1:08 Oh, not too bad. 1:09 Not too bad. 1:11 We're doing well. 1:12 We're doing well. 1:13 This is technology. 1:14 I mean, I'm blown away by this. 1:16 I'm talking to my computer screen right now. 1:17 Yes, you are. 1:18 And you know, we're doing this via Skype and this is all new for you. 1:21 I know, but you better get used to it because what are you doing soon? 1:25 You're doing your own podcast. 1:27 Yeah, well, not my own. 1:28 Well, you know what? 1:31 I know you're gonna have someone on with you, but you know what, the radio situation just kind of gone to nowhere because I heard you talk about it last week that there's no money being put into radio anymore and it's killing the whole area. 1:43 But this podcasting thing is a new thing and it might be just up your alley. 1:48 Well, I'm telling you, from the middle of January till early February was kind of tough personally for me. 1:57 I mean, there's nothing out there. 1:58 I mean, I called people who I know like me and I know respect me like, you know, Mick Anselmo and I mean, Dan Seaman had to let me go. 2:05 These are guys I've known forever and nobody has anything. 2:08 And, you know, everybody thought I was gonna just walk into the ticket. 2:12 I mean, they waived my no compete at 1500 and my bosses thought or told me, I mean, if they don't hire you in a week, they're idiots. 2:20 I went over and I did two hours and I'm gonna, I don't wanna tell too many tales out of school but I think I fell victim to some rumors and some misinformation and it's a little disturbing to me. 2:33 But I mean, I basically spent a week and a half, kind of moping around thinking, it's curtains. 2:38 I mean, that was my last chance and now there's, misinformation about me or whatever and I didn't know where it came from and it was completely inaccurate. 2:49 Then all of a sudden I met with Sean Bernard and a week later I got something going on again and it's right up my alley. 2:54 So we'll see, I mean, I'm pretty excited. 2:56 I mean, is this gonna be this or house painter? 2:58 So what the hell? 2:59 So you're gonna be part of like the Tom Bernard kind of little podcast network or what's going on with that? 3:04 Yeah, yep, they're gonna have 24 hours programming. 3:08 I mean, it's gonna be around the clock eventually. 3:11 Right now, I guess I'm the, not counting Tom, I'm the first daily show, but there's two more that are just about to sign on. 3:18 Actually three more. 3:19 And I don't know if I'm at liberty to divulge, but they're- 3:21 Oh, you don't need to do that. 3:22 Don't wanna get you in trouble right off the bat. 3:24 They're all Twin Cities media types. 3:26 Actually one's a Hollywood media type from Minnesota. 3:29 That's all I'm gonna say. 3:30 So just back off. 3:33 Who can't? 3:34 But this whole thing's new to you. 3:36 Well, this is actually your first real podcast right here. 3:40 Oh, well yeah. 3:43 Yeah, talking into a microphone about sports, just talking into a microphone about sports. 3:47 Of course, I'm not getting paid for this. 3:48 It's a little different. 3:49 Well, neither are we, so. 3:55 But I'm in a dark room with no clothes on, so that's familiar. 3:57 Oh, too much information. 4:01 Too much information. 4:02 That is totally you, though. 4:05 Sorry, I had to put that drop in there. 4:08 So what's the format gonna be like? 4:09 I mean, you're just picking what's happening in sports that particular day or week, or I mean, what's the format gonna be? 4:16 It's local sports. 4:17 I mean, I know when you're on the internet, you're wherever anybody wants to hear you, but the show's gonna be in Minnesota. 4:23 It's gonna be a local sports show, as if it was on local air. 4:27 But we're not gonna have the commercial breaks, we're not gonna have the fluff and all this. 4:30 So what we're gonna do, since I've been known to talk fast anyway and be a little frenetic. 4:35 And I decided it wasn't gonna be a cerebral meandering through the meadows of your sports mind. 4:41 It's gonna be a frenetic, fast-paced 60 minutes where we're gonna give you a three-hour talk show worth of content in 60 minutes and call it Give Me 60. 4:48 Give Me 60. 4:49 Yeah, we're gonna save you two hours a day. 4:52 You're gonna get everything you need in one hour and then save two hours a day. 4:55 And this starts Monday, right? 4:57 It starts Monday, yeah. 4:58 Yeah, and we today actually hatched an idea to, because it's such a perfect marriage. 5:03 We hatched an idea to do a Vikings post-game show next year because- 5:06 That would be off the charts. 5:07 Can you imagine a Vikings post-game show where the hosts and callers can swear? 5:12 It's gonna be ridiculous. 5:14 I'm serious. 5:15 I mean, can you imagine? 5:17 Well, the only problem is you still got to worry about the drunk idiots, though. 5:21 But no, you don't. 5:21 It's the internet. 5:22 Well, sometimes with the drunk idiots, they'll just kind of... 5:25 Goat! 5:25 Well, they're on the phone with you. 5:26 It doesn't matter. 5:29 There are no laws. 5:29 It's Thunderdome. 5:31 That is true. 5:32 I mean, if you're a disgruntled Vikings fan, and they all are, to an extent, and they lay an egg against, you know, Chicago, are you gonna want to call Ben Lieber and break it down with all due respect to Ben, like in a real clinical kind of a fashion? 5:45 You want to call me and Tom Bernard and just go on a profanity-laced tirade that makes you so spent you need a cigarette when you're... 5:56 Well, I assume you're gonna like, you know, obviously you're gonna be recording a podcast, you'll release podcasts, you know, an hour or two after you're done, but are you gonna be broadcasting live like you guys were this afternoon as well? 6:08 We are gonna be live daily at 8 p.m. 6:11 8 p.m. 6:12 Yeah, it will be, and the, this is a little tricky, this stuff I don't totally get. 6:17 We don't have an app yet, so to download it, you'll have to go to jeffdubay.com. 6:21 But if you want to hear it live at 8 o'clock, it will be on the Tom Bernard Show app. 6:27 So it will be available live on his app, but not on demand on his app. 6:32 I see. 6:33 I've figured out ways to listen to it without those apps, so. 6:37 Well, you're welcome to come over and sit in on the table anytime you want. 6:40 I'm just kidding. 6:43 No, but you're welcome to have guests. 6:44 I mean, they got a bar, they got a wet bar. 6:46 That's a really nice set up. 6:48 So you're gonna have guests on the show then? 6:51 Yeah, you know, I'm... 6:53 You can do whatever you want. 6:54 Yeah, yeah, we can. 6:56 And it's only one hour. 6:58 So I don't want to do more than a guest a day. 7:00 I mean, I want to just use people that I've used in the past and have good relationships with, you know. 7:04 But you're gonna do it at 8 p.m. 7:07 When Diane's got a real great relationship with Quincy Lewis and Jim Peterson, they've already committed. 7:12 So it's gonna be, you know, the typical talk show types. 7:15 But doing it at 8 p.m. 7:16 is gonna kind of cut in on your go for hockey. 7:20 Yeah. 7:20 At least on Friday nights. 7:22 We actually do get eight o'clock starts fairly frequently now. 7:24 Yeah, but you know. 7:25 I just think the network is gonna actually, you know, do me a solid here by delaying the start times of games. 7:30 So you're going to, are you gonna be, so from eight to nine or seven to eight or? 7:34 Oh, and here's the other thing too. 7:35 I mean, yeah, it's gonna be, it's eight to nine. 7:38 But I mean, I coach a baseball team in the summer up in Maple Grove. 7:41 But I mean, if I want to, I can go and record the show too. 7:43 I mean, if I want to do a Friday show and get it in the can, I can get it done by dinnertime if I want to. 7:49 It's the world of the podcast. 7:51 That's true, you know. 7:53 One thing we like to do is we broadcast live. 7:54 People are listening right now. 7:56 They could tweet us live. 7:57 So make sure you push that live part of it, so. 8:00 Yeah, eight o'clock is gonna be the standard, but there will be times where it just might move for a day or two, because I got stuff going on. 8:06 Because it's just the way how you get interactive. 8:08 We've got people tweeting us questions right now that we can answer live as we're recording the podcast. 8:13 Yeah, we might take calls from listeners if we can coordinate it well enough. 8:17 Well, there you go. 8:19 There you go. 8:19 So, well, it's positive for you, isn't it? 8:23 Oh, hell yeah. 8:24 Are you kidding? 8:24 It's life-affirming. 