Jane Fonda is, "All Those People," in which case your little poke still doesn't work.
And as far as Dumba, I am happy we kept him. He is 23 years old and is having a great season on a blueline that was recently the #1 scoring core in the league, not sure if that is still the case. He and Brodin are both having great years.
If anyone is laughing to the bank right now it is all the owners that got paid for letting Vegas in the league.
Vegas has to be laughing themselves to the bank at Fletcher right now.
Interesting insight from Boudreau on PA this morning--when Hanzal was picked up he wasn't sure Haula ever bought in to being a fourth line center. Haula is playing a top-six role in Vegas, don't think he'd ever get ahead of Koivu or Staal with the Wild.
Boyd recalled again for Capitals

Correct. Also Haula was a RFA after last year and wasn't in the Wilds long term plans regardless of Vegas.

Dumba still has the most potential of anyone in the Wild system, they don't have anyone else like him. He is 10th in scoring for defensemen in the Western Conference and of that group he's the youngest.

Once I found out the Wild were keeping Brodin first AND Dumba, I was okay with the whole thing. Just because a guy goes off and has a good year doesn't mean a mistake was made.
Vegas has to be laughing themselves to the bank at pretty much every GM right now.
It's a shining example of how inept most of the GMs in this league are

You're awfully sensitive huh?
This may come as a shock to you but there are people who talk about the Wild in places other than the MN Wild thread where you condescend anybody who may have a different opinion than you.
Namely Twitter. Where around the franchise entry draft there were hundreds of tweets begging the Wild not to protect Dumba because he "sucks at defense" (a theme I saw quite often early on this season when people ripped him).

And they have so many draft picks that they can basically make any trade they want this offseason too. The NHL sure as hell set them up to succeed early.

Actually, Vegas is middle of the pack in 2018 draft picks after sending 3 to Detroit for Tommy TaterTot. The floor is 5, the ceiling is 11, Vegas has 7.

Not only that but a ton of cap space as well. They basically acquired a fourth rounder for free by just picking up some of Brassard's salary in the Penguins/Ottawa trade. And 34, they got extra picks for other years it's not just 2018.

Top if off that Vegas only got involved to keep Brassy out of Winnipeg.

Not sure if it's that or if McPhee just wanted to do the Penguins a solid over the Fleury trade. I know that's what they said but they can't even face them until the conference finals if it even comes to that. It seems like a stretch but maybe they legitimately thought that.

Before the Tatar trade they had a first and 3 second round picks for the 2019 draft. Plus two third rounders. So they still have 5 picks in the first 3 rounds in 2019. One of the picks they traded for Tatar was in 2021, one was for 2019 and one this year. In 2020 they also have a first and two second rounders.
The Haula deal didn't protect Dumba, it protected one of Brodin, Scandella, Staal, or Zucker. Dumba's salary is too low for him to ever be a consideration. You also have to realize that the Haula that Vegas got was never going to happen here.

Yes, they have future picks, but this coming draft, they are middle of the pack (the Tater 2018 pick is a #1). Here's some info if you are interested.

"As soon as Guentzel gets on the bench, he takes a puck that is part of the stack on the bench and tries to land it into the closest faceoff circle curling-style until he gets it. Other than that, it's relatively laid-back in terms of routines and superstitions. The biggest one is usually that the older guys, like Phil Kessel and Patric Hornqvist, tend to leave the ice first."
Big shock that Kessel is one of the first guys off the ice at practice.
