Hockey East was close but missed in 2017-18 because Notre Dame had moved to the Big Ten and made it that year.

Thank you. :)

Because I support Gopher hockey, not the conference they are in. That is, I'm not a "Big Ten hockey fan", but I still obviously go to games.

And the national champion doesn't need to come from the best conference. But you have to respect the level of play they have and I still daydream of a creative cross conference solution which would increase the buzz around the program.

I’m biased but the UMD bracket is soft. Bulldogs should win and go to frozen four.

And Watching the whouix lose was like a win.

It's interesting because 4/5 matches up on paper with 12/13, and therefore may be slightly more likely to be soft like it is this year than 1/8/9/16 and 3/6/11/14 where you have three good teams.

I think it’s fantastic that you support Gopher hockey. I would think you would want to support their conference because….it is part of Gopher hockey.

As far as respecting the level of play, I don’t disagree with you one bit. BUT my arch rival when I was playing HS hockey was Warroad and I respected how good they were……..but I didn’t walk around telling everyone how great they were.

I'd just like to go on record that the Gophers are the only team that matters, the Big Ten was a mistake but I've come to accept it, and the NCHC can lick my butt.

Hopefully this keeps me in the administration's good graces.

I’m just commenting on what I see and admittedly it’s biased, not mathematical, just my opinion. What a stinko call on M Tech’s Halonen in first period, we will never know if Tech could have had a shot. The Cinderella teams beating the giants is the best part!. I’m not a fan of any conference, I want to see the mighty fall. Except the gophers, of course. Go gophers!

Big 10 - 7 teams with 23 national titles, 77 FF appearances, and 154 tournament appearances.

NCHC - 8 teams with 21 national titles, 66 FF appearances, and 135 tournament appearances.

It should be glaringly obvious that the NCHC blows goats…

It was too bad Halonen got tossed, I didn’t think the hit warranted an ejection, not even sure it would be called a penalty in an NHL game. In an NCAA game, a two or a five…but not an ejection. It’s deflating losing your best player in the first period…happened to UMD when Cates was ejected in the Icebreaker while UMD was outshooting Michigan like 12-1 in first period, it totally changed the game. It’s like the NCAA officials go a little overboard looking to call majors which result in ejections…if there’s intent to injure, sure, eject them, but there’s a lot if borderline hits resulting in ejections in NCAA games.

I can’t make it any simpler, they have more teams and less everything else. The Big 10 is basically Frodo’s ring, the one true conference to rule them all.

If it is as cut and dry as this release says, why did it take 10+ minutes to determine? Seems like they are making this up after the fact.

How do the two conferences compare in those same numbers since the Big Ten and NCHC were formed? Please share those for another perspective.

Are you actually in Loveland today? Arena doesn’t look that full but it’s hard to tell.

No, but a buddy and I flew out there about 10 years ago for a WCHA series against Denver. We snowmobiled in the mountains, we went to a nearby town with a bunch of casinos, we drank beer up and down the main drag (17th?). I even got kicked out of a bar. It was a BLAST!

Tech v Duluth

Not the most violent check, but nowhere in the clip did the Tech player see the UMD player from the side or front. It was all back.

Rule 50 - Hitting From Behind

50.1 Hitting From Behind - A player shall not push, charge, cross-check or body

check an opponent from behind in open ice.

PENALTY—Minor or major at the discretion of the referee.

Hitting from behind into the side boards, end boards or goal cage is a

flagrant violation.

PENALTY—Major and game misconduct or disqualification at the

discretion of the referee.

Note: The committee reminds coaches and players that the responsibility

remains with the player approaching an opponent along the boards in this rule.

While players turning to draw penalties are a concern, the positive change in

behavior the committee observed outweighs this issue. Any penalty in relation to

this rule along the boards or into the goal cage must be a major penalty and a

game misconduct or disqualification.

Wow, 9 periods of "fire-wagon" hockey but UNoDak taking a page out of the Gopher's playbook - "Playing Down to Notre Dame's level" - and loosing . . . . I wonder if MSU-Mankato will be able to play "fire-wagon" hockey against them?

Meanwhile, Best Wishes to the Gophers vs the Minutemen!

Not knowing what to do, they do what they know . . .
Knowing what to do, they sometime don't do it . . .
The 26th year of the Gopher Men's Hockey Profile got to be too much for this ol' codger to handle . . . what with all of the possible activity on the transfer portal . . . . So, I'm closing it down at the 25th year . . .

Anybody who thinks playing Notre Dame should be easy didn't bother checking their record against Michigan this year.

Notre Dame plays the way Jeff Jackson wants them to play. They are very hard to play against.

I think the Cows will have the same issue with Notre Dame that they did against the Beavers. Slowing the game down is what the Mavs have issues with. Notre Dame needs to approach this game the same way they did against all those games vs. Michigan. It may be a boring game to watch but I think it will come down to the end like the Harvard game and the CCHA Championship game did. I don't think the Mavs will come out screaming like they did against us after nearly losing to Q last year in the first round of regionals.

OT games could certainly cut into that, and having 6 games to watch on Saturday did mean that if one of them wasn't worth watching, you could frequently change, but I think the day of rest for the teams before the regional final and getting the games set up so that I can actually watch all of them is definitely a great change.