8:26 I mean, it was the rope down the well, for God's sake. 8:29 I mean, like I said, I was just gonna go do whatever I could, just make a few bucks until I could figure out what direction it was gonna be. 8:37 I was gonna start calling Learfield and places like that because there just aren't any stations left. 8:43 So the funny thing is, five or 10 years from now, I mean, even three, four years from now, you might, if this trend continues, I mean, I know Tom Bernhardt is a different animal. 8:54 I mean, Tom Bernhardt is one of the most successful, commercially successful radio personalities in the history of this market, probably the most in the history of this market, but his show is printing money. 9:05 I mean, it's unbelievable that he has a chance to maybe make enough on that show in the next couple of years, too, to leave radio, I mean, to leave over-the-air radio and just sit in a room and swear with his buddies for a living. 9:18 And that's kind of a dream he has. 9:19 And just the way radio is trending and the way podcasts and internet is trending, and you're looking at the internet coming up in cars in the not-too-distant future, like reliable internet. 9:29 Yeah, yeah. 9:30 You might see a lot of radio personalities make this move by design rather than out of necessity like I did. 9:36 But it's going to be... 9:37 I mean, I'm excited. 9:38 It's a blast. 9:38 I own the show. 9:39 I control the revenue. 9:40 I mean, it's my own thing, and I cannot be fired. 9:44 I mean, unless I really get mad at them. 9:48 Well, how about that? 9:49 What about the revenue? 9:50 I mean, do you have something coming in or is that something you need to build on your own? 9:54 Well, it's something we build as a partnership. 9:55 It's why I'm part of a network. 9:56 If I went out and tried to build a podcast, and I couldn't do it. 10:02 I wouldn't have a prayer. 10:02 I wouldn't have the physical plants. 10:04 Not that you need much. 10:05 I mean, I'm talking into a computer screen right now. 10:07 But I mean, you gotta have a client base. 10:09 You gotta have just some wherewithal. 10:11 I mean, Sean Bernard is a guy I worked with at Clear Channel years ago. 10:15 And he's Tom's nephew, but he's also the top digital media sales guy in the market. 10:20 That's not even close. 10:21 I mean, in the digital sales, if you know what you're doing, the advertisers, they're blown away by it because they're looking at website hits and direct marketing. 10:32 I mean, like you can say, hey, Common Man told me to stop on by, but you don't know who heard the spot if it's on the radio. 10:38 But anything that's podcast is directly, I mean, there's a click. 10:42 I mean, there's a view, there's a download, and people know exactly what they're getting. 10:46 And I think the targeting is even better as well. 10:49 You know, I kind of, I followed, I followed this another type of podcasting network called the Twit Network. 10:56 It was done by Leo Laporte out of San Francisco. 11:00 And he built his own thing. 11:01 You know, he got, he wasn't on television anymore. 11:04 He was starting this podcast thing thing when it was just the beginning and he built it up. 11:08 It's a whole tech network. 11:09 They talk about windows, they talk about podcasts, and you talk about, you know, Macintosh, security, all this technical stuff. 11:17 For the nerds, but that allows them to target specifically in their advertising. 11:22 I mean, it's just an advertising revenue that's really targeted, and that's what advertisers need these days. 11:29 Well, the podcast demographic is off the charts. 11:32 I remember when I was working with the fan, everybody envied our demographics as men 25 to 54. 11:38 So that just, you know, those are the consumers, those are the spenders and the earners, you know, to a large extent. 11:43 And the podcast audiences, and you know, for those out there listening to us right now, you're the cream of that crop. 11:49 I mean, you're the educated and profitable and lucrative yuppie crew who doesn't turn on the radio, you download something off a website because you're in an office behind a desk. 12:00 You know, not in a ditch, you know, with a pickaxe. 12:03 Not that there's anything wrong with that. 12:05 The world needs ditch diggers too, right? 12:09 Yes, I mean, I've been on a train gang. 12:12 No, I haven't. 12:12 Oh, wow. 12:14 I'm just kidding. 12:16 Well, we'll take any advertisers. 12:18 If anyone wants to advertise on the GPL Podcast, just let me know. 12:22 Yeah, it's a great demographic. 12:23 I mean, the podcast listener is a very desirable demographic. 12:27 We'll take the money, won't we, Hammeh? 12:30 You think I'm going to see any of it? 12:32 Hell, yeah. 12:33 If we sell advertising on here, it's being delved out equally, let me tell you. 12:39 I'll believe it when I see the check. 12:40 Yeah, I know. 12:40 Nobody cares. 12:42 It's go for hockey, man. 12:44 We're definitely a small audience. 12:47 Yeah, but I mean, it's a loyal crew too. 12:50 I mean, you'd think of places like Stubbets, you know, that kind of a place would be interesting. 12:56 I'm thinking places like Ticket King and even like that would be excellent even for you guys. 13:02 Yeah, because you're talking sports. 13:04 Absolutely, yeah. 13:05 No, we'll definitely talk to Ticket Places. 13:09 I actually have never thought of myself as a networker. 13:12 I'm just a guy who throws out opinions and BSs, but they've been having me go through my mental Rolodex, which is a little damaged. 13:22 I'm not gonna lie to you, but there's a few cards missing. 13:24 But I'm dusting off the people that, like Tom Smith is an optimal mortgage guy. 13:29 I mean, I'm not gonna call Body Solutions up and see what they're doing these days. 13:35 There's a few advertisers I'm gonna look to get in touch with, maybe Continental Diamonds, try to step in and say hi to some old friends. 13:40 I'm gonna be making some sales calls. 13:42 I'm gonna be a man about town. 13:43 Well, it's your show. 13:44 You can do whatever the hell you want. 13:46 If I could get a massage parlor, that would be awesome. 13:48 Oh boy, here we go. 13:49 You're not doing the podcast from Duluth, are you? 13:52 Oh geez, that's sketchy. 13:53 That is. 13:55 I think there's an Asian Rubbin Tuggin Hopkins. 13:58 Oh, Asian Rubbin Tuggin Hopkins. 14:00 Hopkins has places that if I would have been 10 years older than I was at the time, I'd probably be in jail right now. 14:07 I'd have to jail out, I mean, like the long-term jail. 14:10 Well, it sounds like you're pretty excited. 14:12 It's something totally new for you, and boy, it's... 14:15 I was out of breath because I was drinking some grape juice. 14:17 I'm not that excited. 14:19 You should be excited. 14:20 I mean, obviously, like you said, the local market is starting to suck. 14:25 It just is. 14:26 You know, I feel bad for Chad Hartman over there, WCCO. 14:30 It seems like he can't talk more in three sentences before. 14:33 He has to go to commercial. 14:35 Yeah, I'm not that familiar with their clock or their format. 14:39 Oh, it's so... 14:40 But I mean, I feel sorry, to be honest with you, that I have some concerns for the guys that I left behind at my most recent stop, because that's an amp signal. 14:50 You just can't put numbers. 14:51 You can't turn numbers there. 14:53 And they, I mean, there's some quality programming there. 14:55 And it's just... 14:55 Oh yeah? 14:56 I mean, I was like, just before Christmas, I'd run into people and they'd recognize me and say, hey, what are you up to these days? 15:04 Like I've been at ESPN 1500 for 10 months, but nobody knows, but it is what it is. 15:11 Well, a lot of us Gopher Hockey guys were listening to you. 15:14 I appreciate it. 15:16 You know what I miss? 15:17 Lou Nanny. 15:17 I miss Lou Nanny. 15:18 I gotta get him on my podcast. 15:19 Well, do it. 15:20 I will. 15:21 There you go. 15:22 You've got all these connections. 15:23 Get the Don on there. 15:25 Get, you know, get Grant Patoli. 15:28 Oh yeah? 15:29 He's got a paid deal. 15:31 He's got a paid deal with the fan, but I don't know if a conflict with a podcast would be a conflict. 15:35 Patoli doesn't. 15:36 Well, what I'm trying to angle on is that I want to get, I want to get PA to come in. 15:40 So we can have at least one reunion show. 15:42 Well, people will listen to it. 15:44 It's just a podcast. 15:45 It's not broadcasting over the radio. 15:48 So hopefully, Clear Channel wouldn't have a problem with that. 15:51 But I think it would just come down to whether or not Chad Abbott would be agreeable to it and since we're friends, I think you probably wouldn't. 15:58 Well, I heard you talking on Tom's podcast last week actually that if they were to put you two back together, the ratings would probably go through the roof again, but there's no money anymore. 16:10 Yeah, I'm just basing that off. 16:12 I mean, I can't go on Twitter without seeing 10 requests a day for the PNDB reunion. 16:19 It's really pretty touching, pretty moving to be honest with you. 16:24 It's been a long time. 16:25 Hell, it was 2008. 16:26 I mean, that's six years ago. 16:27 I'm surprised people didn't remember, but I don't know. 16:31 It was part of people's routine. 16:32 I was listening to it every day. 16:34 Well, we were having so much fun. 16:37 I mean, I screwed it up. 16:38 It's my own fault. 16:39 But people see me unemployed and available, and they think, well, you know what? 16:46 Why don't they do it? 16:47 But Clear Channel isn't Chad Abbott, Dan Barrero and Paul Allen. 16:52 It's a bunch of guys in San Antonio. 16:53 They don't give a damn about an old show that was on in Minnesota. 16:56 They care about what the bottom line is at the end of the quarter. 17:00 I'm not a priority for people in San Antonio. 17:03 Well, let's get into some Gopher hockey, guys. 17:06 Yeah, that's what this is about. 17:07 That's what it's about. 17:08 Well, we had to catch up with you. 17:10 Thanks, Justin. 17:11 I appreciate it. 17:13 You've got to grow up with this knuckle, Chuck. 17:14 Let me notice if I was five. 17:18 Well, the Gophers had the week off last week, which was nice. 17:21 Actually, I just saw a tweet from Gopher Hockey wondering on a scale of one to ten how much did we miss them last weekend. 17:27 Well, of course we missed them. 17:28 You weren't playing. 17:30 But the weekend before that, we swept Michigan. 17:32 Hammy, 5-3, 4-1, sweep over Michigan. 17:36 Hopefully, they're in the rear-view mirror. 17:38 But give me your initial thoughts on the Michigan series. 17:42 The feeling was that it was great to see them kind of rebound considering the prior two weeks, especially offensively. 17:48 We had struggled for a couple of weeks, and now we got nine goals against Michigan. 17:52 Granted, it's a different style of play that they have, but nonetheless, it was great to see them rebound offensively. 17:58 Certainly, you know, it was, to me, I think it's a burgeoning rivalry. 18:02 I've talked about this for a while. 18:03 I think this is going to be eventually, not right now, but eventually the replacement for the North Dakota rivalry because all the games that we're going to be playing them every single year, they're probably going to be meaningful games. 18:15 We saw some of the cheap shots that we got from Michigan, which usually helps get that rivalry cooked up. 18:21 So I think that that certainly is, you know, an exciting thing from a big-picture standpoint. 18:24 But overall, it was a great weekend. 18:27 Well, for me, like I've said this many times in the past, Michigan has always been the number two rivalry for me. 18:33 You know, those losses in the NCAA tournament back in the 90s, the college hockey showcase, the games were always fast-paced, entertaining, just like the North Dakota games. 18:43 So they've always been my number two before even other teams like Wisconsin and, you know, Duluth and whatever. 18:50 Jeff, what do you think about this rekindled rivalry with Michigan? 18:55 Oh, there's no doubt. 18:56 It's the up-and-comer. 18:58 I mean, it's going to be, like Cammie said, it's going to be the king of the hill. 19:02 And if anybody thinks that you've elevated it too quickly, you know, the difference between people who have that rivalry in an elite level and those who aren't quite ready to put it there yet, that's the difference between those who have been to Yost and those who haven't. 19:15 Michigan fans are the scum of the earth. 19:18 I had no idea until I experienced it firsthand. 19:24 I mean, Gopher fans... 19:26 I feel a symbiotico with when I'm on the road and I'm in a town with Michigan State fans or Boston College fans because we don't have a bitter, horrible, brutal history against those teams and they beat teams that we want them to beat and vice versa. 19:37 We get each other's backs, kind of like how Maine and North Dakota had kind of like a man-on-man love affair going on for a while too. 19:44 Not that there's anything wrong with that. 19:48 These Michigan State fans, they'd paint these pictures of these Michigan fans basically being drunk, rabid Badger fans. 19:57 They made it sound like it couldn't possibly be as bad as all that. 20:00 And then you go to Ann Arbor and you're just like, oh my God. 20:05 You've been to Yos, both of you, right? 20:07 I have not. 20:08 It is a zoo and the people are horrible. 20:11 And my first exposure there was actually at NCAA Regional in 2002. 20:16 Oh, with CC? 20:17 Yeah, we beat CC. 20:18 We didn't even have to play Michigan. 20:20 It was beautiful because we had the early game. 20:21 And we punched our ticket and then Denver was playing Michigan. 20:26 And these Michigan fans have just been horrible all weekend. 20:31 And after the first intermission of the Michigan-Denver game, which is a game Michigan won in comfort behind fashion against a Denver team that never gave up leads. 20:38 They were so stingy, Dublowitz and that crew. 20:40 Oh, that was a good team. 20:41 But this Michigan fan came up to me and said, who do you want to see win this game? 20:46 And I said, you, because we'll beat you. 20:48 I mean, Denver took us in the Final Five title game in very workmanlike fashion. 20:54 They were no fun. 20:55 I mean, I wanted Michigan. 20:58 The Gophers have had Michigan's numbers since the turn of the century. 21:02 Or the millennium, actually. 21:03 I guess you want to be big about it. 21:04 How stupid are their fans, though? 21:06 Are they as dumb as Badger fans? 21:08 You know, it's so dumb. 21:09 They think Yoast is like this great old venue. 21:12 And it's still a place for games. 21:14 But it was a field house until, like, what, 1970 or something? 21:16 I mean, it's only recently been a hockey arena, I believe. 21:20 I mean, it's not like it was a hockey arena when it was built in the 1920s or whatever. 21:24 It's kind of like we got nothing else to do with this piece of crap. 21:27 Let's play hockey in it. 21:29 And it's got some flavor. 21:31 And I do miss old barns because the WCHA turned very modern. 21:37 And I do miss just the old dingy, smelly, musty places like the Deck and the Dane, and the old Mariucci and the old Ralph. 21:45 Having said that, I mean, Yost is not a place where they were playing hockey in 1920. 21:51 It's kind of like faux historic. 21:54 It's cozy, but it's just too obnoxious to enjoy. 21:57 So I should be concerned if I ever go there then. 21:59 The fans are jack bags, basically you're saying. 22:02 But I mean, you'll get a feel that you kind of had at the old Mariucci. 22:07 I mean, it's not set up exactly the same, but it's a field house where you are crammed in. 22:14 It's a fun atmosphere. 22:15 I mean, you got to do it sometime before you die. 22:17 I mean, it's like running with the bulls. 22:19 Well, and the other thing you have to remember about rivalries is the changing nature of rivalries over history. 22:24 I mean, my father, I talked with him about this. 22:26 He went to the U kind of early 60s. 22:29 And back then, the rivalries were Denver and Michigan. 22:32 I mean, North Dakota wasn't even on the map in terms of rivalries at that point. 22:37 And so I understood why a lot of fans were upset about North Dakota and all the changes and all that. 22:42 But I think that they need to realize you have to give it time for some of these things to build up. 22:47 And I think Michigan, no doubt, will be one of the top one or two rivalries for the Gophers moving forward. 22:53 Well, and the games are the games are always fun to me because, you know, while Wisconsin is clearly a historic rivalry that will stay a rivalry going forward, they're just, they're no fun. 23:04 I mean, you can only see so many two-to-one games before you just go, Jesus, get these guys out of the league. 23:09 Oh, we were bitching a couple weeks ago about that. 23:12 We got swept by Wisconsin. 23:13 We were bitching about their style of play. 23:15 Well, yeah, because it's freaking boring as hell. 23:18 Yeah, when people, for years and years, people always ask you, well, if there's a coach in the college ranks that's ready to move up, who would it be? 23:27 And it never happens. 23:28 They go from Canadian juniors up into the AAHL. 23:32 They don't come from college hockey. 23:33 I mean, Blaze tried to do it. 23:34 He couldn't do it. 23:35 But you look at guys who play system hockey and stick to system hockey, just nailed to the cross system hockey. 23:44 And Eaves is the poster bullet for it. 23:46 I mean, he plays in NHL style, and he's inflexible. 23:49 He never leaves it. 23:52 And his guys come out very NHL ready, I mean, to his credit. 23:54 And he's successful with less talent than a lot of other people have. 23:58 If there was a coach that you just could hand pick out of college and say, you need a college guy to go coach a pro team, which doesn't happen. 24:05 But if you did, Eaves would be the guy. 24:08 Can't stand it. 24:09 Just can't stand it. 24:10 I literally missed the old Jeff Sauer Badger teams. 24:15 It was just way more fun, and it just pisses me off. 24:20 That's all. 24:20 Yeah, you just don't have Max Williams running around being an idiot anyway. 24:27 Yeah, take that, as Glenn would say. 24:31 Well, the Badgers swept Michigan State this past weekend, and that didn't do us any good. 24:36 We could have had Michigan State at least win one of those games. 24:40 They were, again, low-scoring games. 24:45 God, I hate the Badgers. 24:47 Yeah, well, they're not going to... 24:50 I mean, if you're an insomniac, they'd probably be the team to watch, right? 24:53 So, I mean, I don't know. 24:55 I mean, they argue that they're such a great... 24:58 their team is great, and they argue that they're not playing that kind of slow-it-down style, but the reality is that most of their games... 25:05 they've had such a weak schedule this year, as far as the last two months. 25:10 I mean, they've had some teams, the Gophers, and they played Michigan, but the last couple months, they haven't played the cream of the crop. 25:17 So, I mean, you have to kind of look into those stats a little bit with a skeptical view. 25:21 But they swept. 25:24 You have to give them credit for that. 25:25 And you kind of expect them to at home. 25:27 They've been really good at home this year and terrible on the road. 25:30 So hopefully with these last four games of theirs on the road, even though one series is against Penn State, hopefully they'll drop one or two. 25:37 Well, they're only one point back now. 25:39 I mean, we do have two games in hand, but they're one point back. 25:42 And obviously, even with the two games in hand, the Gophers really need to just kind of get through this and keep Wisconsin behind them. 25:51 You know what was so weird last year? 25:52 The last time we saw Wisconsin in the regular season, they looked like nothing. 25:56 I mean, they were nothing by the end of the year. 25:59 I don't know where it came from. 26:00 I mean, we see, you know, North Dakota get off to slow starts and come charging, and we got used to it. 26:05 The Gophers had done it from time to time. 26:08 But Wisconsin was a team that, I mean, we were going to February last year. 26:11 I'm thinking, this team has nothing. 26:13 And when the brackets came out, I mean, I looked at the 16, and I had them in the frozen four. 26:17 I mean, I really thought that they were on that kind of a run. 26:19 Of course, they made me look like an idiot again, so I hate them even more. 26:22 But what they do is they have enough to have a couple of, you know, really good, reliable guys on the blue line and one really good line. 26:31 I mean, like, you know, the Mersh is angrily. 26:32 I mean, they can load up a line that will score a goal or two, and then everybody else will just go up and check you to death, and it can be enough, and it sucks. 26:43 Just boring as hell. 26:44 It wins, you know, we hate it, it wins, but I'm allowed to hate it because it's just... 26:49 It wins some. 26:49 I mean, if they wouldn't have been the only team ever to get a regional and a frozen four in their home state, they'd be titleists going back to what? 26:58 Could be. 27:00 Well, after playing us, getting swept by us, Michigan plays Penn State at Yost and splits with them, Jeff. 27:11 Friday night was great. 27:12 What the hell? 27:12 I watched that on my iPhone and I couldn't believe it. 27:16 How did Penn State win at Yost? 27:18 Yeah, I mean, they beat Michigan twice this year. 27:21 Yeah? 27:22 Well, yeah, I'll tell you this. 27:23 One thing that really jumps out about Michigan is they've got awful goaltending. 27:27 I mean, they have got Special Olympics goaltending. 27:30 I mean, it is a disaster. 27:34 I can't even pronounce his name, the guy they played against Penn State, because they had Racine for our series, correct? 27:38 Both games? 27:38 I believe so, yeah. 27:39 But then they played some guy with some Dutch-Swedish Noodlesford name or something. 27:44 I mean, I can't even pronounce it. 27:45 But he could barely stand up. 27:48 He could hold a stick. 27:49 I mean, I wanted to see him in a wheelchair at intermissions. 27:52 They have the worst goaltending I've seen from, you know, a potential top-10 team in years. 27:59 Well, they still got the offense, though, and that's why they're still a slight threat to Minnesota. 28:04 Well, I'll tell you what. 28:05 The Saturday night game at Mariucci, you're talking about the Gopher Michigan weekend? 28:10 The Saturday night game was the game that caught my attention because anybody who watched the first 20 minutes thought, boy, you reminded me of the first period of the game against Luthor where we got waxed. 28:21 We were hanging on, but we were just not competing. 28:28 They could have run us out of the building in the first 15 minutes. 28:30 Then we chipped one in at the end of the first period, get the lead early in the second, and all of a sudden we have a very professional dispensing of a team that looked like they were going to run us out of our building on a night where we looked flat and had a potential let down from the night before. 28:44 So that Saturday game is the game that really showed me something. 28:48 Hamme, any thoughts on Penn State and Michigan? 28:52 No, I mean, I think like I joked on Twitter, they must have some kind of Michigan Wolverine kryptonite. 28:57 I mean, I don't know. 28:58 I mean, it's interesting to me that the two wins that they have in the league are against, you know, Michigan. 29:04 I don't know if it's a matchup situation for them or exactly what it is, but it's kind of interesting because, you know, but at the same time Penn State has been pretty competitive against some good teams. 29:14 I mean, they played us, you know, pretty tough when we were out there. 29:17 They certainly played, I think BC only lost to them by a goal, or I mean, BC beat them by only a goal when they were in Penn State. 29:25 So, I mean, they played some good teams pretty tight. 29:27 So, it's, I guess, not entirely surprising that they might give Michigan a tough time. 29:32 You want to look at a pattern or a trend, though. 29:33 I mean, Michigan has some first periods where they look like they are going to steamroll teams. 29:37 And Friday night against Penn State, they jumped out to, what, two goals in the first five minutes? 29:41 I mean, when I'm watching that game and that happens, I'm going to Netflix. 29:46 I mean, I'm flipping to Netflix and finding something I can watch for the next couple of hours, because I'm thinking Michigan 6-1. 29:52 I mean, Penn State on the road, I mean, you know, it's just the most hostile building in the conference. 29:57 You could say that about it without a doubt. 30:00 And on Michigan, obviously more skilled than Penn State. 30:03 Two-nothing in the first five minutes. 30:05 Sounds like 6-1 to me. 30:06 It should have been over. 30:07 How they lose that game is head-scratching. 30:10 But again, at Mariucci on the road, different scenario, but they looked so good at the first 15 minutes Saturday night. 30:17 I thought something is going to have to really change for this ice to tilt the other way. 30:23 I was impressed at how easily it did, to be honest with you. 30:26 But I think Michigan must really fade. 30:28 They are known for these great first periods, and they are not having a great year. 30:31 So something goes wrong along the way. 30:33 But they are still capable of putting you away. 30:36 I think there is still a huge threat out there. 30:41 You just never know when it gets to a one-game scenario at the X later on this year. 30:45 It's easy to sit around and say there are two or three teams that you look at. 30:48 But then Yale comes out of nowhere, and they are the worst national champion I have ever seen in my life. 30:52 Damaged Michigan State from three years ago, are they two worst teams I have ever seen? 30:57 Well, to kind of piggyback on what Jeff was saying, Michigan has outscored opponents by 10 goals in the first period. 31:04 Second period is a minus three, and the third period is only a plus two. 31:07 So, he's got that dead on on that. 31:11 They are known for this fast start, but we just saw them at back to back games. 31:15 Saturday at Minnesota and Friday at home against Penn State. 31:18 They looked so good and lost both. 31:21 Well, we've got quite a few questions via Twitter. 31:23 Let me throw a couple at you guys. 31:25 Martin wants to know, has the softer schedule, the Big Ten versus WCHA, helped the Gophers in their prep for the NCAA? 31:34 They might be a higher seed, but will they be prepared, Jeff? 31:36 You know, with this conference schedule, it's not as good. 31:39 I think that the schedule has allowed them to look a little more complete than they are. 31:47 I mean, they're a very good team. 31:47 The record does speak for itself. 31:50 I mean, your record is what it is because it is what it is. 31:54 Nobody gave it to you. 31:56 When we had Gensel on at the Commons when Don was overseas, during the commercial break, I just leaned over, and Gensel is a straight shooter you're going to get. 32:07 I said, Mike, how concerned are you that when you get to the tournament, you're not going to be big enough? 32:11 And he goes, Jeff, scared to death. 32:14 I mean, that's probably off the record. 32:17 I mean, they're not very gritty. 32:19 I mean, they get some grit. 32:20 They work. 32:21 But they're not big and physical. 32:22 It wasn't for Ambrose. 32:23 They had very little net-firm presence in fashion. 32:26 They were the only guys who really provided the muscle out there. 32:31 And it's like the weekend in Wisconsin, to me, that's what could go wrong in the tournament. 32:37 I mean, when guys like Kloos and Camerata start getting erased. 32:40 I mean, they're young, they're small, they're extremely skilled. 32:44 But this team almost reminds me of a really good WUG team, where you got young, small, high school guys from Minnesota, and they just got kind of erased in the postseason. 32:54 I'm not saying that's going to happen, but this is not a team that I'm convinced walks through anything. 32:59 Hammy, thoughts on the possible softer league schedule? 33:04 Well, I mean, I think that's always a concern when you're playing. 33:07 I mean, we didn't obviously have to worry about that too much in the past with the WCHA. 33:11 But at the same time, I say to myself, I think down the stretch we're going to have some pretty competitive games. 33:17 I think that in the Big Ten tournament, we should likely face a couple of good teams. 33:23 We've had some good out of conference teams this year that we've played against. 33:27 I mean, the BCs and the Notre Dames and some of these teams that are, if not NCAA, they're on the cusp of that. 33:34 We played St. 33:35 Cloud and Duluth. 33:37 So I think that we've been challenged enough. 33:39 And if I remember correctly, I think we had either a top five. 33:43 Last time I looked, it was one of the top schedules as far as strength of schedule goes in the country, as far as that statistic goes. 33:50 So I'm not overly concerned about it as far as the size goes. 33:54 I mean, yeah, but that's not a physical team. 33:58 But then again, you know, you see a team like BC who's made a living off of that speed and transition game on the NCAAs. 34:05 And not that they've been small, but they're not exactly known as a big physical team either. 34:09 And they've given teams like North Dakota, FITS, during the NCAAs. 34:14 So I mean, we'll see what happens. 34:15 That comes under matchups, the kind of rink you get on, the kind of team you're playing against. 34:19 Josh Koop wants to know, which freshman has had the biggest impact so far this season? 34:24 Hammeh? 34:26 Ah, boy. 34:27 I mean, that's a tough one because there's been such good performances. 34:30 I kind of want to go with Hudson Fasching. 34:34 Even though Clues has been great, and Camerata has been pretty solid himself, Fasching, he's got the size, he's kind of completed that top line. 34:44 I think he's added that physical element. 34:46 He creates that kind of space in front of the net. 34:48 He scores a lot of those garbage goals that a lot of other guys on the team maybe aren't necessarily known for, maybe Ambrose and a few others. 34:55 But I would say out of all the guys, he's the one that's impressed me the most because the reality of the matter is coming into the year, his stock had dropped the last couple years because he just did not, he didn't perform as well offensively as a lot of people had hoped when he went to the US program and to see him kind of come back this year and kind of take the bull by the horns and do so well offensively, I think that to me has been the biggest surprise out of the freshman. 35:23 And you nailed it with him and Cluess. 35:24 I mean, Cluess is my personal favorite because he's got just an electric skill set. 35:29 I mean, his speed is, I mean, he used to be that, you know, a kid would come in, no matter how skilled he was, he would just kind of feel his way until the holidays. 35:38 And in the first period of the first game against Mercyhurst, Cluess just said, screw it, and turned the corner on Dee twice in one period. 35:44 And freshmen don't usually have that kind of presence to know, I am that much better. 35:47 I am that much faster. 35:49 And I don't have to wait until, you know, until after the World Juniors to show people. 35:52 I mean, so he's been different from the outset, but fashion has brought something that this team needed desperately. 35:58 That was a net front presence. 36:00 And when you talk about getting a guy up front who makes a difference, too often people just think size and physicality are all that matters. 36:05 But you've got to have hands. 36:07 And fashion has got playmaker's hands. 36:08 And he gets his stick on everything. 36:10 One thing I also like about fashion is that recently, I said in the last month, his puck handling skills have been improving. 36:18 I mean, he's holding on to the puck a lot longer. 36:23 Guys can't get the puck off his stick. 36:25 I mean, it's just he's controlling it similar to what... 36:29 Oh, boy. 36:31 Who did we lose last year? 36:32 I'm just blank. 36:33 Bukestad. 36:35 Bukestad used to be able to keep that puck on his stick for a long time and just kind of keep people off of him. 36:40 And with fashion, I'm starting to notice that type of dominance by him. 36:45 Fashion does it in a more physical fashion, too. 36:48 Bukestad was so angular that he was all elbows. 36:51 Like they say about a pitcher with a funky delivery, he's all elbows and assholes. 36:55 He had knees and elbows poking out in every direction. 36:58 He was shaped like a jumping jack, and nobody could get near him. 37:01 I mean, he had this field shield around him. 37:05 What I think the other thing with freshmen is they're obviously a lot of times they're worried about screwing up. 37:11 With a kid like that, he's probably thinking to himself, I just want to get rid of the puck. 37:15 I want to move the puck, get to my open teammates, so on and so forth. 37:18 Now that you've played almost two-thirds of a season or whatever, they're certainly going to be a lot more comfortable, so I'm sure that's part of it as well. 37:28 Question from Todd Johnson. 37:29 Is Brodsinski going to be back this weekend, Hammy? 37:33 I believe so, both him and, what was it, Saratori. 37:36 I think they were both aiming to have them back this weekend, so I would imagine that he's going to be back. 37:42 I think he is the, along with Void and the shot in the arm, he gave the power play. 37:47 I think Brodsinski has underrated a power play presence as there is on this roster, because he gets pucks to the net better than anybody. 37:54 Yeah. 37:55 Absolutely. 37:55 That's key. 37:58 He finds those openings with that roster. 38:00 He's got a heck of a shot. 38:01 I mean, he's just like his brother. 38:03 They're both good shooters. 38:05 I think that he had a lot of success last year in USHL offensively. 38:10 So I really believe that moving forward, he's going to be a big cog in the Gopher machine, especially on the power play in future years. 38:18 I mean, some guys just have a knack for finding the openings. 38:20 I mean, I like Ben Marshall's skills a lot, but he finds a lot of shin pads, and guys like Brzezinski find little openings. 38:28 Oh, I hate that. 38:30 Nothing works when they're shooting it in the forwards legs, and it's out of the zone. 38:35 It's a key skill? 38:36 It's a key skill. 38:37 I used to love Benelli, because he had that lateral movement along the blue line where he could just kind of dangle it and go side to side, and just kind of float until a guy slid by him. 38:46 I mean, he was so patient, but Brzezinski, he finds openings. 38:49 Todd, with another question, will Penn State be as boring to play as Wisconsin? 38:54 What do you think, Jeff? 38:56 Are they going to try to do the same thing of shut us down? 39:01 Well, it's too early for me to think. 39:02 I mean, I've seen them play like three games in their entire program history, so to sort of think I can map out the route of style that they can embrace. 39:10 I mean, when you are that talent deprived and that far behind a program like Minnesota, you can't skate with them. 39:19 You can't try to go Michigan and North Dakota against them. 39:21 That's why I love the Michigan and North Dakota series, because those are two of the Boston colleges. 39:25 They are like the only two or three teams in the country that will go at us and just play our style and try to beat us at our style. 39:32 If you can't, if Penn State tried it, then Guy Gadowski should be run out of town. 39:37 I mean, they should take down his statue and throw it next to Paterno's. 39:41 If you are listening to Ivy, you want to tweet us, just use the hashtag GPL Podcast, and we will try to read your question. 39:47 I see Christina Wurm wants to know the freshman with the most speed, and I think that's pretty much clues. 39:52 Yes, he flies. 39:55 I can't remember seeing a kid come into the league with that kind of speed. 39:58 I mean, it's just so ridiculously noticeable. 40:01 I mean, like I said, I've known his uncle Chuck since I was five years old. 40:06 We've had some real good heart to hearts on it. 40:09 He tells me that he's never seen so many defensemen take the angle they thought was the angle and miss. 40:16 I mean, from, you know, peewees on up, people think he's coming at a speed that he has surpassed in an unreasonable fashion. 40:25 And nobody ever gets an angle on him. 40:28 I have a question for either of you. 40:30 Do you think Condon is back? 40:33 He started pretty well and then was quiet for a while. 40:38 But I've been concerned about him all year. 40:40 You know, he hasn't been scoring like we hoped he would. 40:43 I think he did what he thought he had to do for the team. 40:46 I mean, he took the captain duty very seriously. 40:49 And they put him on a line with two kids that were going to play offense first and worry about defense when they had to. 40:54 And he was their center. 40:55 So, I mean, he basically babysat for two months and made sure that when these guys are gone, someone's going to be here. 41:03 I mean, I love the combination because they're the three fastest guys on the team. 41:06 I mean, they're just light. 41:08 And Condon is a fantastic responsible two-way forward. 41:11 And I don't think at that time they didn't have Klusen. 41:14 I believe Condon was still the center and then had that defensive responsibility. 41:18 And Klusen got off to such a blazing start because I think he knew he had that freedom because he had Brother Becker. 41:25 Yeah. 41:25 Hammeh, what are your thoughts? 41:28 Condon, I've been concerned about him all year. 41:30 We've talked about it. 41:32 Yeah. 41:32 I mean, admittedly, I thought he would have done a little bit more offensively this year than what he has. 41:37 But like Jeff touched on when you're playing with a couple of young guys, you kind of have to think a little bit more responsibly. 41:43 He's always been a very good defensive forward. 41:45 So, you know, I think it's kind of natural for him to, especially when those guys started off well, to kind of take that role. 41:52 And hopefully as, you know, kind of goes down the stretch, that leadership and that senior will step forward and he'll be a little bit more offensively present. 42:01 Going back to the Penn State question, as far as the style goes or whatever, like Jeff said, I think it's only a matter of time. 42:09 You know, for me, it's only a matter of time. 42:11 They have the facilities, they have a good fan base, they have the backing of their administration. 42:18 I mean, they're gonna recruit good players. 42:20 It's only a matter of time. 42:21 I mean, to me, they're the kind of program that's gonna scare some of these, you know, kind of middle to smaller schools that have been good over the last 10, 15 years because they're gonna have a lot to offer. 42:32 You know, they might not be taking recruits from the Gophers or Michigan or BC or whatever, but that next tier down, they're gonna be very competitive for those recruits, and those are the guys that are gonna be offensive leaders for them moving forward. 42:45 So I think it's gonna be, you know, not now they're not gonna play that open style, of course, because they don't have the talent, but I think eventually, I think they'll be much better. 42:52 Yeah, you know, what's gonna really help them, too, I think recruiting-wise, they are going to be able to challenge not the elite of the hockey east for recruits, but I mean, the Boston schools will get who they want, for the most part, but Penn State's gonna steal a lot of guys because they, thanks to the Big Ten Network, are gonna spend Friday nights on TV in New York City, Washington, DC., Baltimore, Maryland, all the way up to Minneapolis. 43:16 I mean, that is an expansive network with major markets and great exposure and Friday night primetime games, without exception, and that's a pretty good sell for a school like Penn State, you know, if you're considering them or New Hampshire. 43:30 And New Hampshire is a traditional power that is a much better program, but I think you can get to the point where you can start making arguments that Penn State has a little more to offer you in terms of exposure and that conference network. 43:44 Totally agree. 43:46 They do have a nice building. 43:48 Go Big Ten, we've got New York City. 43:51 Do we really now? 43:52 The Rutgers, I mean, New York City is a Big Ten network media market. 43:56 Yeah, well, we'll see, I guess. 44:00 I kind of like that little place they've built there. 44:04 We own the Eastern Seaboard. 44:05 Go Big Ten. 44:09 You know, the Big Ten network has gotten better with their broadcasts throughout this year. 44:13 They make money, they print money. 44:18 It's all about the money. 44:21 But, you know, they gave us a shout out a couple weeks ago, so we're pretty happy about it. 44:26 Well, and they do hockey double headers. 44:27 I mean, that's cool. 44:28 I mean, I know that we don't like to see our friends at Fox lose games because we get great coverage, but I mean, to the Big Ten network's credit, they put the Fox games on the BTN2Go app and the website, so you still get them, and you get the on-air double headers. 44:44 It really is good for the sport. 44:46 Definitely is. 44:48 I think your boyfriend just called me on Skype. 44:52 You hear that? 44:55 Hammy, can you hear us? 44:56 Hammy says he can't hear us for some reason. 44:59 I think I'm getting a call. 45:00 Nobody knows. 45:01 No, Hammy is typing into the little Skype window, and he's saying that he can't hear anything. 45:10 I'm receiving a message. 45:11 I made it from Hammy. 45:13 That is where you're receiving the message, Sean. 45:15 I see people out there on Skype. 45:18 We can hear him. 45:19 I'm telling you, there's some scary people out there on Skype. 45:24 I've seen some weird things. 45:26 Hold on a second. 45:26 I'm just going to type to him. 45:27 We can hear him. 45:29 I heard him. 45:31 That's strange. 45:32 For some reason, he cannot hear us. 45:34 Glad that you get to use Skype. 45:35 Be old school. 45:36 Well, no, the audio quality is much better. 45:37 Well, I'm glad that you guys can hear me, because I can't hear diddly stuff right now. 45:44 You can call me every name in the book, and I'll just say, yes, I'm here. 45:47 F you, Hammy. 45:50 I'm going to hang up on Hammy. 45:52 You don't have to say F you. 45:53 I said F you today, and Tom said, why would you just say F? 45:56 You could say... 45:57 But he said the real thing. 45:58 I'm going to reconnect with Hammy, see if we can get him back in here. 46:02 Because we need him to be able to hear us. 46:04 Can you hear us now, Hammy? 46:07 It just said call failed under his name. 46:08 I'm guessing that means no. 46:10 I mean, you really impressed me with the technical know-how and the wizardry that you're pulling off during the week with Skype this and Skype that. 46:17 It was just a house of cards. 46:18 You were a complete and utter fool. 46:20 Hey, we usually do pretty well. 46:22 And remember, I'm producing at the same time. 46:24 So it's not as easy as you think. 46:27 It's not as easy. 46:28 You know what? 46:29 Podcasting has already completely blown my mind in the last two weeks. 46:32 I thought I'd just go and do a radio show. 46:34 It's not even close. 46:36 You know, I'd be interested in coming down and seeing those studios when you do a show with them sometime. 46:40 I want to see what kind of set up they have. 46:41 Obviously, they've got a lot of professional equipment, but it sounds like some of the stuff they're doing is similar to what I'm doing, you know, and getting it out there and getting it live. 46:50 I'm just teasing. 46:52 It's a really nice set up because they're in, you know where the Acme Comedy Club is? 46:56 The Itasca building in the warehouse? 46:57 Yeah, I know where that is. 46:58 I think Hammy just was shot, by the way. 47:00 I think Hammy just rubbed off the face of the earth. 47:02 This picture just came down off Skype. 47:06 But yeah, they're in the Itasca building. 47:08 So they're in a really nice upscale, old warehouse building. 47:13 It's got this big glass bar with the marble countertops and everything. 47:18 I'd like to stand there and just 10 bar, be a big shot. 47:21 But everybody there, in recovery, me, Tom, Sean, and Dai, none of us drink. 47:26 So I just got to serve them up and pass them out. 47:29 Can you hear us now, Hammy? 47:30 Yeah, I can hear you. 47:32 It was something weird, so it was better just to hang up on you and start over. 47:36 It was strange, because I heard your type come up, and I'm like, well, we can hear you when I told you to say something. 47:41 Now Hammy sounds really disgruntled. 47:44 He's always like that. 47:46 You're not the same guy he was five minutes ago. 47:49 This could work to our advantage. 47:50 Well, the reason I like to use Skype is that the audio quality is just so much better than telephone. 47:55 It's just easier. 47:57 I'm just teasing. 47:58 Yeah, no, you're right. 47:59 It's much clearer. 48:00 I mean, you don't sound like you're calling on a phone. 48:03 No, I'm not. 48:04 I'm calling on a phone. 48:05 It doesn't sound the greatest, but you sound pretty decent, and that's one thing that I really want. 48:11 You have a podcast, and the audio has got to be at least decent, or else people aren't going to listen. 48:15 Look, decent is the best I can do with a Sennheiser mic. 48:18 It is what it is. 48:19 God gave me what he gave me. 48:20 I mean, I ain't James Earl Jones. 48:22 Let's not kid ourselves. 48:23 Yeah, but if you sound like shit, you know... 48:26 You just swore again. 48:27 Jesus. 48:27 You know what? 48:28 I'm going to make this podcast explicit anyway, so it's not a big deal. 48:31 When I did my first sit-in with Bernard last week, I let him fly. 48:36 I mean, the profanities. 48:37 And I felt terrible. 48:39 I felt like I'd sold my soul. 48:42 I mean, I got over it, but I mean, it really felt weird. 48:44 You know, at first, we haven't been an explicit podcast, and if something slipped, I edited it out. 48:48 But then I started thinking, you know, it's not like we're going to be dropping F-bombs all over the place, so why not change it to explicit in case something slips? 48:55 It's not a big deal. 48:57 Don't do it to do it. 48:59 Yeah, exactly. 49:00 If you ever panic about something, you shouldn't talk it either. 49:03 You're right. 49:04 You're right. 49:05 Well, Adam Abrams told me that. 49:06 I stole it from him. 49:07 You know, we did a live broadcast a couple years ago during the Alaska Anchorage Series. 49:12 You know, we were just sitting there talking about the game as it was on, had a ton of people listening, and I was getting piss drunk throughout the whole thing. 49:18 Exactly. 49:19 Oh, yeah, I was drinking. 49:20 I went through a nice bottle of gin throughout the whole thing. 49:23 Hammy, I think you were on with me, weren't you? 49:26 I think, yeah, I was briefly on for a little bit, yep. 49:28 How come you didn't even remember this? 49:29 Did one of you lose to the other? 49:31 I barely remember it. 49:32 But you know what? 49:33 You know, we're just commenting on the game as it's going on. 49:35 It's not like we're doing play-by-play, but we had a bunch of people on, like eight or ten of us, talking about the game. 49:41 We had a friend of mine known who was driving through Wisconsin who Skyped into us via her phone while she was driving. 49:52 You have a female friend? 49:55 You've met my wife. 49:56 Don't be that way. 49:59 You're all caught up in the Skype technology. 50:01 Your advanced relations with females has got me blown away. 50:05 No, she's just an old friend. 50:08 Hell, my wife might be listening right now just to hear her listen to you, I think. 50:11 I think she likes you. 50:12 I think a lot of women are in that. 50:16 I'm out there, hey, I'm single, I'm a free agent. 50:17 Oh, God, I just stubbed my toe. 50:19 I've never stubbed my toe during a show before. 50:21 This is completely your fault. 50:22 Oh, boy, my fault. 50:23 That never happened to me at a real radio show. 50:27 Oh, poor Jeff. 50:29 It does hurt. 50:30 Poor Jeff. 50:31 It's really worse than hitting your shin or stubbing your toe. 50:33 It's just, other than hitting the balls, it's the worst place. 50:35 Stepping on something sharp when you're walking to the bathroom at night. 50:38 That sucks. 50:39 Yeah, like a matchbox car. 50:42 Oh, don't get me started. 50:43 All right, back to Gopher Hockey. 50:45 Yeah. 50:46 Jeff, what do you think overall about the team this year? 50:49 I mean, are you positive about it? 50:51 You think they could go far in the tournament? 50:53 Let's hear what you think about it. 50:55 Well, they are, if they're not the best team in the country, they're one of the best two, you know, they're on their short list, on the list of two or three best teams. 51:03 They and Boston College are the cream of the crop. 51:06 But I mean, you know, Yale won the tournament last year. 51:09 I'm not going to get over that. 51:10 I mean, it's just, Yale was awful. 51:13 I mean, if you go back and look at the season they had, I mean, they were awful right up to the end. 51:17 They were like 17-10, and they beat us. 51:20 I mean, so who knows? 51:22 And we had, you know, for the first time in a long time, a goalie that had complete confidence in. 51:27 It wasn't on him either. 51:28 Oh, no, no. 51:29 But when you go in with arguably the top team in the country, you know, and you are on every role imaginable, and you got the confidence, and you got a goaltender, I mean, that team, to me, that loss to Yale was every bit of shocking, is the Holy Cross loss, because that team was falling apart. 51:46 I mean, that team was, I mean, the wheels were coming off that team, they lost 10-9 or 9-8 to St. 51:52 Cloud, for God's sake, the week before that. 51:54 I mean, they were falling apart. 51:56 And they didn't like each other. 51:57 I mean, Castle Potomac, they did not get along. 52:00 I mean, there was a lot of infighting, a lot of rivalries, and just a lot of bitterness on that team. 52:05 And I'm not going to say I saw that coming, but I could understand it in hindsight. 52:10 What happened last year against Yale still doesn't make sense to me. 52:13 Well, Yale got hot. 52:14 I mean, they, I mean, it wasn't just a Gopher game. 52:18 They took out North Dakota. 52:19 They made it all the way, I mean. 52:21 What did they do in the ECAC playoffs? 52:23 That's true, but... 52:24 I think we started it, to be honest with you. 52:26 Maybe we did. 52:28 But they're happy about it, I tell you that. 52:30 Well, I mean, but my point is, and I know it's a real roundabout. 52:33 Oh, it's fine. 52:34 You know, dodge the question, but I mean, if you're going to make the shortest of short lists, I mean, the Gophers are one of the top two teams in the country, bar none. 52:41 I mean, they're one or two, right? 52:43 But everybody's standard and they deserve to be. 52:45 But I mean, again, we're talking about single elimination format in a sport where too many things come down to a puck luck or a hot goalie or a fanned pass from behind your net. 52:56 You know, God bless Benny Marshall. 52:58 But I mean, things happen. 52:59 Randy Scarlet hits the inside of a post. 53:00 I mean, single elimination hockey is that's Team USA. 53:04 It's very unpredictable. 53:05 Yeah, don't get me started about that. 53:07 Well, and that's the thing we were talking about on GPL earlier, I think this week or last week. 53:12 They were talking about the prestige of winning the WCHA when we were in it as compared to national titles and whatever. 53:19 And I actually said that I think that winning the WCHA regular season title was more difficult of a task. 53:27 It was. 53:28 Because you have to do it week in, week out over several months than winning a national title. 53:32 Because national title, you could be the best team and you have a fluke shot here. 53:37 A goalie plays great against you. 53:39 It could be a million things that happen. 53:42 And I know the whole cliché. 53:44 I don't remember who said it was Brendan Morrison. 53:47 The best team doesn't always win the national or whatever it was. 53:50 There is an element of truth to that to some extent. 53:53 Maybe not every year, but a lot of years, it's not always the best team that wins. 53:57 So it's just a matter of goaltending and whatever. 53:59 Goaltending, matchups? 54:00 I'm not exaggerating. 54:02 When I say Michigan State and Yale, really ordinary hockey teams. 54:06 Those are teams that if you put them in the later years, the last 10 years of the WCHA, the power years, those are teams that would have trouble getting home ice. 54:13 I'm not exaggerating. 54:15 Those are very ordinary hockey teams. 54:18 This is not to take a shot at our neighbors to the Northwest, but in 1997, you mentioned Morrison, in 1997, nobody was on Michigan. 54:27 Nobody played the game Michigan played. 54:28 Michigan was playing a game that was foreign to the rest of college hockey. 54:32 And they get to the frozen floor and BU lays, I mean, they put their guts on the line and had this odd and nowhere unbelievable win against them to beat Michigan, and then they had nothing left for North Dakota. 54:46 I mean, they went to that North Dakota game with their tanks empty, and they didn't refill them during the game. 54:52 So it just comes down to matchups. 54:55 1997, Michigan is as good a college hockey team as I've ever seen. 54:59 And North Dakota, God bless them, won a national championship without having to play them, and they played a team that was butt-ass beaten down because they had to play them. 55:08 It just comes down to matchups, talk of the draw. 55:11 I mean, so many things happened in single elimination. 55:13 Well, I think the opposite happened to North Dakota just a few years ago when Duluth won it. 55:19 They came in as the powerful team, and Michigan took them out. 55:24 I've told the story before. 55:26 I was in the press box for that game when Michigan beat North Dakota, and I could not believe how many people in that press box were happy that Michigan won that game. 55:37 They were joyous that they beat North Dakota. 55:42 Yeah, well, college hockey is unique that way, where the media actually cares, in many cases. 55:49 Not at all. 55:49 You've got the Tim Hennesseys of the world. 55:51 I mean, there's not a lot of neutrality in guys like that. 55:56 Well, we have radio guys. 55:58 They're all biased, those radio play-by-play guys. 56:00 I haven't heard one for any team that's not biased. 56:03 Yeah, and you know, that's kind of a trend in all sports, because now all the teams control the broadcasts, but it's gotten to the point where it's not good for the sport to have so much cheerleading going on. 56:12 And I mean, I like Tim. 56:13 And we used to take the trips up to Grand Forks, because of Clear Channel, the long-haul trucking saloon, we did the shows. 56:19 And Tim, I really do like him. 56:23 But remember his infamous moment where he went into the barrier arena, opened the mic, and said, you could just feel the arrogance when you walk into this. 56:33 That is one of the most, you know, pot, kettle. 56:36 I mean, it was like, are you kidding me? 56:39 Teams, I think teams and their own fan bases and their own media groups to a certain extent lack some self-awareness. 56:45 And we do too, I'm sure. 56:46 Well, you know, we're going to miss the great WCHA Final Five this year, but I think a lot of that is going to be in the West Regional because you know what? 56:53 Yeah. 56:54 We could face a North Dakota right off the bat like we couldn't before or a Duluth or... 56:59 BigTen Tournaments could be a real buzzkill. 57:01 It will be a buzzkill, but I think that Regional has a chance to be something special. 57:05 I hope not. 57:06 I hope they give us four crappy schools from all of these teams. 57:10 Oh, you know they're going to put North Dakota there and you know they're going to want to put them in that first game. 57:16 But I mean, what happened to being by the numbers? 57:18 I mean, it was supposed to all be... 57:20 I kind of appreciated that. 57:22 The NCAA has any integrity. 57:26 I mean, really? 57:28 No, no. 57:29 I'm not going to defend the NCAA, but I did think for a long time that the pairwise was the purest form of picking a tournament field that you could possibly have. 57:38 Well, we can forget about Duluth now, too, the way that they're going. 57:41 Yeah, they've kind of fallen off. 57:42 Yeah, that's a shame, because they were really looking good there for a while. 57:45 When we saw them go into that North Star Cup Final, they were starting to peak pretty nicely. 57:49 We could have both North Dakota and St. 57:51 Cloud in that West Region also. 57:53 Yeah, that would be ridiculous. 57:54 If they loaded up that badly, that would be ridiculous. 57:57 It could be, but... 57:57 You have to be on the top overall seed. 57:59 You deserve a little bit of a break. 58:00 Well, we hope it happens, but you just never know with the NCAA. 58:04 You just never know, so what can you do? 58:08 What can you do? 58:09 All right, guys, we have rambled on long enough for this podcast. 58:13 Jeez! 58:13 I just drank a cranberry juice for God's sake. 58:15 Hurry up! 58:18 Jeff, will you come back on with us again sometime? 58:21 Anytime. 58:21 I can't believe you didn't want me to, but yeah, anytime. 58:23 Well, I tried before, but at first you didn't have a computer, you didn't have all this technology. 58:27 I was pretty depressed for about a month. 58:29 Well, no, I mean, that was a while back. 58:31 You didn't have the tech. 58:32 And then I asked you a while back, it was right after you lost your job, and I'm like, yeah, I'll just ask anyway. 58:37 Well, it stopped, just like a month ago? 58:38 Yeah. 58:39 Yeah, I mean, my girlfriend and I broke up like three days before I lost my job, too. 58:42 So it was a rough stretch. 58:44 It was not a good month for me. 58:46 Ouch. 58:46 Yeah, yeah, the 46th birthday, January 19th, was not a festive occasion. 58:55 I'm always going to love that. 58:58 Well, we appreciate you coming on. 59:00 Remember, you can follow Jeff Dubay on Twitter, at JeffDubay. 59:03 He's starting a podcast next week on the Tom Bernard kind of podcast network. 59:10 Oh, jeez, here we go. 59:11 You'll have to wear your pants next week when you're in the studio, too. 59:15 But you're also going to be, you'll have your podcast. 59:16 It will eventually be on, what, I'm guessing iTunes and what? 59:19 jeffdubay.com? 59:20 We're going to use Spreaker, we're going to use iTunes, but the simplest, I don't have it to tweet them all out, but I mean, if you want like a one-stop, you know, catch all the place to get them, just jeffdubay.com. 59:31 Okay. 59:31 And obviously on iTunes as well, just like GPL, you can find us everywhere. 59:36 Hammy? 59:38 Yes, sir? 59:39 This was an entertaining week. 59:41 Yeah, absolutely. 59:43 I take it you're going to pick the Gophers to sweep this weekend? 59:47 Well, if they don't, they don't deserve to win the Big Ten. 59:49 So I mean, yeah, I mean, they should take care of business. 59:52 We definitely need them to take that seven-point lead again. 59:56 So hopefully they'll take care of business. 59:58 Vegoe said sweep too, so Puffy, you think it's sweep as well? 1:00:02 Yeah, if Guy Gadowski thinks LeVar Errington is in there, then Kurt Warner and, help me out, give me one more Penn State football player. 1:00:09 If he thinks that, Calvin Booth, if he thinks that comes from... 1:00:11 T'Jonna Carter. 1:00:14 T'Jonna Carter. 1:00:15 Well, did you guys see on Twitter today the picture I put out? 1:00:19 Did you see the picture of Pride on Ice with Penn State shirt? 1:00:21 Yeah, we all started to wait for your tweet though. 1:00:24 What's that? 1:00:25 They're selling a Pride on Ice t-shirt at Penn State for hockey. 1:00:30 I shit you not. 1:00:31 Is it what?
